Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. If you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.

Mondo, the greatest boutique pop culture poster company of all time, is dead.
Or rather, it's on the verge of death. A new report from The Wrap says that Funko, the new-ish corporate overlords of the once omnipresent, Austin-based collectibles company, has shut down Mondo's poster division and fired the majority of the staff, including the company's co-founders. And while we don't know what that means for their toy and vinyl divisions, this is a real "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"-type situation. Even if the body is still alive, the heart has been ripped out.
But the sad truth is that Mondo has been struggling for years, often against a landscape it helped create and define. There was a time when Mondo produced the coolest pop culture art in the world. It was vital. The latest Mondo poster was the sought-after item for movie fans wanting to...

I thought I was done buying The Texas Chain Saw Massacre after upgrading to the 40th anniversary edition Blu-ray in 2014. Between the crisp presentation and the copious extras, I was certain it was the definitive version of Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 masterpiece. Yet here I am, nearly a decade later, ready to sing the praises of Dark Sky Films‘ 4K Ultra HD edition.
Long before “gritty” was an industry buzzword, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre epitomized the term. As such, one might be wary that a 4K restoration could hinder the viewing experience, but that is not at all the case. Utilizing the 4K scan from the aforementioned Blu-ray, which was approved by Hooper, and now with a wider color gamut courtesy of Hdr, the picture is presented in staggering clarity while maintaining the 16mm film grain. The oppressive heat is virtually palpable.

Read More: 'Goodnight Mommy' Directors on the Value of Violence and How Horror Should Be 'Challenging' At a "random time" today, Mondo will drop new posters for two indie horror flicks out in theaters this weekend: the uncanny identity crisis that is "Goodnight Mommy" and "Cooties," a zombie-comedy featuring flesh-eating preteens. The poster for "Goodnight Mommy" features the titular mother's bandages with the face underneath fading away into a jet black background. A smear of blood on the bandages mimics tears, which provides a bright red highlight and reflects the film's emotional theme of mixing terror and maternal sadness. The "Cooties" poster, a collaboration between Jay Shaw and Jason Edmiston, is a very retro design with a skeletal hand holding a brightly colored spiral lollipop, folding a classic symbol of childhood into the horror aesthetic. According to the Mondo website, Shaw made the poster before he was able...

A few weeks ago we ran a post featuring some of the artwork from Canadian artist Jason Edmiston that he made for a show Mondo is hosting called "Eyes Without a Face". It features prints created by Edmiston in 3:1 aspect ratio, inspired by the field of vision of a standard rearview mirror in a car, showing only the eyes of pop culture characters of all kinds. It's an amazing, amazing show with some incredible work and tons of favorites. If I had the money, I would've bought a few of these. And the originals are now on sale via Mondo for those who do have the cash. In addition to the batch we featured a few weeks ago, I've tossed up a few other favorites from the show this weekend (including the Medusa one that involves a mirror). Take a look! Here are some of my recent favorites including: Batman + Bane,...

Another week, another cool collection of magnificent artwork from the collectible arthouse Mondo. This time it's artist Jason Edmiston with his exhibition called "Eyes Without a Face," with about 150 paintings focusing only on the eyes of some famous figures of pop culture. They're all 3:1 aspect ratio inspired by the field of vision of a standard rearview mirror of a car, but the sizes of the paintings themselves vary in size as Edmiston told BuzzFeed, "I’ve got tiny characters that are a half-inch wide all the way up to a seven-and-a-half foot wide painting. It’s quite a range." These are pretty fantastic pieces. Look! Here's just some of the pieces from "Eyes Without a Face" from Mondo (see more at BuzzFeed): Edmiston says movies have a big presence in this show, "“I’d say 75% are movies — that’s the most visually interesting — but I’ve got television,...

