Tiger King subject Carole Baskin and her husband, Howard Baskin, have a major update for all their “cool cats and kittens” out there: The couple is closing their Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary in Tampa, Florida. “Big Cat Rescue has entered into an agreement with Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, an accredited sanctuary in Arkansas, to move most of Big Cat Rescue’s cats to Turpentine Creek, where we will continue to fund their care for the rest of their lives,” Howard wrote in a March 27 memo on the sanctuary’s website. Howard explained that as he and Carole spent the last decade “focused intensely” on getting the Big Cat Public Safety Act signed into law, the cat population at Big Cat Rescue aged and dwindled. “As the population declines, it becomes an increasingly inefficient use of donor funds per cat to operate a facility like ours,” he wrote. “The win-win...

Carole Baskin is closing down her Big Cat Rescue sanctuary that was featured in the Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, her husband Howard Baskin revealed in a memo.
“Big Cat Rescue has entered into an agreement with Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, an accredited sanctuary in Arkansas, to move most of Big Cat Rescue’s cats to Turpentine Creek where we will continue to fund their care for the rest of their lives,” read the memo posted on the Big Cat Rescue website.
Howard also stated that once all the cats are moved, “we will sell the sanctuary property and use the proceeds to fund these species-saving projects in the wild.”
The memo continued, “Supporting our cats in larger enclosures at Turpentine Creek, at much lower cost per cat than we incur by continuing to operate Big Cat Rescue, will free up resources to let us do much...

Netflix lovers became obsessed with the stories of Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin when Tiger King first dropped in 2020. The disappearance of Baskin’s husband, Don Lewis, in particular, captivated the country. Though it’s been several years since the story drew such mass attention, Carole Baskin’s missing husband is back in the news. Here’s why.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Netflix released the true crime documentary series, Tiger King. The show followed former zookeeper Joe Exotic and his years-long feud with Carole Baskin, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue. Exotic was eventually convicted of trying to hire a hitman to kill Baskin.
In August 1997, Baskin’s second husband, Don Lewis, went missing. The Sun reports that Lewis owned several planes that he was known to fly.

They join an ensemble led by Abigail Breslin, which also includes Luke Wilson, Andy Garcia and Donald Sutherland, as previously announced.
The film will tell the true story of Trish Weir (Breslin), who in 1963 was kidnapped and brutally raped by Ernesto Miranda. A federal judge on Friday ignored a plea for leniency by Tiger King star Joe Exotic, resentencing him to 21 years in prison.
Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage) was originally sentenced in January 2020 to 22 years in federal prison after his conviction in a murder for hire plot involving animal rights activist Carole Baskin. Both were featured prominently in Netflix’s hit true-crime series that explored the strange world of big-cat breeding.
The former zookeeper asked for a reduced sentence as he began treatment for prostate cancer. He wound up with just a year off his original sentence.
“Please don’t make me die in prison waiting for a chance to be free,” Exotic tearfully told the federal judge. He still had his trademark mullet hairstyle, but the bleach-blonde has now faded to brown and gray.
Baskin and husband Howard Baskin attended the proceedings. She said she was fearful that Maldonado-Passage could threaten her.

2Nd Update: The sequel series to Tiger King has been on Netflix for almost a month now, and today Carole Baskin’s lawsuit against the streamer and others over the Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode directed franchise is over.
Having failed to get a desired injunction to block the November 17 launch of Tiger King 2 and facing a summery judgment motion, Big Cat Rescue founder Baskin and her husband Howard have dropped their contact lawsuit over the series.
In a one-page filing in federal court Wednesday, the Baskins gave “notice of their voluntary dismissal of this action.” Within hours of the dismissal from the plaintiffs, Tampa-based Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington officially tossed the messy matter “without prejudice” – which means it’s over …unlike Joe Exotic’s prison stint.

Michael Webber’s documentary “The Conservation Game” has scored a raft of global sales.
The film explores the largely unregulated U.S. trade in exotic animals, especially big cats like lions, tigers, and leopards and their connection to celebrity conservationists. It follows retired police officer and exotic animal expert Tim Harrison and fellow animal rights activists including attorney Carney Anne Nasser — who initiated the wildlife trafficking case against “Tiger King” Joe Exotic — and Carole and Howard Baskin (founders of Big Cat Rescue).
The film tracks Harrison as he stumbles upon a bombshell discovery while undercover at an exotic animal auction and starts an investigation to track down the whereabouts of rare and endangered big cats. As his investigation unfolds, Tim wrestles with the consequences of exposing the tightly held secrets of the exotic pet trade and ultimately confronting his childhood hero, zookeeper Jack Hanna.

I can't believe today is the day I'm going to agree with Carole Baskin about literally anything, but here we go!
While "Tiger King 2" will (supposedly) be hitting all of our collective Netflix queues on November 17 (just in time for a casual Thanksgiving binge-fest), Baskin is doing everything she can to get her piece of the pie ... Or perhaps stop the release of "Tiger King 2: The Squeakquel" altogether.

