The "Star Trek" episode "The Apple" contained one of show creator Gene Roddenberry's favorite tropes: a remote, agrarian species living in harmony with nature, overseen by an ineffable technological marvel. In "The Apple," the Edenic planet of Gamma Trianguli VI is the home of a sexually innocent, childlike species that is granted their every wish by an all-powerful computer called Vaal. Vaal appears to be a giant snake-like head carved into the rock, but the Enterprise discovers that it is a machine intelligence that has kept the locals in a perpetual childlike state. They are immortal, but also have never had to work, nor are they allowed to "touch" (that is: have sex). Naturally, it will be up to Kirk (William Shatner) and the crew of the Enterprise to destroy Vaal and teach the aliens that growing up is necessary, and that having sex is okay and super-fun.

Hello, and welcome back for a brand new Let’s Scare Bryan to Death! After a short hiatus to accommodate our Hellraiser fundraiser in September, I’m ready to get back in the saddle trying to catch up little by little with my horror blind spots.
I’m very excited this month as I’m joined by Annie Rose Malamet of Girls, Guts, & Giallo, a “podcast and live screening series about subversive, controversial film.” Malamet brings a wealth of knowledge on queer history and kink to give her analysis a unique perspective, and you may have caught her on the PBS show The Historian’s Take and more recently on Shudder’s Queer for Fear documentary.
Admittedly, I’ve never been well-versed in the sapphic vampire films from the ’70s, so I was hoping the self-proclaimed “Only lesbian vampire expert” would bring one to the table. She did not disappoint with Stephanie Rothman’s 1971 film,...

This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.
For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.
In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

Celeste Yarnall, a busy episodic TV and film actress primarily of the 1960s and ’70s and remembered by fans of the original Star Trek series for her one-time appearance as Yeoman Martha Landon, died October 7 at her home in Westlake Village, CA. She was 74.
Her death followed a battle with ovarian cancer and was first reported on the website StarTrek.com. In 2014 and 2015, Yarnall wrote several guest columns for the website about her diagnosis.
Yarnall, a familiar presence in later years on the Star Trek convention and autograph circuit, also has a firm, if small, place in Elvis Presley history: In 1968’s Live a Little, Love a Little, the actress — beautifully decked out in a glittery silver mini-dress and, briefly, a white fur coat — played a party-goer who draws Presley’s single-minded attention. He sings “A Little Less Conversation” to her in perhaps the film’s most memorable scene, a...

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.
The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.
Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.
Here are some of the 40-plus Star Trek actors who also appear: Garrett Wang, Chase Masterson Tim Russ, Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Gary Graham,...

Director and documentarian Mark Hartley scores both a film history and comedy success with this ‘wild, untold’ account of the 1980s film studio that was both revered and despised by everyone who had contact with it. The ‘cast list’ of interviewees is encyclopedic, everybody has a strong opinion, and some of them don’t need four-letter words to describe their experience!

Vampire Con Weekend continued at Los Angeles' New Beverly, where a pristine print of the rare Roger Corman-produced Velvet Vampire was screened.
Directed and co-written by Stephanie Rothman, one of the earliest feminist Grindhouse filmmakers, Velvet is the story of Diane LeFanu (Celeste Yarnall), a rich, kinky vampire who lives in the middle of the desert. She plans to feed on a hippie couple that she finds attractive. Besides copious nudity, sapphic bloodsucking and dune buggies, the screening also boasted actress Yarnall, who showed up to talk about it.
(Clu Gulager and the daughter of late leading man Michael Blodgett were also in attendance.)
"This is the first time I have ever seen it in a theater," laughed Celeste Yarnall after the screening. The striking, elegant actress remembered "The first time I saw it was at a drive-in with my baby daughter in my lap as my mother told...

The Lost Boys kicked off Vampire Con weekend with a bang yesterrday... Selling out the New Beverly Cinema with an audience that appreciatively clapped at beloved lines, especially Corey Haim's lament, "My own brother, a Goddamn, shit sucking vampire!" and The Frog Brothers announcing they killed a vampire "that looked like Twisted Sister!" (A nod to one of Fangoria Radio's favorite hosts...)
Billy Wirth ('Dwayne) and Gerald McMann, Aka 'G Tom Mac', singer/composer of the film's theme song, 'Cry, Little Sister', were in attendance.
A rare print of Count Yorga, Vampire was shown (Under it's original title, The Loves Of Count Yorga, Vampire ) David J. Skal introduced both films.
Tonight, come in for some lesbian vampire goodness, with a screening of a rare print of Stephanie Rothman's Velvet Vampire(with star Celeste Yarnall in attendance), followed by Tony Scott's The Hunger. (Watch for future Green Goblin...

She Wants to Suck Your Blood by Tom Lisanti With the success of the Twilight books and movies and the hit HBO series True Blood, vampires are all the rage these days. Former '60s actress, the still beautiful Celeste Yarnall, will find time from promoting her new book Holistic Cat Care to be a special guest star at this year's Vampire's Con from August 14-16th in Hollywood where they will screen her cult horror movie The Velvet Vampire (1971). According to Celeste, the only known master print is part of Quentin Tarantino's private collection and he is graciously lending it for the occasion. Below Celeste remembers the making of the movie. In 1971's The Velvet Vampire (whose great tag line proclaimed, "She’s waiting to love you--to death!") Celeste plays the mysterious beauty Diana who after meeting married couple Susan and Lee Ritter (Sherry Miles and Michael Blodgett...

Major U.S. City Loses Battle Against Vampires!
August 14th - 16th - Los Angeles
On August 14th a major milestone in humankind's history will reach critical mass: Vampires Will Invade And Capture A Major U.S. City! And if you are adverse to having the life sucked from your body, you might want to avoid the following zip-codes from August 14–16 (or, wear your best chastity scarf!): 90036 and 90028 (Los Angeles, CA). That, my friends, is Ground Zero for what is being billed as the world’s first full-out, fangs-in-your-face convention entirely devoted to Vamp-Pop culture. Vampire-con! [look for staff horrorphile Gary Deocampo's highlight reports from the field]
First off, let's clarify what Vampire-Con is not: a zombie walk. Rather, it's a family reunion of sorts for those other creatures of the night who have seen a marked renaissance of late in everything from graphic novels to major Hollywood movies. The convention boasts a fully stocked film festival, bloody curated panels,...
