The lead-up to Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" has proven the robots and Columbia Records to be masters of hype. There were rumors upon rumors, most of which turned out to be true in some weird and twisted way (case in point: Daft Punk was at Coachella, but just to walk around in their civvies and watch the crowd react to a trailer for "Get Lucky").
But building up expectations often comes with plenty of risks. When the album arrives in stores on May 17, it will easily be the most-hyped record of the year. UTA has tapped longtime TV lit agent Jay Sures to join its five-member board of directors. The move will give Sures expanded overall management responsibilities at the agency, though he will continue running UTA's television department with Sue Naegle. The other UTA board members are Peter Benedek, Jim Berkus, Gary Cosay, Nick Stevens and Jeremy Zimmer. "From the day UTA opened its doors 12 years ago, Jay has demonstrated relentless advocacy and passion for both his clients and the agency," the board said in a joint statement. "It's the dream of this company that agents can begin in the training program and work their way to the highest ranks of the agency." In addition to such established hits as "The Sopranos", "Law & Order" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", UTA packaged the new fall series "Joan of Arcadia" and "Las Vegas".
