Hot on the heels of the success of Yellowjackets Season 1, the Showtime network announced plans for Seasons 2 and Season 3.

Last year’s breakout hit “Yellowjackets” swarmed awards season with seven Emmy nominations including Best Drama Series in 2022. The Showtime drama is looking to outperform those numbers this year by submitting 18 actors for consideration from its Season 2 cast. The Emmy ballots were officially unveiled on the Television Academy’s website on June 15, the same day nominations-round voting began (it will conclude on June 26 at 10:00 p.m.).
Most notable is Melanie Lynskey, who earned a Best Actress bid for playing Shauna Sadecki last year and currently ranks second in our odds to win the prize this time around. Cast mates joining her in the Best Drama Actress field are Tawny Cypress (Taissa Turner), Juliette Lewis (Natalie Scatorccio) and the teen version of Shauna, Sophie Nélisse.
See Liz Garbus (‘Yellowjackets’ director) on ‘tremendous challenge’ of filming Shauna’s childbirth in ‘Qui’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Christina Ricci looks to repeat her nomination from last year as well.

The season may have ended, but “Yellowjackets” isn’t done with winter. After devising their own methods for ritual sacrifice and eating their own to survive, the stranded teens just lost their home and are in for many more grueling months in the wilderness — to say nothing of the inner turmoil they’ll carry as adults. The adult Yellowjackets may have just escaped criminal charges, but they’re not out of the woods either, and down a Natalie (Juliette Lewis) moving forward.
Buckle in, “Yellowjackets” fans, because it’s going to be a while before these characters return. Until then, here are 10 burning questions after the “Yellowjackets” Season 2 finale that we hope to see answered in Season 3.
1. Who and what is the Antler Queen?
Looking back, the main reason anyone believed that Lottie (Courtney Eaton) was the Antler Queen was because the “Yellowjackets” audience expected Season 1 to answer that question.

This is it. The season finale of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Storytelling,” closes the loop on this chapter and overarching plot threads with fiery devastation. Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, The Invitation) returns to direct for the first time since the premiere, bringing some of the show’s themes full circle. While “Storytelling” may not bring the intense thrills of the last episode’s wilderness hunt, the events of this finale instead wreak havoc emotionally and ensure nothing will be the same going forward.
Picking up from the last episode, Travis (Kevin Alves) is immediately relieved to see Nat (Sophie Thatcher) arrive safely back at the cabin. His relief is short-lived when he sees Nat’s tearful, guilt-stricken face before the rest of the teens carry in his baby brother’s frozen body. While the group attempts to handle this new sacrifice and glean its spiritual meaning, their present-day counterparts attempt to...

The Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets” left us with dropped jaws — and a lot of questions. We still don’t know who “pit girl” is, but we did see how things escalate to the point where the survivors began hunting each other to stay alive.
Although, as creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson told TheWrap before the Season 2 premiere, not every question will be answered. Said Nickerson, when asked if he minded the comparisons to the often frustrating “Lost”: “I don’t always want everything to be answered. Like, I do and I don’t, because so much of what made ‘Lost’ so engrossing was the mystery, not just the mystery of what happened, but the sort of reclamation of the spookiness of being alive. You can’t give all the answers and maintain that spookiness.”
With that in mind, here are some of the most pressing issues that still need to be answered.

The following contains major spoilers for Season 2 of Yellowjackets.
We’ve all got that friend. The one who tries a little too hard, smiles just a little too wide, and jumps at the chance to help you with the tiniest problem, sometimes even before you know you have it. The Misty Quigleys of the world are painstakingly pleasant and prepared. They spend their lives desperately trying to make themselves essential in order to earn the validation they can’t seem to give themselves. Misty doesn’t have any friends when the team’s plane goes down in the Canadian wilderness, but the Yellowjackets equipment manager quickly proves to be one of the most resourceful survivors. Unfortunately her level head and wealth of random survival tips hides a pattern of going to psychotic lengths for approval.

Initially intended as a recurring character, Krueger’s outstanding portrayal of the character as Marcel’s henchman and Klaus’ spy earned him a promotion to series regular for Season 5. Krueger continued to impress audiences with his acting skills and landed his first starring role in the Showtime survival series, Yellowjackets, playing the role of Ben Scott, a high school soccer coach who becomes one of the survivors...

Episode seven of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Burial,” offers a temporary calm after episode six’s tempestuous storm. As the season faces its final few episodes, “Burial” dials back the turbulent intensity just enough to develop individual character arcs further as the Yellowjackets finally reunite. Episode seven explores the fallout of “Qui,” forcing its characters to confront truths, grapple with their inner turmoil and traumas, and steel themselves for another raging storm.

