There are so many ways a movie can go wrong; to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, everything must go right. At the end of the New York Film Festival, the one movie that notches all the boxes is “Manchester by the Sea.”

It's Complicated: How Netflix and Amazon Add a Big Wrinkle to Sundance Deal Making The 2016 Sundance Film Festival got its first major breakout last night with the world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's domestic drama "Manchester By the Sea." Earning the strongest reviews so far for any feature at the festival, the movie set off a huge bidding war between a handful of major studio and indie distributors -- including Sony Pictures Classics, Universal, Fox Searchlight and Lionsgate -- but it's streaming platform Amazon that has come off on top. According to reports from Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the company has paid upwards of $10 million for the drama. Lonergan's third feature after "You Can Count on Me" and "Margaret," "Manchester" stars Casey Affleck as a man who moves back to his New England home in order to take care of his recently-deceased brother's 16-year-old son. Kyle Chandler and...

New York - Matthias Schoenaerts is best known for his roles in the acclaimed French drama "Rust and Bone" alongside Marion Cotillard and in last September's thriller "The Drop" opposite Tom Hardy, but the Belgian actor has spent a good chunk of the past 18 months shooting a number of period pieces with Oscar friendly actors. The first, "A Little Chaos" with Kate Winslet, debuted at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival to not so great reviews. The second, "Suite Française" with Michele Williams, has already opened to mixed reviews in most of Europe and there currently is no U.S. release date. The third, "Far From The Madding Crowd," which finds him romancing Carey Mulligan, has earned mostly positive notices so far and opens in limited release Friday. Adapted from Thomas Hardy's classic novel, "Madding" centers on Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan), a young woman who inherits a struggling family farm in the...

Birthday shoutouts go to Hugh Grant, who is 53, Eric Stonestreet is 42, Michael Buble is 38, and Michele Williams is 33.
Cher has joined the upcoming season of The Voice as an “adviser,” and will work with Blake Shelton.
Former sportscaster/horribly failed politician Craig James is unemployed … again.
Coming Out Of The Closet: 12 People Who Should Always Know You’re Gay. Do you agree?

Op-ed: Why I’m Going to See Ender’s Game.
Below you can see a time capsule of Boy George in “King Of Everything.” His voice is throatier now because of time and those years of substance abuse, but he’s still unmistakably Boy George.
Gay rapper Chapman has just released “Gay Rap Song,” in response to Macklemore/Lewis winning at the Vma’s.

It has been 113 years since L. Frank Baum penned The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and since then, it has been reimagined countless times in many different arenas, from the beloved 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz to the popular Broadway play Wicked.
Back behind the camera for the first time in four years, Sam Raimi has given Baum’s story a 21st century revamp, depicting Oz for this generation. It’s a bold move: with Oz the Great and Powerful being based on such beloved source material, this latest version will not please everybody, but there is a lot of enjoyment to be derived from the latest excursion into the land of Oz.
Serving as a spiritual prequel of sorts to the aforementioned 1939 film, the narrative focuses on Oscar ‘Oz’ Diggs (James Franco), a two-bit circus magician who dreams of greatness. When he is swept up in a freak tornado,...

Was it any coincidence that the power in the New Orleans Superdome blew just minutes after Beyonce’s knock-em-dead halftime performance? I don’t think so — it was the hottest Super Bowl halftime of the past 10 years!
Beyonce – you put your lip-synching controversy way behind you and killed it from start to finish in an sexy, electrifying halftime show. Thank you for rocking the house down at the New Orleans Superdome last night, Feb. 3, at Super Bowl Xlvii!
From the moment you appeared on stage amid fire and lights , you brought “it.”
You looked confident, sexy, and completely at home on that big lit -up stage. There wasn’t a moment where you faltered in your singing and dancing.

You can't stop Machete. Or Machete's women.
While Danny Trejo may be the only actor officially signed on for the "Machete" sequel, at least two of his co-stars from the original film are in talks to return for more Mexican mayhem, according to The Playlist.
Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are poised to reprise their roles from the 2010 film directed by Ethan Maniquis and Robert Rodriguez, a feature-length "Mexploitation" flick spawned from the mock trailer that appeared in the 2007 double feature, "Grindhouse." Alba played Sartana, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who ended up assisting (and falling for) the disgraced Federale, and Michelle Rodriguez played Luz, a taco truck proprietor who was later revealed to be a legendary revolutionary.
The sequel, "Machete Kills," finds Machete hired by the U.S. government to take down both a Mexican cartel leader and madman billionaire who plan to launch a weapon into space.

