Sun Zengtian was born in China in 1958. In 1979, he went to the Beijing Broadcasting Institute (now the Communication University of China), where he studied cinematography. Following his graduation, he began work as a cameraman and director at China Central Television (CCTV), the country's leading TV broadcaster. He is now highly acclaimed, having made more than a hundred television programmes.
Zengtian was CCTV's first-ever winner of an international television award, and is amongst the organization's most decorated directors. In the past ten years, he has become increasingly involved in the education and development of the next generation of film professionals, and has been appointed as a guest professor at several universities and as a supervisor of a number of post-graduate students.
Zengtian is a Member of the International Documentary Association, a Member of the Committee of the Chinese Documentary Association, a Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Visual Anthropological Association, and a Member of the Chinese TV Artists' Association.