But even they may have outdone themselves with this next magnificent feat. Yes, Edmiston's next gallery will have 150 different pieces of art in it. Just the four below that we're allowed to share with you today already have us drooling. There are few things in life more terrifying than seeing a towering man wearing a mask of skin running at you with a whirring chainsaw. Unfortunately for Sally Hardesty (played by the late, great Marilyn Burns), that’s exactly what she faces in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror movie masterpiece, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The film recently had its 40th anniversary, and an incredibly detailed new poster from Grey Matter Art continues the celebration by superbly depicting what is perhaps the film’s most haunting close-up.

I don.t care what anybody says, Rocky IV is a classic. Sure, it.s not as iconic as the first film and it.s way more cheesy, but nothing beats the showdown between Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren in the ring. Artist Jason Edmiston created this awesome piece of tribute art for Rocky IV featuring the badass boxer Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren, carved into a mountain. Rocky is climbing up the mountain and ready to take it on. I’ve always liked Rocky IV, regardless of how cheesy and over-the-top it was. Hell, those are the reasons why I liked it so much!
The English print is the regular. It’s a 24 x 36 inch, 9 color screenprint in an edition of 150. It will cost you $50. Then there’s a Russian variant, which comes in an edition of 75 and will cost you $60.
The poster will go on sale at 3 p.m. Est on Boxing Day, which is today, Friday, Decemeber 26th at skuzzles.com. Thanks to /Film.

This is a trailer for a great looking documentary on the history of movie posters calledTwenty-Four By Thirty-Six. We've got a fun portrait series featuring three horror character icons with over-exaggerated facial features. The big eyes, nose and mouth seem to make these characters even more terrifying than they already are. The series includes Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface.
The art was created by Jason Edmiston using acrylic paint on wood panels. They are part of the Tiny Trifecta art show, which is set to open June 14th at the Cotton Candy Machine.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original release of Tobe Hooper's Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which embarks on a theatrical re-release this summer after screening at the SXSW Film Festival. Want to learn more? Read on!
Entertainment Weekly has scored an exclusive look at the incredible poster whipped up for the theatrical revival courtesy of artist Jason Edmiston. They also sat down with Hooper, who opened up about the process of restoring the classic film for its return to the big screen.
"It’s in 7:1 sound that completely wraps around you and in 4K [resolution]," says the master of horror. "The film works as well, if not better, than it originally did."
Hooper went on to say that the restoration process was "the work a director should do, to keep his film preserved." Amen to that.

Fans of film and television posters and artwork have come to expect great things from Alamo Drafthouse's art division Mondo, and this year is no exception. Mondo and the Oh My Disney blog will pair up for a run of limited edition Disney posters that will be available exclusively at SXSW. It's a nice contrast to last year's run of limited edition "Game of Thrones" posters, a slightly gloomier fantasy world than most of the Mouse House's material. The event will take place from March 7-11 at the Mondo Gallery on 4115 Guadalupe St, starting with an opening reception on Friday, March 7 from 3-10pm. The show features new artwork from Martin Asnin, Billy Baumann, Anne Benjamin, Daniel Danger, Jason Edmiston, Kilian Eng, Graham Erwin, Francesco Francavilla, Hero Design Studio, Brandon Holt, Aaron Horkey, Rich Kelly, Landland, Methan Studios, Mike Mitchell, Dave Perillo, Dave Petersen, Phantom City Creative, Jc Richard, Jay Ryan,...

It's often said that movies - specifically horror movies - aren't what they used to be. But it's not just the movies that aren't made the way they used to be, it's also the art that's created to market them. In fact, it's kind of hard to even refer to the posters studios churn out nowadays as art - considering there's nothing all that artistic about them.
While posters for films like Jaws, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween grabbed - and continue to grab - our attention and demanded we see the movies, the posters that accompany horror movies nowadays don't have quite the same effect. While studios once used to commission artists and photographers to create beautiful pieces of art to promote their movies, they no longer seem to be interested in such artistry.
Advancements in technology have more or less ruined the art of movie poster art,...
