If it were up to us, "Project Runway" would never be "out," it would just play on a loop 24/7/365.
Sadly, Season 14 will say auf wiedersehen on Thursday, November 5th, so now seems like a good time to take stock and rank the previous 13 seasons, with the expectation that the 2015 season will probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack once it's done. (Tim Gunn "hated" Season 14, but there have been worse.) Every season of PR is a precious, unique little rhinestone, but, like the judges, we have our favorites -- and now it's Our turn to be biased.
So here's our very subjective but still definitive worst-to-best ranking, which may only be challenged by a glare from Nina Garcia, an eye roll from Michael Kors, a "make it work" from Tim Gunn, or an "out" from Heidi Klum.

Project Runway, now in its tenth season with no signs of going out of style anytime soon, has had so many gay men on it, they could fill a Pride float draped in Italian wool, cut on the bias. Lesbian designers, not so much.

This year, the show features out lesbian designer, Alicia Hardesty. The last (known) lesbian contestant was Zulema Griffin in Season 2, and she was famously made to appear straight in the edit room. Whether or not Alicia will get the same treatment, eight years later, remains to be seen, but considering Alicia cites Huckleberry Finn as a style inspiration, I'd love to see Project Runway try and de-gay that.
We talked to Alicia recently about her experiences on the show, her plans to launch her own collection called Original Tomboy, and how much she loves being mistaken for Whitney Mixter.

Tim Gunn is unquestionably one of the smartest and most candid figures to gain fame as a reality show regular. As the designers' mentor on Project Runway, he's critical and honest, even if in subsequent interviews he sometimes seems like a shill for the contestants. (Calling season three runner-up Uli Herzner's eye for great prints "second only to Diane von Furstenberg" was and is a stretch.) Still, he's a thrillingly articulate professional. On yesterday's episode of his panel show The Revolution, Gunn enjoyed another moment of refreshing candor, admitting he hasn't had sex in 29 years. He's broached that topic before, but it's time we compile his proud moments of (often harsh) truth-telling in one place. Here are my favorites:
On relishing his 29 years as a single man
"The truth is, I don't have time to be a good partner. Relationships take commitment, and all my energy goes into my work.

One day before the Lifetime network's giant premiere block of Project Runway, The Project Runway All-Star Challenge, and the spin-off series Models of the Runway, our focus shifts towards the enigmatic last entry in that list. While Lifetime will inevitably treat Project Runway with the kind of nervous care administered to Tim Gunn's pearl follicles or steam-ironing Michael Kors's face, we question the attention given to (and the validity of) a show chronicling the least interesting facet of the Runway rigmarole. After all, season two vet Zulema Griffin can only emerge in a comical burglar mask and force the ladies into a hostage-situation walk-off once.
