Amazon Prime Video has renewed “Outer Range” for a second season. Charles Murray, who is under an overall deal at Amazon Studios, is joining the series as showrunner after Season 1 was showrun by creator Brian Watkins. Watkins will continue executive producing.

When “This Is Us” premiered in September 2016, “Parenthood” had been off the air for a little more than a year. Many dubbed Dan Fogelman’s new NBC family drama the heir apparent to Jason Katims’ critical darling, which was itself a successor to his NBC family drama “Friday Night Lights.” Some even mistakenly complimented Katims for his work on “This Is Us,” assuming it was his next big-hearted tearjerker. Of course, “This Is Us” wasn’t Katims’ project, but that wasn’t the only key difference between the two shows: “This Is Us” quickly became a ratings juggernaut, whereas “Parenthood” was never NBC’s top draw, and the large ensemble cast eventually took pay cuts in order to ensure a sixth and final season could happen.
So, a little lingering irritation is understandable, even in jest — like the quippy remarks made at “Parenthood’s” reunion panel Friday night, as part of the 2022 Atx TV Festival.

Part of the cast of Parenthood reunited with series creator Jason Katims and executive producer Lawrence Trilling on Friday night at the Atx Festival in Austin.
And while excited audience members relished hearing Dax Shephard, Erika Christensen, Joy Bryant, and Monica Potter share memories, Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, and Mae Whitman were certainly missed.
Among the highlights was insight from Katims as to how the 1989 film of the same from Ron Howard and the series Friday Night Lights played a role in Parenthood‘s inception.
“I was very much inspired by Friday Night Lights in thinking about what the show could be,” Katims, who executive produced the sports drama, shared. “One thing I was enjoying about Friday Night Lights was the big ensemble cast—many, many people with different points of view. So I thought, ‘What if I did a show like that focusing on family and extended family?...

When the cast and showrunners of “Yellowjackets” took the stage at IndieWire’s Consider This FYC Brunch, everyone in the room wanted to learn the secret sauce behind the Showtime blockbuster. But the team made sure to emphasize that there was no single thing that set the show apart. Instead, the show succeeds because of how it delicately balances multiple aspects of the series that seemingly contradict each other. (Full videos of all five panels will be published next week.)
“Tonally, I think we were all wondering if the filaments would come to the magnet,” said executive producer and co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco while speaking on a panel moderated by IndieWire editor-in-chief Dana Harris-Bridson. “Because there’s a lot of different tonalities in here, which we thread together into this single impact on our audience.”

Remote production went to a whole new level during the pandemic, and “Outer Range” could serve as television’s Exhibit A. Several members of the show’s crafts team sat down with IndieWire’s Jim Hemphill to discuss the making of the visually complex series. The panel consisted of director Lawrence Trilling, production designer Tommaso Ortino, VFX supervisor Jason Piccioni, editor and producer Travis Baker, and composers Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans.
The thing is, some of them hadn’t met until today.
“Some of us are just meeting each other today or at the premiere,” Trilling said. “We missed the collegial warmth you can have while making a show.”
The television Western is currently having quite the renaissance thanks to “Yellowstone” and its massively popular prequel “1883,” but “Outer Range” has little more than setting in common with its fellow Westerns. In fact, it’s pretty safe to say...

“Outer Range,” the new Josh Brolin-led Western series from Prime Video, aims to twist the well-worn genre at its very roots. To showcase the land of the West in a never-before-seen fashion, the eight-episode series mixes in an element of the supernatural, with mind-bending results.
“It took a very simple, straight-forward genre and then it took extraordinary twists, whether it be metaphysical or whatever you want to call it,” Brolin told Variety at the show’s premiere at Hollywood’s Harmony Gold theater on Thursday night. “It’s uncertain because there are so many directions it can go, and a lot of them can feel really cliché. But I feel like we kept it grounded.”

Whatever you do, don’t put your hand down that epic hole in the pasture!
Prime Video today released the official trailer for Outer Range, a this-isn’t-another-Yellowstone neo-western that stars Josh Brolin as a Wyoming rancher “fighting for his land and family.” We know; that sounds a lot like a John Dutton problem. But this series features a supernatural element that, among other things, seems to rip off Brolin’s shirt at night.
Here’s the down low: “At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca. They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture.

If you’ve ever watched “Yellowstone” and yearned for more sci-fi twists in between the Western melodrama, the new Prime Video series “Outer Range” is here to scratch that it.
The official, extended trailer for the new show was released today, which finds Oscar-nominated actor Josh Brolin starring as a rancher named Royal Abbott fighting for his land and family, and who discovers a supernatural mystery on his Wyoming ranch. Described as a “thrilling Western saga with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery,” the series hails from creator and executive producer Brian Watkins.
The show looks to blend the ranching drama stylings of the Paramount Network hit series “Yellowstone” with the supernatural mystery box nature of “Lost,” as a massive void appears on Abbott’s ranch just as he’s in a land battle with the neighboring family.

