Harare, June 17 (Ians) With 10 teams contesting for the last two places in the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India through the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe set to start from Sunday, former Zimbabwe cricketer Mpumelelo Mbangwa feels the significance of the event is way more important than it really is.
Sri Lanka and the West Indies, previous World Cup winners, will battle alongside hosts Zimbabwe, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, Netherlands, Nepal, the UAE and the USA in the next three weeks to determine who makes the cut for the main event in India.
“It is with great anticipation that I look forward to the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The significance of the event cannot be overstated. Whilst there is a nuanced appreciation for each team participating, the competition is a marker for the direction of our great game and requires that each give their best under the intense pressure of expectation.

The planned way in which England dismantled Pakistan’s potent pace attack on Sunday night at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the final was reminiscent of a similar type of attitude that Jos Buttler and his victorious team adopted against the star-studded Indian batting line-up in the semifinal clash at the Adelaide Oval on November 10.
The no-frills outlook and attention to details worked wonders for England as they restricted Pakistan to a total below 140 in the summit clash.
And when they chased the target, England’s batsmen were put under severe pressure by the top-class Pakistan bowling attack but came out with glory, led by the cool and calm demeanour of Ben Stokes, who stroked his way to 52 not out in 49 balls.

Melbourne, Nov 13 (Ians) All-rounder Ben Stokes showed calmness and poise in his typical gritty style to slam an unbeaten 52 in guiding England to the Men’s T20 World Cup title with a five-wicket win over Pakistan in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground here on Sunday.
Six years after Stokes was left heartbroken in the 2016 final at Kolkata when Carlos Brathwaite hit him for four consecutive sixes in the final over, Stokes finally found redemption by rising to the occasion in a big match and sealing England’s second T20 World Cup trophy.

Despite winning the 2010 T20 World Cup in West Indies, England were still playing a dated version of white-ball cricket and that was evident in their loss to Bangladesh where they hit the rock bottom. After their return back home, Eoin Morgan was entrusted with re-building the white-ball side, from head to toe.
Under Morgan, England brought in a fundamental shift in playing white-ball cricket, which was aggressive, fearless, players who showed these qualities with bat and ball were brought in, strategies became data heavy to create a template of playing white-ball cricket which was in sync with modern times.
That 360-degree transformation, akin to a Phoenix rising from the Ashes, led England to 2016 T20 World Cup finals, only to be undone by Carlos Brathwaite’s four sixes in the final over, a semifinal finish in 2017 Champions Trophy and finally, winning the 2019 Odi World Cup at home.

St. Kitts & Nevis is hosting this year's Cpl in its entirety, with all the 33 games scheduled to take place in the twin islands because of logistical issues arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sydney, Dec 10 (Ians) Sydney Sixers have signed England fast bowler Jake Ball for the 10th edition of the Big Bash League.
Ball will leave South Africa on Thursday, where he has been a member of England's white-ball tour squad, and will join the defending Bbl champions post Christmas once he has completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.