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
Few characters on "Yellowjackets" have suffered more than Coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger). He lost his right leg in the plane crash, leaving him dependent on the teenage girls he used to coach at soccer. He also confessed to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) back in season 1 that he could've avoided the flight. His boyfriend Paul (François Arnaud) wanted Ben to move to the city with him. However, it's 1996, so Ben is still in the closet, especially since he's a high school instructor. If Ben had the courage to start a new life, he wouldn't be stuck in hell right now — and he knows it.
In season 2's second episode, "Edible Complex," the teenage survivors devoured the roasted body of Jackie (Ella Purnell). Ben was the only abstainer; he couldn't even look at the cannibalism unfolding. Since then, he's started disassociating. Since episode 3, "Digestif," he's been having daydreams...

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
The dual timelines of "Yellowjackets," set 25 years apart, show both how a high school girls' soccer team was stranded in the Canadian Wilderness and how they cope with that experience as adults. This structure means we already know the main cast's fate, at least to a point. In season 1, the presence of Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, and Travis in the 2021 timeline confirmed they got out of the wilderness alive. Two supporting characters in the 1996 timeline, Laura Lee and Jackie, didn't show up in the present. Sure enough, it's because they're dead.
However, season 1 ended with the reveal that Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton) was still alive, though she was never even mentioned in the 2021 timeline. Come season 2, she's now a regular in both timelines (played by Simone Kessell as an adult). The bigger surprise in season 2 is that Vanessa "Van" Palmer (Liv Hewson) survived too. She got...

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2 episode 5.
There's something not quite right about Misty Quigley (Samantha Hanratty/Christina Ricci). She's a stereotypical nerd; book smart but socially ostracized with no clue how to relate to others. As the Yellowjackets' equipment manager, she is only technically part of the champion soccer team, but that still means she's on the plane to nationals when it goes down over the Canadian wilderness.
As we learn more about Misty, it becomes apparent that her unpopularity isn't just because she's awkward. Something is very wrong with Misty Quigley, as she relishes "nurturing" the incapacitated coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger), with one attempt to do so ending with her accidentally poisoning all the other survivors with psychedelic mushrooms. In the present, she's an elder-care nurse and has been shown denying her patients treatment if they displease her. I've compared her to Annie Wilkes from "Misery" before and like her,...

"Yellowjackets," named for the girls' soccer team that get stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash, follows its characters in both adolescence and adulthood with alternating timelines. This enables the show to contrast how they've changed (or haven't). When we meet the original four leads in the series pilot, they mostly seem to have moved on from what happened.
Taissa (Tawny Cypress) is the only one who is "successful" in a stereotypical sense — a well-to-do lawyer now running for New Jersey State Senate. But Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) is a bored housewife and Misty (Christina Ricci) has a stable job as an elder care nurse; there are definitely worse fates considering what they went through. The only exception is Natalie Scatorccio. Played in conjunction by Sophie Thatcher in 1996 and Juliette Lewis in 2021, we first meet her in rehab and it's soon revealed this...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 up through Episode 3, “Digestif.”]
Every character is going through it in “Yellowjackets’ Season 2, whether they’re hallucinating, sleepwalking, or consuming human flesh. But in Episode 3, which deals with the aftermath of the marooned high schoolers consuming a classmate’s corpse, one character in particular seems damaged beyond repair: Coach Ben Scott (Steven Kreuger).
Ever since the plane crash — in which he lost his leg — Ben Scott became the group’s de facto authority figure as the only surviving adult. But after months without rescue and with team captain Jackie (Ella Purnell) now digesting in everyone’s bellies — everyone, that is, except Ben himself — comes a seismic yet subtle shift in the survivors’ dynamic, one in which the person who was presumably in charge, however tenuously, no longer has any interest in the role. Ben’s responsible adult exterior is cracking, and it’s only a matter of time before it breaks.

“I think shit is going to get a lot worse out here.”
Nat (Sophie Thatcher) says this aloud to what remains of Jackie’s body the day after the starving survivors of the plane crash descend upon her charred corpse. She’s not wrong; all signs point to mounting tension and catastrophe for the group. Episode three of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Digestif,” grapples with the psychological fallout of their cannibalism as it’s compounded by peculiar events that suggest the land’s power grows in supernatural strength.
Unreliable reality pervades this episode for many of its central players. At the forefront of this theme is Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown), who struggles the most with the feast upon Jackie’s barbecued body. She has no memory of the act, and her visceral repulsion at the idea of partaking in cannibalism concerns Van (Liv Hewson). The teens decide to rally with a distraction...

