Consider West German cinema and the familiar crop of names will rear its head: Fassbinder, Wenders, Herzog, Schlondorff… and, barring expertise, it’s here that the gas starts running low. To our fortune, New York’s Quad Cinema (working with programmers Dominik Graf and Olaf Möller) are about to commence the delightfully named” Fighting Mad: German Genre Films from the Margins,” which seeks exposure for an entire swath of, to quote Graf, “masters of the expressive, the outrageous, the subversive – they show how it looks and feels when the proverbial Teutonic order collapses and things go ballistic.”
If you aren’t in New York City, allow their program list to be your signpost and their trailer–which the Quad have kindly offered us as an exclusive–a peek at what awaits. Taking in its swirl of antiquated fashion, gunshots, blood smears, and screaming (so much screaming) will have you, at the very least,...

Director Robert Sigl, director of the Fango Video release School’S Out and the upcoming The Spider, sent along some exclusive pics and news on Hepzibah, a horror film he’s currently directing for German network ProSieben. The setting is “an ordinary town called Selmen which has become the bizarre scene of a most terrifying trend,” Sigl tells Fango.
“Seemingly happy girls are killing themselves on their 18th birthday,” he continues. “The video diaries of the dead girls lead our heroine Kirsten toward a dark secret hidden in the ruins of a medieval village recently rebuilt and reopened as a museum. An ancient curse has again surfaced, along with a ghostly figure seeking vengeance. Only three days remain for Kirsten to unravel the mystery before she herself turns 18, or she will become the next victim.”
Although made for German television, the film is being shot in English with leads Eleanor Tomlinson...

It was reported a few months ago that Robert Sigl would be doing his first feature in 10 years having done a bit of tv (including the scifi show Lexx) and we've got a few more details on what sounds like a Caligula-style horror from the director himself. First off, Malcolm McDowell will be playing one of the principal roles in the film, with John Hubbard doing the casting. Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Ian Wingrove has signed on, and 3 time Oscar winning composer Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings, Silence of the Lambs) will be composing the soundtrack having been attracted by the quality of the script and the overall concept. A new pre-production start date will be announced soon which is estimated to be sometime this July. They're going for an Autumn shoot in Istanbul.
