Columnist and reporter for The Washington Star newspaper and, after its
demise, The Washington Post.
Won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for her commentary on the Watergate hearings. Her name was on Richard Nixon's list of "White House enemies" which was made public in 1973.
After attending secretarial school, McGrory became an editorial
assistant at Houghton Mifflin publishing house. She was hired by the
Washington Star newspaper as a book reviewer. Her first "hard news"
assignment was covering the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954. The Star
syndicated her column to prevent the Washington Post from luring her
away.
