MSgt Weinberger was presented the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal by the US Marine Corps for risking extraordinary danger in filming the Iwo Jima landing during WWII. From 43-45 Hal was with the 4th Division Marines, the staff noncommissioned officer in charge of the G2 photographic section. Under his charge they photographed the raising of the American flag in Ima Jima. Major Weinberger retired from the Marine Reserves in 1962.
