Richard L. Frank was clinical professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai School Medicine (now the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) in New York, New York, USA. He was born in Ogdensburg, New York, USA, the son of Marion Sanger and Julius Frank. His mother was a homemaker and his father was mayor of Ogdensburg where he also ran a department store. Richard Frank was the middle of three children, but his older brother died during childhood. He graduated from the Yale School of Medicine in 1931, interned at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and was a resident at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (Columbia University) where he initially became a child psychiatrist simply because that department needed a psychiatrist. He married Doris Ansbacher in 1935. They had a son and daughter. He died in New York, New York on 10 February 1996.
