Early on, Marla Young was privileged to work with fiction greats John Irving (The World According to Garp, A Widow for One Year plus many other titles) and John Gardner (Mickelsson's Ghosts, Grendel, The Sunlight Diaries, October Light).
Her career launched first in print, writing for business and lifestyle magazines including ATLANTA Magazine, Southern Homes, Managing Editor/Head Writer for Monterey Bay Magazine and the annual GuestLife book. She continued that interest as an ongoing columnist and features writer for Gannett Publications.
She worked in production and then as Promotions Manager for an ABC news affiliate, a job that sparked her interest in visual storytelling.

Boyhood Shadows, Associate Producer. An award-winning documentary that initiated two programs on The Oprah Winfrey Show -- where she was a both a guest and subject of an interview. The documentary premiered nationally, June 26, 2013.
The Gathering of the Clans, Writer/Associate Producer. An award-winning documentary, Atlanta, GA.
Earthbound, drama, an Academy Nicholl's semi-finalist, in turnaround.
Finding Venus, Writer, a drama.
The Secrets They Bury, a mystery/thriller.
Marla is pitching six original scripts and is a Producer of "Boomer Love" (2018) a web series in production with a number of episodes that have aired with ongoing filming.
Many of her scripts have been award-winners, including such prestigious competitions as The Academy Nicholl's Fellowships, Creative World Awards, Fade-In Awards.
She served as a reader/judge for the Monterey County Film Commission's Annual Screenwriting Competition for a number of years. More recently, served as a judge for the New York Madness Short Story Competition, 2016.
Along the way, she's met an amazing array of talented filmmakers, producers, actors, writers, people behind the scenes... all working to bring their dreams and inspiration to the screen.
