Manchester City have only lost one of their last 15 meetings with West Ham as Manuel Pellegrini’s team entertain the East Londoners at the Etihad in the Capital One Cup semi-final.
Jack Collison scored a second half winner for the Hammers at Upton Park in March 2009, but that is the only victory they’ve recorded over City since back-to-back wins in 2006. Sam Allardyce remains short of striking options, so West Ham fans shall fondly remember Dean Ashton’s brace during an Fa Cup run to the final.
The Hammers are not much better off defensively either and come into this two-legged tie off the back of four defeats in their last five. Big Sam chose the Fa Cup third round tie at Nottingham Forest to blood youngsters en masse – a move that resulted in a 5-0 thumping.

Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest host Premier League strugglers West Ham United anxious to improve their record against the Londoners at the City Ground.
Billy Davies’s Reds will not get a better opportunity to put right two wins from the last ten home meetings with the Hammers than on Sunday lunchtime. Sam Allardyce has a defensive crisis on his hands – one made all the worse by Johnny Heitinga snubbing a move from Everton.
These sides last faced one another on the banks of the Trent early on in West Ham’s last promotion campaign of 2011-12. Big Sam and his team are League Cup semi-finalists, but if they are to progress in the other domestic competition then they will have to do it without several key names.

West Ham United host West Bromwich Albion protecting a record of a decade unbeaten in home meetings. Brian Deane scored three times – twice at the right end and then in his own net – in November 2003 as the Baggies edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3.
The Hammers last entertained Albion in March and ran out 3-1 winners, but they will still be without Andy Carroll – the difference between the sides that day. Sam Allardyce has further intensified the pressure on himself by describing Saturday’s lunchtime encounter with West Brom as “a must win” as West Ham have slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three.
Heavyweights Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all given the Hammers hidings in recent outings with only an extended run in the Capital One Cup affordng fans crumbs of Christmas comfort.

One of today’s big moves saw the finalisation of a deal for Wallace, an 18-year-old right-back moving from Fluminense to Chelsea. The Blues are loaning the Brazillian back to his former club until the end of the season. He went for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £5m. This deal – like many others that went through today – had been agreed in the last month or so, but could only be ratified once the window was open.
Staying in London, former Chelsea and Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini announced yesterday that he has agreed to end his 13-year stay in the Premier League and head to David Beckham’s old haunt, La Galaxy, on a free transfer.
The other big December mover to the Premier League was Daniel Carrico, a versatile midfielder and former captain of Sporting Lisbon. The 24-year-old – who also can play at centre-back – is...

Richardson was part of the pop band from their creation in 1985 through to 1987, when he quit after becoming disillusioned with the music industry.
The former guitarist has now decided to put his talented hands to a sporting use, joining Liverpool's medical team, tasked with keeping their stars in prime condition.
Richardson is currently in Austria with Liverpool, which recently signed England midfielder Joe Cole from Chelsea, on a preseason tour.

Claimed as the "biggest music news to come out of football world", soccer stars Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda are forming a rock band. The Chelsea teammates have no name for the band yet since they are "just at the beginning of the process and trying to start something special."
Drogba, who received a bass guitar from pal Wyclef Jean, would be the bassist while Malouda sits behind the drum set. Their vocalists are none other than fellow Chelsea players, John Terry and Joe Cole. "We have good singers in the dressing room but Jt and Joe are the best," Malouda gushed.
Roughly, their band would sound like Coldplay. "I went to Wembley to see Coldplay and it was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen," Malouda recalled. "I enjoy live music and going to concerts and shows. I love bands who rock the crowd."

There are two things that upset me about the ‘09’ year of each decade. Firstly, I am confused by the global conviction that this constitutes the end of a decade. As far as I am concerned, a decade begins in year ‘1’, not year ‘0’. Of course, either option is equally viable; but surely this impenetrable ambiguity should completely remove the need to celebrate the death of one decade and the birth of another? My second annoyance is a direct result of the first… the abhorrent and feverish proliferation of ‘top ten films of the decade’ lists. Top ten lists are nothing more than arbitrary attempts to recall and compress our favourite memories in order to free up more space for the next decade. Quantifying the mystical and romantic beauty of the cinema is a disastrous exercise; and it saddens me to see so many otherwise respectable film critics doing just this. Even The Times,...
