Kinect Star Wars
Hands on report by Tim Chambers
Last Thursday we were lucky enough to be invited to experience Microsoft’s new Kinect Star Wars game at the London Film Museum, not only that but when we arrived we found that we were also going to be playing the game on a Samsung 3D TV – 3D glasses and all!
Kinect Star Wars is made up of 5 different game modes with the Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising campaign making up the crux of the game. Set between the first two prequels and telling an all-new Star Wars story, Jedi Destiny is a third person, (almost) on-rails game that sees you play as a young Padawan with plenty of Jedi tricks up his sleeve – including wielding a lightsaber and throwing guys around with the power of the force. This main part of the game only takes 6 hours to complete, but on...

If you are keeping count there have been four films concerning faith released just in the last month or so – The Mighty Macs (made in 2007) counters the paternal-centered notions of the more recently made Courageous and Footloose. The other faith-based film of late, Vera Farmiga’s Higher Ground is a completely different beast altogether. Beginning on a note of great optimism, the 1971-set Macs follows Cathy Rush, a Baptist hired to coach basketball at a small all-girls Pennsylvania Catholic college, but does not follow in the footsteps expected of her.
Arriving at Immaculata College (later it would go co-ed and grow to be Immaculata University) – Rush (Carla Gugino) is provided with little resources, fighting for a makeshift practice space in the basement of the church. In a heartbreaking scene she asks for more and is led into the dormitory of Mother St. John (Ellen Burstyn) – who welcomes her to take...

Julianne Hough, Footloose Paranormal Activity 3 to Gross $10 Million Above Estimates?: Box Office On Friday (Oct. 21), Craig Brewer's Footloose was ahead of last weekend's top film, Shawn Levy's Real Steel, collecting $3.47 million in second place according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Real Steel, which stars stars Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, and Evangeline Lilly, took in $3.1 million at no. 3. Footloose features Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, and Andie McDowell. Aside from Paranormal Activity 3, the weekend's new wide releases turned out to be a series of implosive bombs. Distributed by Summit Entertainment — which hasn't had much luck outside the Twilight Saga franchise — Paul W. S. Anderson's 3D version of The Three Musketeers opened with $2.9m in fourth place, and is expected to take in a mere $8-9m by Sunday evening. Initial guesstimates placed the film's weekend take in the low teens. One of its leads,...

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend. Apart from Paranormal Activity 3, which is expected to top the weekend box office and doesn’t feature any original music, the following three movies are receiving a wide release:
The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Matthew MacFayden, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Juno Temple and Ray Stevenson features music by Paul Haslinger. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Take That’s end title song When We Were Young has been released earlier this week by Milan Records. Check out our previous article for the full details and audio clips from the score.
Also opening wide is the action spoof Johnny English Reborn starring Oliver Parker and starring Rowan Atkinson, Rosamunde Pike, Dominic West and Gillian Anderson. The film’s score is written by Ilan Eshkeri.

After trailing behind Real Steel on the weekend and on Monday, Footloose topped the North American box-office chart for three days in a row. Its box-office rule, however, is already over, as Paranormal Activity 3 opened with an estimated $8 million at Thursday midnight screenings at 2,200 locations, according to Box Office Mojo. [Photo: Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough in Footloose.] As Bom's Ray Subers remarks, that's considerably better than Paranormal Activity 2's $6.3m at 1,800 sites last year. Paranormal Activity 2 went on to gross $84.75 million in the Us/Canada and $177.51 million worldwide. The original Paranormal Activity collected $193.35 million worldwide. Including Thursday midnight's box-office take, Paranormal Activity 3 is expected to take in approximately $40 million this weekend — that would be more than any other movie at the North American box office since Rise of the Planet of the Apes on the first weekend of August. That is also proof that, as pundits everywhere affirm, audiences want original, quality movies and storylines.

Title: The Mighty Macs Director: Tim Chambers Starring: Carla Gugino, Ellen Burstyn, Marley Shelton, David Boreanaz, Katie Hayak There is a very simple game plan when depicting a sports-drama and very few films will deviate from that said game plan. And the same goes for The Mighty Macs; a true story that gives a glimpse into the meteoric rise of basketball Hall-of-Famer Cathy Rush. Cathy Rush (Carla Gugino) spent most of her days being the prototypical housewife in her marriage to NBA referee Ed Rush (David Boreanaz). Wanting to break away from the monotony of daily chores, she applies for the head coaching gig at Immaculata – an all catholic...

Underdog movies are a durable genre and never go out of style and a sports movie is never just about sports. The positive values of teamwork, discipline, bravery, determination, and overcoming impossible odds to rise from underdog to champion are the themes that fill the emotional spaces in sports dramas between the shots of balls in play. Take every sports movie cliche and throw them into a blender and you’ll get The Might MacS, an energetic new movie about basketball with a religious twist. Based on a true story, The Mighy MacS takes place in 1971 when a national champion was to be crowned for the first time in women’s basketball. Immaculata, a small private all-women’s Catholic college in Philadelphia was run by nuns but so short on money they were on the verge of dissolving. While major universities were preparing their game plans to win that first title,...

In 1971, when Pat Summitt was still a college student and Geno Auriemma was in high school, 23-year-old Cathy Rush stepped into the coaching position for the Immaculata College women's basketball team.
The "Mighty Macs" didn't have a home court because theirs had burned down. The team, which struggled to recruit and keep enough players to compete, had to practice at local gyms and play all its games on the road. The college administration at the Catholic school for women was less than supportive, especially when Rush wanted to put her girls through a tough practice regimen. The school itself was in dire straits financially. By all appearances, the Macs didn't have a prayer.
But Rush persevered and, in 1972, the team went to the first ever women's college basketball national championship. The school had a 15th seed (out of 16) and got to the tournament by selling toothbrushes to raise money. As you've probably guessed,...

Geno Auriemma, the revered University of Connecticut Women.s Basketball Coach, is a big fan of The Mighty Macs:
.We are all indebted to the Mighty Macs for what women.s basketball is today. Tim Chambers has done a wonderful job of capturing the essence of Cathy Rush and the story, and I hope everyone will be in theaters on Oct. 21 to see the movie. Even though we will have started practice by then, I.m going to do everything possible to see The Mighty Macs on opening weekend. This movie is worth the effort..