Prime Video announced on Wednesday that its western thriller series “Outer Range,” starring Josh Brolin, will premiere April 15 on Prime Video with a two-episode premiere.
In the official teaser trailer, which dropped on Wednesday, Brolin’s Wyoming rancher Royal Abbott says a highly unusual prayer at the dinner table: “Dear God … we ask that you show us the way here, because we’re in trouble. You made this crazy world, so maybe you can give us some sort of hint as to what you’re up to. Because I don’t have the first f—ing clue.”
The trailer, which brings the western setting of “Yellowstone” and the freaky “what the hell is happening?” vibe from “Yellowjackets,” shows glimpses of strange symbols, blood, a police chase, a dead bear and Lili Taylor seemingly communicating with an unseen entity, ends with Brolin screaming, “There is a great void!”

Fox announced that lawyer, journalist and former “The View” co-host Star Jones has been appointed judge of the first-run syndicated series “Divorce Court,” starting in September.
As television’s longest running court show, “Divorce Court” dates back to the late 1950’s, when actors used to reenact actual divorce proceedings. Today, the program features real people and real cases — ranging from divorce court proceedings to other domestic disputes.
Judge Faith Jenkins will continue through the end of Season 23 and Jones will join for Season 24. Jones, a former assistant district attorney in New York and former legal correspondent on NBC’s “Today Show,” “Nightly News” and more, said that she will “offer the parties before ‘Divorce Court,’ as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”

By now, you're either in the thick of Goliath's final season, or you've already watched and cannot wait to read more about it.
That works out great since we still have more on the way.
During Goliath's virtual press day, we had the chance to chat with producer, director, and Season 3 showrunner, Lawrence Trilling so that we could pick his brain about where the ideas emanated from and a lot of other good stuff. Enjoy!
What if that had been the last thing that anybody saw of Billy McBride? How would that have made you feel?
I would've been sad. However, that was absolutely in our calculation that it might be the case. We did not know when we finished shooting season three whether there'd be a season four.
Right.

Goliath Season 4 drops on Amazon on Friday, and the whole gang got together to say goodbye to Billy McBride and friends as they slay one final giant.
Once upon a time, the pharmaceutical industry seemed beyond reproach. In the real world, thanks to the opioid crisis, they're being called to task.
On Goliath's final season, Billy joins Patty at a prestige law firm where they've got a handle on Zax Pharmaceuticals, a company knowingly prescribing dangerous opioids to people who don't need them.
Billy and Patty to the rescue? It's never as easy as that. When we caught up with the cast, we asked what you can expect from the season, how hard it is to say goodbye, and more. Let's get started.
Jena Malone joins the cast as Sam Margolis. She joins an already strong group of ladies on the show, and Sam fits into the narrative beautifully.

The fourth and final season of the legal thriller about psychologically fragile attorney Billy McBride is a noir lover’s dream. “I had an image of Billy Bob wearing a trench coat standing by the Golden Gate Bridge,” says Goliath executive producer Lawrence Trilling, who decided to move the action from L.A. to San Francisco following the lawyer’s near-fatal shooting. Up north, he reluctantly joins his old pal Patty (Nina Arianda) at a prestigious law firm, where they target a new corrupt Goliath: George Zax (J.K. Simmons), the ruthless CEO of his family’s pharmaceutical company, which aggressively markets opioids to agreeable doctors and pharmacies. (Don’t miss Simmons’ surreal song-and-dance number extolling the drug.) As in any good noir story, the drama is fueled by several ambiguous characters. Among them? Frank (Bruce Dern), Billy’s eccentric neighbor with a surprising connection to the case, and two feuding...

Today, Amazon Prime Video released the official trailer and key art for the highly anticipated fourth and final season of Goliath.
If we thought Billy McBride was a badass during the first three seasons, we might be in for a surprise.
Here's what we know.
Goliath is going out with a bang, taking on one of the biggest bads in recent history.
This time, the struggle we've become used to will have to come from somewhere other than an attorney barely scraping by and down on his luck.
His refreshingly frank partner in crime, Patty, takes a job at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco, prompting Billy to return to his Big Law roots.
Together, they try to take down one of America’s most insidious Goliaths: the opioid industry.
With money behind them, we imagine there's nothing that will hold this dynamic duo down from slaying a pharmaceutical giant.

