- He and three of his brothers were U.S. Coast Guard cameraman during World War II. The four eventually went on to form a news photography business; that exists to this day as large archive. His grandfather James Watson shot pictures of Buffalo Bill riding up Broadway in 1904. An uncle George Watson was the first full time news photographer hired by the Los Angeles Times in 1917.

He once said, "The studios all knew we had kids of all sizes; when they wanted a kid, they'd come over and grab one of us. Pretty soon we were all working steady." As a family, their credits added up to more than a thousand films.
