HBO/Max’s Sesame Street, Disney+’s The Muppets Mayhem and Jack Black were among the winners at the second annual Children’ &’s and Family Emmy Awards, which were handed out Sunday night by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Among its wins, Sesame Street (in its 56th season) was named best preschool series, while The Muppets Mayhem — which was canceled last month after airing only one season — was named best children’s or family viewing series.
Black, meanwhile, won his first-ever Emmy for best voice performance in a children’s or young teen program for his work as Po on Netflix’s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.
An excited Black took the stage to accept his award, giving a high kick and belting out “Kung Fu Panda, the dragon knight!”
“I’m really nervous and stoked to be here,” he added, noting that he was cast in the role 20 years ago.

RuPaul Charles, the Emmy-winning host and executive producer of RuPaul’s Drag Race, has signed a first-look scripted deal with Sony Pictures Television. Under the pact, Charles is ramping up his RuCo production banner, with former State Street Productions executive Jay Marcus joining the company as Head of Film and Television.
At Sony TV, RuCo will focus on telling queer, character-driven stories, centered around RuPaul’s signature brand of positivity, empowerment, humor, and music. The company will develop drama, comedy, and animated projects across all platforms.
“Not only I am thrilled and honored to join the Sony Pictures Television family, but I’m also extremely grateful for the opportunity to tell unique stories that push the conversation forward,” Charles said.

The studio has reunited its “The Hate U Give” production team for “On the Come Up.” George Tillman, Jr., is directing and Thomas is producing with Marty Bowen, Isaac Klausner, and John Fischer of Temple Hill and Robert Teitel, George Tillman Jr., and Jay Marcus of State Street Pictures. Following the 2018 release of Fox 2000’s highly emotive Ya drama The Hate U Give, the studio is reuniting with New York Times bestselling author Angie Thomas and the team behind the film for a feature iteration of Thomas’ second novel, On The Come Up. George Tillman Jr. is directing the follow-up for Temple Hill and State Street Pictures.
