She was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 2006.
She was born into a Sephardic Jewish family. Her father was a law clerk, and her mother was the daughter of a rabbi.
She went to Paris after WWII to attend law school. After graduating from the Sorbonne, she returned to Tunisia to practice.
