It was once commonly reported in error that Rose had written an
entirely new set of songs for the 1929 part-talkie film version of
Show Boat (1929), but he actually wrote only one song, "Here Comes the Show
Boat," and for that one he wrote only the lyrics. Rose was never
involved with any other film version of "Show Boat," but he did have an
influence on the 1946 Broadway stage revival, for which he convinced
orchestrator
Robert Russell Bennett to arrange a new overture.