Billy Bob Thornton's starring vehicle at Amazon, Goliath has been a wild ride.
Today, the streamer announced the fate of the legal drama.
So, will there be another season featuring Thornton as Billy McBride?
The simple answer is yes.
The longer answer is yes, and you better enjoy it while it lasts because Goliath Season 4 will be the series' last.
Goliath Season 3 dropped on Amazon on October 4, 2019, and in a couple of words, it was bat-sh!t crazy!
During its latest season, Billy's dear friend Bobbi (Sherilyn Fenn) got sucked into a sinkhole in her vineyard thrusting him into the world of water rights in northern California.
Also starring Nina Arianda and Tania Raymonde, the season had some pretty terrific guest stars.

Amazon Studios has picked up a fourth and final season of Goliath, its original drama series starring Billy Bob Thornton. The news Thursday comes a little over a month after the streamer rolled out Season 3 last month, revealing a new case for Thornton’s conflicted super-laywer Billy McBride.
The legal drama, created by David E. Kelley and Jonathan Shapiro, broke ground at Amazon, landing the first straight-to-series order at the platform which at the time was employing exclusively a pilot model, making its pilots available to the public.
Since its 2016 debut, Goliath has been one of the most popular original series on Amazon, at one point holding the crown as the service’s most binged show. Thornton won a Golden Globe that first season for playing McBride, the hard-living, once-famous L.A. lawyer with a complicated past who seeks redemption by solving cases nobody else can crack.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Goliath” Season 2, including the ending.]
“Goliath” never set itself up to have happy endings. From the still-shocking image of a woman being run down by a van in Season 1 to the haunting visual of a limbless Mark Duplass under the knife in Season 2, the Amazon series is as hard-edged a drama as mainstream audiences can stomach.
Still, up until the very end, it’s comforting. Season 1 aims to give an honest depiction of the toll taken from a man fighting a giant, but David still slays Goliath. There are touches of humor, quirky characters, and charming romances; all the staples of a drama meant to be taken seriously without breaking from the status quo too much.
But a funny thing happens in Season 2: Right when you expect David to pull out the secret stone, load it into his slingshot, and take down the beast, the giant slaps his hand,...

Let’s get the requisite reactions out of the way: “Goliath” still isn’t the elite drama its pedigree (and inexplicable recognition from the HFPA) implies it could be, but it’s solid — more so now than in its uneven first season. The story of a drunk but persistent Santa Monica attorney who takes on the big bad powers that be continues to feel like an elevated, elongated episode of any ol’ “Law & Order”-esque procedural. But it’s got a more streamlined arc, and new showrunner Lawrence Trilling proves by season’s end that he’s actually interested in a longer game than eight episodes can contain.

As the cast of Felicity took the stage at the Paramount Theatre for the 20-year reunion at the Atx Television Festival, the memorable, comforting theme song echoed through the sold-out audience. Fans of the then-WB channel, angsty college drama welcomed stars Keri Russell, Scott Speedman, Scott Foley, Tangi Miller, Amanda Foreman, Ian Gomez, Greg Grunberg, Rob Benedict, Amy Jo Johnson, and show director/executive producer Lawrence Trilling as they reflected on their experiences on the show. But amidst all the nostalgia, cast camaraderie, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes, the cast had a tough time recalling that multi-tiered series finale and Noel — er, I mean Foley backpedaled his thoughts on a Felicity reunion.

Two decades after “Felicity” premiered, the cast and producer-director Lawrence Trilling reunited at the Atx Television Festival and addressed its controversial double ending.
“The network canceled us — kind of. And then they were like, ‘Just kidding,’ do a few more,'” titular star Keri Russell said in Austin, Tex. Sunday.
She added that series co-creators and executive producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves had agreed with the cast that Felicity had to graduate by the end of the show, so they planned for that moment to come in the 17th episode of the fourth season “regardless if they [were] going to give us .”
Then, when the WB did come back with an order for five more episodes that would ultimately wrap up the series permanently, the show was tasked with the question of what life-post graduation would look like for a character whose journey started by following her high school crush across the country.

Max Irons will soon follow in the formidable onscreen footsteps of Robert Redford. The forthcoming Audience Network series “Condor” casts the second-generation English actor (dad is Jeremy Irons) as avian-nicknamed CIA analyst Joe Turner, the role Redford originated in Sydney Pollack’s 1975 film, the Oscar-nominated “Three Days of the Condor.” Entertainment Weekly debuted the first trailer today, along with production photos.
The TV version adapted material from both the feature and its inspiration, James Grady’s novel “Six Days of the Condor.” Unlike its predecessors, this 10-episode telling is set in Washington, D.C. instead of New York City. Available to DirectTV subscribers, Audience Network is perhaps best known for another show based on a book, “Mr. Mercedes,” overseen by showrunner David E. Kelley.