If you followed @afterellen's Golden Globes tweet-along at #showusyourglobes, you know that this year was almost as full of Gay Goodness as last year, even though we expected the awards to straighten up.
But we also expected Ricky Gervais not to be invited back, so what do we know?
Before we proceed with a recap of the festivities, I must put to rest any and all rumors about why I am doing this recap when awards shows are Dorothy Snarker territory. Ms. Snarker, faced with the choice of staying up all night writing about the Golden Globes or staying up all night partying in Vegas with lesbian softball players, chose the latter. I know, I know. But we will get through this together. On with the show.

The nominations for the eccentric gay uncle of the awards season have been announced, and there's quite a bit of gay interest, as well as some surprises.
The Golden Globes are always split into TV and Film sections, and during the award show, I always picture the film stars feasting on lobster and prime rib, while the TV actors are served Lean Cuisines and Little Debbie snack cakes.
But they're all on equal footing here, so let's take a look first at the television nominees.
The usual suspects are nominated for Best Comedy. 30 Rock, Glee, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, and first-timer The Big C.
There were no surprises in the Best Comedy Actress category. Toni Collette, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney, and Lea Michele.
Nominated for Comedy Actor are Alec Baldwin, Steve Carrell, Thomas Jane, Matthew Morrison, and Jim Parsons.

Blue Valentine is a powerful, haunting, decisive, and polarizing film that's sure to spark heated debate. Be careful, dear reader, this is not a date film. Under no circumstances should you watch this with your significant other. Blue Valentine is bound to destroy relationships. Comparisons to 500 Days of Summer are inevitable. The initial set up and core story of the film is essentially the same and Valentine even uses similar plot devices.
"This is not a love story."
Blue Valentine is a deconstruction of a relationship gone wrong and the entire genre of romance pictures. Like Summer, it jumps back and forth at different points within the relationship documenting both the blissful beginning and bitter end.
The main difference between Valentine and Summer, is that Valentine fulfills on its promise. Ultimately, 500 Days of Summer becomes a traditional Hollywood romantic comedy. While there were poignant moments within that film, its ending...

Celebrity — specifically American celebs and anticipated Hollywood product — will be well represented when this year’s Cannes International Film Festival unspools in May. The official lineup, announced by festival organizers early this morning in Paris, has a few expected titles, a few surprises, and plenty of A-list talent.
As previously announced, Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood,” with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, opens the festival on May 12. It screens out of competition, but represents the distinct mingling of American and international cinema that is heavily reflected in the 2010 program.
Doug Liman’s “Fair Game” also will be screened at Cannes. Starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts, it is a thriller about the Joe Wilson-Valerie Plame scandal that rocked the CIA (and was referenced in Rod Lurie’s “Nothing But the Truth”).
Two titles rumored to be heading to Cannes showed up on the list.

PopSugar Community user agent2278 submitted a Top 10 Celebrities I Heart to the group Celebrity Lists. Check it out below! 1.) James Franco, is at the top of the list, for obvious reasons. He's scorchingly hot, possesses a massive intellect, and happens to be super talented, to boot. 2.) Michele Williams makes amazing films, and, as a mother of three, I can appreciate the amount of effort she seems to put into raising her equally beautiful daughter. 3.) Ryan Gosling, who I feel is the next great talent of my generation. Plus, he seems like he would be really cool to drink a beer with. 4.) Maggie Gyllenhaal can do no wrong in my book. From the film roles she chooses to her choice of husband, she's got Great taste. 5.) Speaking of Ms. Gyllenhaal's husband, I just saw An Education. Peter Saarsgard is smokin', even when he's playing a lying perv. They should call it An Achievement.

Former member of Destiny's Child, Michelle Williams (II) has spoken out about her reluctance to reunite with the R&B and pop girl group. "I haven't heard anything about a Destiny's Child reunion. I'm focusing on me now and want to stand on my own two feet," the singer says.
The 28-year-old singer, furthermore, reveals that she is on the way of slowly building a strong basis for her solo career. "I'm definitely carving out my own niche. I don't look to them for anything. I've got a long way to go cos I'm starting over but I'm happy for it to build slowly," she adds in a statement.
Michelle's latest album was called "Unexpected" and will be available for purchase, starting from October 7. Her third solo effort is described as her first full length contemporary R&B album, moving away from the gospel style of her former efforts.
