Distribution deals between theaters and streaming services are a fairly new innovation, though they are gaining in popularity. In March, Apple announced that it would spend up to $1 billion every year to start distributing its films theatrically, and Amazon committed to a similar sum to produce up to 15 movies a year for theater chains.

But Mansa is doing those other streamers one better. According to Deadline, the service — which was founded David Oyelowo, Nate Parker and Chiké Okonkwo along with tech entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff, and focuses on Black culture— has announced a deal with AMC Theaters to have its original movies shown in cinemas across the United States.
“A fundamental aspect of our business is to lift up underrepresented voices that have long been left out of traditional entertainment circles and distribution models,” said Mansa Chief Commercial Officer Chris Yates. “With this partnership in place,...

Mansa, a free, ad-supported streaming service centered on Black culture, has struck a distribution deal with AMC Theatres to have its original features and series exhibited in theaters nationwide.
The deal comes as specialty distributors and streamers continue to refine their strategies for maximizing the benefit of theatrical runs, which are still emerging from the chaos of Covid. Exhibitors who survived the pandemic are increasingly looking to alternative sources of content as some questions remain about traditional distributors’ level of commitment to theaters. The unique DNA of Mansa, which was founded by filmmakers and actors David Oyelowo, Nate Parker and Chiké Okonkwo along with tech entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff, also contributed to the unusual agreement.

The first installment of 2010's Comic-Con International schedule has been released, and it's already shaping up to be as busy as usual in San Diego.
The first chapter of the massive Comic-Con 2010 schedule covers Preview Night on Wednesday, July 21, and the first full day of events on Thursday, July 22. And if the first day is any indication, it's going to be another crazy year.
You can check out the full schedule of Wednesday/Thursday events at Sdcc's official website, but I've pulled a few of the highlights (in my opinion, at least).
With "Smallville" entering its final season, it will be interesting to see what Wednesday's Wbtv event might have in store for fans:
6:00-9:00 Special Sneak Peek Pilot Screenings— Wbtvg continues its Comic-Con tradition of hosting a special sneak peek premiere event on preview night, this year offering fans two opportunities to screen one of the fall...