Carole Baskin has filed a last-minute lawsuit against streaming giant Netflix seeking to stop the upcoming release of Tiger King 2 on Nov. 17.
In her complaint filed Monday in federal court in Florida, Baskin says she was “shocked” when the official trailer released last week “prominently portrayed” her as a “central” figure of the upcoming sequel. She claims the new follow-up series repurposes her interview material from the original docuseries without proper consent, after she “steadfastly” rejected any role in Tiger King 2, telling producers, “No, and lose my number.

Carole Baskin is suing Netflix for using footage of her in the upcoming “Tiger King 2” series.
Baskin and her husband, Howard Baskin, filed suit in Tampa, Fla. on Monday against the streamer and production company Royal Goode Productions. According to the documents, obtained by Variety, Baskin alleges that Royal Goode Productions has breached contract by continuing to use footage of her and her husband in “Tiger King 2,” since they only signed appearance release forms for the first documentary. Netflix declined to comment on the matter.
“Understanding that the Appearance Releases limited Royal Goode Productions’ use of the footage of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue to the single, initial documentary motion picture, the Baskins believed that any sequel – though odious – would not include any of their footage,” the document reads, also stating that the Baskins were surprised to see that footage of them was used in the trailer for “Tiger King 2.

Kyle MacLachlan is returning to TV for a based-on-a-true-story limited series that’s perhaps even weirder than Twin Peaks.

This time last year, the craze over Netflix's Tiger King docuseries was just beginning to die down. We wouldn't be surprised if over the course of the last 12 months you forgot that not only is there a movie in the works (starring Nic Cage), there's also a TV series. Kate McKinnon was actually cast as Carole Baskin back in November of 2019; months after that news quietly came and went, there was a popular Wondery podcast about the stranger-than-fiction story and the Netflix series became a cultural phenomenon. Since then, NBC has announced that the McKinnon series will be exclusive to its streaming platform, Peacock.
Take a look at the actors who have been officially announced below - we're still curious about who Peacock will tap for Doc Antle and Howard Baskin!

A year ago Saturday, Netflix launched the series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” a fascinating character study filled with big cats, drugs, sex cults and some very questionable motives. Released at the beginning of an unprecedented quarantine lockdown, the seven-part documentary series quickly became one of the most talked-about shows in the world. Within the first month, the pop culture phenomenon was sampled by 64 million households worldwide.
As a result of the show’s success, there are many spinoff projects in the works. Investigation Discovery is developing a series titled “Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic,” which will serve as a direct sequel to “Tiger King” and investigate the disappearance of Carole Baskin’s husband. Kate McKinnon will star as Baskin in an upcoming limited series currently titled “Joe Exotic,” which received a multi-platform series order at NBCUniversal Television. Back in May, Variety exclusively reported that Nicolas Cage...

We know, we know. The elephant inside that Dancing With the Stars ballroom only grows larger each time Carole Baskin slips on her glittery kitten heels and makes a cat-themed arrival. Tiger King fans know exactly what we're referring to: Did she or didn't she get rid of her ex-husband via… murder? It's a question not even Megan McCain could ignore during a recent segment on The View. (Baskin denies these accusations.) Regardless of which version of that story is the most believable, Baskin isn't going anywhere. In fact, she and her husband Howard Baskin have teamed up for a forthcoming unscripted series. But for now, DWTS is her focus. Which brings us to last...

Here's a cover of 50 Cent's "In Da Club" you probably weren't expecting...courtesy of Carole Baskin. The Big Cat Rescue founder of Tiger King fame has found stardom beyond reality TV as a personality on Cameo, where people can pay to have her record a personalized message. Several of her recordings have sparked attention on social media, including one of her and her husband Howard Baskin wishing someone named Charlotte a happy birthday to the tune of 50 Cent's hit 2003 track. Howard even had a bottle of Bacardi on hand as a prop to go with the lyrics. They also made a noticeable change to the song, replacing "f--k" with "fudge" for...

Like a stealthy tiger padding through the jungle, no one saw Netflix’s “Tiger King” coming. Once word started to spread to homebound viewers hungry for an engrossing quarantine watch, it was too late to un-see the questionable conditions the animals were kept in, and the questionable taste in tattoos of nearly everyone involved. Nielsen said that more than 34 million people watched the series in the first 10 days — more than Season 2 of “Stranger Things,” and almost as many viewers as “Stranger Things” Season 3.
It was the most tweeted-about show in the country the week after it came out, with celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Kim Kardashian and Jared Leto weighing in. A wave of memes followed, then the announcement of an aftershow hosted by Joel McHale and TMZ’s “Tiger King: What Really Went Down?” on Fox.

In one of her first big interviews since the release of Netflix’s “Tiger King,” Big Cat Rescue owner Carole Baskin tells the Tampa Bay Times she is angry with the Netflix series’ directors for allegedly betraying her and with viewers for missing the entire point of the show. “Tiger King” tracks the rivalry between Baskin and Joe Exotic, a big cat purveyor from Oklahoma who is now in jail for conspiring to murder Baskin. Joe Exotic alleges Baskin killed her ex-husband and fed him to her tigers. The disappearance of Baskin’s ex-husband has become such a breakout talking point from the series that Florida police have reopened the investigation into the matter.
“I just feel so angry that people have totally missed the point,” Baskin said to the Times. “And the point is these cubs are being abused and exploited and the public is enabling that.”
