The largest group attending the Hong Kong Filmart is from Mainland China. Chinese cinema produced 426 films in 2008 and has a 15% yearly growth rate. Coproduction is attractive to the Chinese as is building screens to accomodate supply and demand. Hong Kong distributor Mei Ah and its production company Big Media announced their major strategy of building theaters in China. Europeans are looking to expand in the region and the British (Liz Wrenn's Electric Pictures, Eros, High Point, Revelation, Pathe, Fandango Portobello, Film London, Independent) and French (Elle Driver, MK2, ARP, Memento, Films Sans Frontieres, Canal+, Elephant Films, Directors Fortnight to name a few) both have a strong presence at the Filmart as do, naturally, the Australians. Among others from U.S. are Porchlight, Jerome Bliah's IFDC, Christine Iso's Pacifica, Distant Horizon, IM Global, Mandate, Scholastic, AFI's Rose Kuo, Giaim, Cinamour, Cine Excel, American World Pictures, Wonderphil, Peace Arch, Target, Quantum, Nu Image, Patricia J. Pawlak, Acquisition exec Phan Phung from Universal International / Focus Features, Lionsgate, Greenestreet , Monte Cristo, Easternlight.
