David M. Shoup was born on December 30, 1904 in Battle Ground, Indiana, USA. He was an actor, known for Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and The Twentieth Century (1957). He was married to Zola DeHaven. He died on January 13, 1983 in Alexandria, Virginia, USA.
Commandant of the United States Marine Corps from 1960-1963. Of four
Medal of Honor recipients from the battle of Tarawa, Shoup was the only
one to survive. Also received the Purple Heart for a leg wound from an
exploding shell at Tarawa.
