- Part of the famed "First Family" of American auto racing, Bobby Unser, along with his younger brother Al, and nephew Al Jr., have won nine Indianapolis 500 races, a record unmatched by any other racing family. Unser got his start racing in the 1950s and has won several races on dirt track ovals, paved ovals and road courses. He has won the famed Pikes Peak Hill Climb numerous times and won his Indy 500s in three different decades (1968, 1975, & 1981), one of only two drivers to accomplish the feat. Unser won two United States Auto Club championships (1968 & 1974) and was a threat to win any race he entered as evidenced by his 35 wins and 49 poles in USAC/CART competition. Unser retired soon after his final Indy 500 win in 1981, and has entered the television commentary world, most recently for Canadian television as a color commentator. He also follows the career of his son, Robby, who competes in the Indy Racing League, and could add another Indianapolis 500 championship to the family name.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Ken Severson
