5. Southern Bastards (Image)
Southern Bastards #7-8
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Jason Latour
From masterminds Jason Aaron and Jason Latour comes Southern Bastards, a tale about a man, living with regret, battling the demons from his past, and facing them in his hometown. The writing is so good that Bastards has the feel of a great novel that’s rooted deep in American soil – in a place where the hero’s morality, regardless of the laws of country and state, is the last hope for a positive change. Set in the fictional Craw County, Alabama, the first story arc features a man on a mission to clean up his town with nothing but a stick locking horns with a crime boss who happens to be the local high-school football coach. The second story arc shifts perspectives and shows how the worst football player rose to power, and the sacrifices he made along the way.

Why Are Christopher Nolan’s Movies So Fun to Argue About?
The release of a Christopher Nolan movie, even one that “underperforms” at the box office like this week’sInterstellar, is by far the most fervently talked about work of art for several news cycles. Even in the face of constant barrages of Taylor Swift headlines, Nolan’s work is intensely debated and scrutinized in a way no other filmmaker receives for even one film, let alone all of them… read the full article.
‘Interstellar’ on the Small Screen
Concertgoers often rave about the opportunity to see their most cherished acts perform in a small, intimate space. There’s like an infinite number of bobbing heads in a Madison Square Gardens audience, but standing just feet away from your beloved musicians where if you’re lucky there’ll be some eye contact — that’s where the magic supposedly is… read the full article.

The Fade Out #3
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
With issue #3, The Fade Out moves away from beaten-down protagonists Charlie Parish, shifting its spotlight on new characters while more familiar faces slide into the background. Using unexpected flashbacks and unique third-person narration, Brubaker reveals the complicated personalities of two additional characters at the opposite end of the Hollywood spectrum. The focus here is on Mr. Thursby (head of Victory Street Pictures who has been doing everything in his power to silence the true nature of Valeria Sommers’ death), and Maya Silver (a young actress hoping to replace Valeria’s lead role in an upcoming film). Ed Brubaker shows us more of the dirty side of the film industry, capturing the various power struggles and moral dilemmas that come with seeking fame and fortune. The scope of this series gets wider making it another winning chapter of a truly great comic.

The Fade Out #2
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
Using the murder of a Hollywood starlet as a catalyst to expose the web of dark secrets that runs through the City of Angels, the award-winning team of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have put together the most intriguing comic of 2014. Brubaker & Phillips’ new crime noir is just getting started but its already destined to be a cult classic. Brubaker’s name has been synonymous with the noir genre from the very start of his career, but The Fade Out is different from his books that came before it. Set in the Hollywoodland era of the 1940s, with painstaking attention to historical detail, The Fade Out relishes in classic Hollywood tropes – so much so – that every page looks like a storyboard from an Anthony Mann film. This is clearly, a labor of love from its creative team who...

Shelley Dufresne and Rachel Respess, English teachers at Drestrehan High School, were arrested Wednesday after they were accused of having sexual relations with a student.
Teachers Arrested For Alleged Threesome With Student
Dufresne (pictured above), 32, and Respess, 24, were arrested in Kenner, La., on Wednesday, after it was alleged that they had invited a 16-year-old student to Respess’ Kenner apartment after a football game on Sept. 12, and proceeded to have sex with him.
The student involved is currently a junior and was 16 when the relationship started – he is now 17 years old. Officials were alerted to the student’s sexual relationship with his teachers after the boy was overheard bragging about his conquests at school. He told police that he consented to the sex, but, as a 16-year-old, he was a minor under Louisiana law, and therefore, could not consent to sex with an adult.

The Fade Out #1
Story by Ed Brubaker
Art by Sean Phillips
Colors by Elizabeth Breitweiser
Cover by Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
Modern noir masterminds Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips begin their five-year deal with Image with the release of the first issue of The Fade Out, a sprawling saga of corruption and redemption set against a gritty West Coast backdrop. As the premiere storytellers of crime/noir comics, Fade Out actually marks their first trip into Hollywoodland, the never-innocent city of illusions. The Fade Out sees them return to the familiar conventions of ‘classic’ crime noir, and weaves a tangled web through the underbelly of a 1940′s film industry. In addition to unsettling narrative themes of ambiguity and violent death, certain stylistic characteristics immediately spring out: stark, angular shadows; the isolated feel of modern cities; conflicted anti-heroes and boiled down dialogue. The multi-layered plot grabs you immediately — and Brubaker...
