"Sheridan Whiteside," the lead character of the Moss Hart/George S. Kaufman play
(and later film) The Man Who Came to Dinner, was based on Woolcott, an
old friend of Hart and Kaufman.
Credited with inventing the drink "Brandy Alexander".
Died while participating in an on-air round-table discussion on the war
with Germany.
