- Was the longtime girlfriend of MGM studio chief Louis B.Mayer.
- According to Charles Higham's biography of Louis B. Mayer: ""Mayer had noticed her when she appeared as a guest in a party scene in San Francisco [1936]....He fell in love with her; for years, she was the love of his life. She shared with him a passion for operettas and Viennese waltzes; she was an accomplished pianist, which, of course, appealed to him.".
- Despite her considerable beauty and gracious bearing, she was never able to command leading roles during her career at MGM. Instead, she was cast (often on loan to other studios) as lowly-billed nurses, maids or secretaries. Her solitary role of note was as Queen Azura, evil minion of Ming the Merciless, in Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938).
