Just ask Judy Norton, who played Mary Ellen Walton. The actor is used to being approached in public by people who recognize her from TV. CBS’s hit series The Waltons told the story of a tight-knit family making do during the Great Depression. But what have Learned, Thomas, and the rest of cast been up to since the show ended? Keep reading for an update on the surviving Waltons cast members and what they doing now.

However, many of the child actors on the show have spoken out in recent years to let the world know that they were not adequately compensated for their work on the show, leading many of them to have a lower net worth than other child actors of the era and find work outside of Hollywood since the end of the series.

In a competition that’s been brewing since the 1970s, the original casts of the TV family classics The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie will come face-to-face (if remotely) in a special Game Night contest on Stars In The House.
The games – typically a combination of trivia and charades – are set for Sept. 21 and will feature Little House cast members Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls Wilder), Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson), Matthew Laborteaux (Albert Quinn Ingalls), and Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls) squaring off against Waltons alum Judy Norton (Mary Ellen Walton), Kami Cotler (Elizabeth Walton), Eric Scott (Ben Walton) and Leslie Winston (Cindy Brunson Walton).
As always with Stars In The House, the proceedings will raise money for The Actors Fund, and will stream on YouTube and at starsinthehouse.com. Viewers will be able to submit questions for both casts (and make donations) during the live event.

Here’s something rather interesting. It’s stunning that the release of this film isn’t a bigger deal. Steven Soderbergh has made a new movie, written by the co-writer of Moonlight. If that wasn’t enough, throw in that he’s tackling the sports genre, while also beginning a partnership with Netflix. Essentially, there’s a new Soderbergh flick available at this moment to the masses. That would be noteworthy on its own, but as an added bonus, the film is absolutely fantastic. You literally have no excuse not to be watching this right now. Stop what you’re doing and pour its greatness right into your eyeballs. The movie is a sports drama, though not in the traditional way. Take one part Ballers, one part The Girlfriend Experience, one part Jerry Maguire, mix it all into something totally unique, and you have a starting point. Set during an...

A man suffering a midlife crisis joins a synchronised swimming team in a feelgood film based on a real-life event
Eric Scott (Rob Brydon) is the “apex variable”, or “the point around which everything pivots”. Or at least his midlife crisis is, causing him to question his marriage to newly elected Lib Dem councillor Heather (Jane Horrocks) and consider packing in his job as an accountant. After getting tanked on gin and tonics, he joins a synchronised swimming club of troubled men who collectively resemble, as one character puts it, “the wheat-intolerant Village People”. Swim club is, according to its members, “a protest against the end of dreams” and “who we’ve become”, making them sound like a faction of Fathers 4 Justice.
Based on the true story of a group of Swedish men who competed in the synchronised swimming world championship, Swimming With Me is reminiscent of The Full Monty,...

Updated with road re-openings and Lafd drone footage: The Los Angeles Fire Department has canceled its mandatory evacuations and reopened the previously closed section of Mulholland Drive between Beverly Glen and Deep Canyon to all traffic, one lane available each direction. The department also posted drone footage of the fire using infrared aerial imagery; watchi it above.

Fans of the 1970s television drama The Waltons were saddened to learn of the passing of Ralph Waite on Thursday at age 85. For nine seasons the actor played John Walton, Sr., a father of seven struggling to make ends meet during the Great Depression and World War II.
"[Fans] tell me that I was their surrogate father, the one who brought them up," Waite told Entertainment Weekly last year.
Indeed, Waite's honest portrayal struck a chord with audiences around the world, and left a big impression on actor Richard Thomas, who played eldest son John-Boy on the series.
"I loved Ralph very much.

Actor best known for playing John Walton Sr in the Us television family drama The Waltons
Ralph Waite, who has died aged 85, worked as a social worker, Presbyterian minister, publicist and book editor before turning to acting and landing the part as patriarch of a struggling American family in the wholesome Us television drama The Waltons (1972-81).
For nine series and more than 200 episodes from 1972 to 1981, as John Walton Sr – "Pa" – he was the quiet tower of strength bringing up a family of seven during the depression and second world war with his wife, Olivia (Michael Learned).
The barefoot Virginia hillfolk operated a sawmill on Walton's Mountain, in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. Their trials and tribulations, based on Earl Hamner Jr's autobiographical novel Spencer's Mountain, were seen through the eyes of the eldest son, John-Boy (played by Richard Thomas for most of the run, then Robert Wightman), a...

If you're a child of the '70s, you'll remember "The Waltons" as the sometimes corny TV series that coined the phrase "Good night, John Boy." It was, of course, a reference to the show's folksy ending each week -- the camera would pan away from a farm house as lights went out and the titular Waltons would all say good night to each other in turn.
On Friday (Dec. 2), several "Waltons" cast members -- including Kami Cotler (Elizabeth), Jon Walmsley (Jason), David Harper (Jim Bob), Eric Scott (Ben), Michael Learned (Olivia, aka "Ma"), Richard Thomas (John Boy), Judy Norton (Mary Ellen) and Mary Elizabeth McDonough (Erin) -- reunited on "Today" to talk to Matt Lauer about the show's 40th anniversary.

Our national obsession with oversized TV families isn’t a recent reality-show phenomenon. Forty years ago, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, and The Waltons were each prime-time hits, and eight members of the cast from the latter visited with Matt Lauer this morning on Today. For youngins who scrunched their nose when Today ran video clips of the show, which ran for nine seasons beginning in 1971, The Waltons was an extremely earnest drama about a western Virginian family struggling through the Great Depression and World War II. Is it dated? “It was dated when we did it!” interjected one of the cast,...

If you’re like I was a week ago, you’re not at all familiar with the television show The Waltons. To give you some perspective on the show, George H.W. Bush once famously said, "we are going to keep on trying to strengthen the American family, to make American families a lot more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons," which should give you a pretty good idea of the show’s target audience. In the 1970s and early 1980s it ran for nine seasons, of which this is the last.
The show follows the trials and tribulations of a rural family living outside Charlottesville, Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. They are led by patriarch John Walton, Sr, (Ralph Waite), who raises the children with a sage and steady hand (there was a mother, Olivia Walton, played by Michael Learned, but she...

For nine seasons on CBS, The Waltons was a part of a weekly tradition for television viewers. It was a staple of Thursday nights for so long that many were a little lost when it finally went off the air in 1981.
Based on Spencer's Mountain by Earl Hamner Jr. and a 1963 Henry Fonda movie of the same name, The Waltons revolves around a large family living in rural Virginia. The family, living on Walton's Mountain, is played by Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, Will Geer, Ellen Corby, Richard Thomas, Jon Walmsley, Mary Beth McDonough, Eric Scott, Judy Norton-Taylor, David W.