[This story contains spoilers from the third episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Digestif.”]
Yellowjackets returned after the show’s most shocking episode yet to show the young survivors’ collective hangover after their cannibalistic feast.
The third episode of the hit Showtime survival series, titled “Digesti,” opens with a reminder for both viewers and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) about what they did. “You really don’t remember? Tai, you ate her face,” says Van (Liv Hewson) to her girlfriend, who has dissociative sleepwalking episodes and is unable to remember what happens when “other Tai” takes over. Taissa then gets violently ill.
As the cast shared in an oral history with The Hollywood Reporter, the starving characters in the show’s 1996 wilderness timeline savagely feasted on the body of their dead teammate Jackie (played by Ella Purnell), after a hallucinatory sex scene involving Lottie (Courtney Eaton). The feast played out in both reality and in a bacchanal dream sequence.

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
The flashback storyline in "Yellowjackets" follows teenage girls from 1996 suburban New Jersey who are part of their high school's "Yellowjacket" soccer team. While flying to Seattle for a National championship match, they crash land in the woods of northern Canada. From the beginning, we've known where this is heading; the survivors will eventually turn to cannibalism, not just to stave off starvation but as part of ritualistic practice.
Flashbacks in the pilot showed a girl being caught in a trap and killed by the Yellowjackets — thanks to some concealing camera angles and the cultists' heavy fur coats, we don't know their identities yet, preserving some mystery. Episode 2 of the second season, "Edible Complex," revealed the girls' first indulgence with human flesh while tying up a loose end from season 1.

Season 2 of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of the new season Here) is scheduled to begin airing on Showtime on March 26th, but fans can also catch the first episode of season 2 streaming and On Demand as of today. As we head into the second season, Showtime has unveiled two cool pieces of marketing that’s very fitting for a show that partially takes place in 1996: a ’90s-style MTV News video (complete with Kurt Loder!) that covers the news of the disappearance of the titular Yellowjackets, and directs viewers to a ’90s-style website, WhereAretheYellowjackets.com. If you were watching MTV or surfing the web back in the ’90s, these marketing materials will definitely press your nostalgia buttons. The MTV News video can be seen at the bottom of this article.

A lot happened in “Yellowjackets” Season 1, so here’s a brief overview if you need a refresher before Season 2, which debuts on Showtime streaming on Friday, March 24.
The story takes place in two timelines: 1996, in which a private plane carrying a high school girls’ soccer team crashes in the wilderness, and 25 years later as a handful of adult survivors are forced to deal with their troubled past.
Massive spoilers for Season 1 follow:
The Flashbacks
In flashbacks that take place after the events of Season 1 and before they are rescued 19 months after the crash, we see the teenagers wearing masks and making sacrifices to their veiled leader, who is wearing a crown of antlers. We see them chase an unknown girl through the snow to a pit full of stakes: The dead girl is then roasted on a spit and they feed on her. The only character we can identify with...

The new trailer starts with an introduction by the cast and features Florence + The Machine’s new cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.” It also includes screaming, chanting, and Shauna reluctantly admitting she is a murderer.
“I’m such a huge fan of Yellowjackets and this era of music, and this song especially had a huge impact on me growing up, so I was thrilled to be asked to interpret it in a ‘deeply unsettling’ way for the show,” stated Florence Welch about “Just A Girl” and Yellowjackets. “We tried to really add some horror elements to this iconic song to fit the tone of the show. And as someone who’s first musical love was pop punk and Gwen Stefani it was a dream job.”

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from the entire first season of “Yellowjackets,” and also includes content some readers may find disturbing.
Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” the newest addition to the television canon of sublime psychological thrillers, is beyond definition. It seamlessly transitions from a coming-of-age story about a high-school girls’ soccer team to a bloody tale of survival after their plane crashes in the Ongtario wilderness, then makes a full 180 to horror, with a healthy sprinkling of buddy comedy and political drama in the mix. The series deftly navigates these twists and turns, largely thanks to the subtle and striking visual effects that range from aircraft explosions to Van (Liv Hewson) getting her face torn off by a wolf.
To the untrained eye, the visual effects on “Yellowjackets” may seem inconsequential, since it doesn’t over-stuff its viewers with horrifying gore like a show such as “The Walking Dead,” and...

Michael Pack, the new chief executive of the agency that oversees Voice Of America and other government-funded broadcast outlets, said Wednesday that he is implementing new policies to ensure that editorials that reflect the views of Donald Trump’s administration are given greater prominence and placement.
The move comes amid concerns that Pack will try to transform Voa and other outlets in ways that threaten their independence. Much of the wariness comes from Trump’s scathing criticisms of Voa and recent public push for the Senate to confirm Pack. His nomination languished for two years before he was confirmed earlier this month.
In his announcement, Pack, the CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, said that the editorials, produced through the agency’s Office of Policy, will remain distinct from Voa’s news and featuring programming, and that the editorials are part of the mission of the broadcast...
