Her songs "Zigeunerjunge" (gipsy boy), "Sehnsucht" (yearning),
"Schwarze Balalaika" (black balalaika) and "Mein Freund, der Baum" (my
friend, the tree) became cult classics after her death.
Performed her songs in several other languages besides German,
including French, English, Russian and Hebrew.
Was buried at the Westfriedhof in Munich, Germany.
As she and her mother died in a road accident under unexplained
circumstances when their car collided with a truck, there have been
conspiracy theories that the accident was a sabotage.
First German singer to win a golden record for 200,000 sold copies
posthumously (29 July 1978).
