- Former bass player for alt rock band Alice In Chains.
- He was reportedly the last person to see his former Alice in Chains bandmate Layne Staley alive. During his appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) in 2010, Starr revealed that he spent time with Layne the day before he died and admitted to feeling guilty about not calling 911 after Staley had warned him against it. Starr stated that Staley called after him as he left: "Not like this, don't leave like this". Starr apologized to Staley's mother on the show for not calling 911 to help her son.
- Original bassist for Alice in Chains. Starr left the band shortly after the Hollywood Rock concert in Rio de Janeiro on January 22, 1993, stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Mrs. Staley always maintained that Mike wasn't to blame for her son's demise saying that her son was embarrassed to call 9-1-1 because he had thrown his life and his money away on drugs.

- Mike and the other members of Alice In Chains said the reason he left the band was to be with his family. Years later it was known to be that Mile was selling backstage passes that was given out free to patrons to support his addiction.
