Remember that time, almost exactly two years ago, when pandemic lockdowns had just begun, and the scents of bleach spray and sourdough filled the air as we all united in our obsession with a mulleted, eyelinered man who bred tigers and his nemesis, an animal activist who wore animal prints and flower crowns? Well, it has been a long two years, so maybe it’s as good a time as any for a little early pandemic nostalgia, courtesy of Peacock’s eight-episode miniseries “Joe vs. Carole,” which revisits the story of the 2020 Netflix documentary “Tiger King,” this time in scripted form.
The question, of course, is whether this story warrants multiple retellings, especially in such a short period. Is the feud between animal-collecting showman Joe Exotic and big-cat rescue activist Carole Baskin really the “Macbeth” of our time? Or even the O.J. Simpson murder trial of our time?

Big cats and an even bigger love life. Tiger King breakout star Joe Schreibvogel Maldonado-Passage, aka Joe Exotic, detailed his wild past romances with ex Brian Rhyne, former husband Travis Maldonado, and lovers Jc Hartpence and John Finlay during the first season of the megahit Netflix docuseries, as well as at the time current marriage to Dillon Passage (the two later separated in spring 2021). Now that Tiger King 2 has launched, fans are getting more of a view into Exotic’s past — including his romance with ex-fiancée Kimberly Craft, whom he first met Kimberly at age 19 when he was serving as the youngest chief of police in Texas. “He had a magnet that said ‘police’ that he put on the side of his squad car,” Craft explains in the first episode of Season 2. “He was very good looking and he ended up asking me out on a date, so we started dating.

Nicolas Cage will not be playing Joe Exotic.
The beloved actor was set to lead an Amazon drama series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.”
But it sounds like the Tiger King craze is coming to a close with a thud.
“I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together,” Cage said to Variety of the decision.
“They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”
Indeed, the world has changed substantially since Netflix's wildly successful docu-series hit the air in 2020.
As a result, it feels like a distant memory, and it seems Amazon was concerned about investing time and money into a project...

Peacock’s “Joe Exotic” series had to get a bit exotic in its casting process to fit the real-life troupe of characters chronicled in Netflix’s “Tiger King” docuseries. Fortunately, with “Saturday Night Live” standout Kate McKinnon on board from Day 1 as Carole Baskin, the scripted streaming series was off to a very good start.
Then they landed Dennis Quaid, and, well, just ask your mom what she thinks about that choice to play Rick Kirkham. Better yet, ask Rick Kirkham, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel’s reality TV show producer, what he thinks. However, Quaid had to step away from the role due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced with William Fichtner.
Based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor, the Peacock limited series will center on Carole Baskin, a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit.

The “Ghost Adventures” crew got way more than they bargained for when they grabbed their Sls and infrared cameras, Emf detectors, digital recorders and spirit box and headed to Oklahoma to investigate rumors of paranormal activity at Joe Exotic’s zoo. What they walked away with is what lead investigator Zak Bagans called “overwhelming,” “crazy things,” including visual evidence of a restless spirit who took his own life — and another whose life was supposedly taken.
In “Ghost Adventures: Horror at Joe Exotic Zoo,” Bagans, along with investigator Aaron Goodwin and Av tech investigators Billy Tolley and Jay Wasley, went inside the infamous Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park to investigate disturbing accounts of supernatural activity. As the first-ever paranormal investigation inside the park at the center of the docuseries “Tiger King,” the guys looked into claims from the park staff who have said through the years that the 16 acres and the structures on it were haunted.

Like a stealthy tiger padding through the jungle, no one saw Netflix’s “Tiger King” coming. Once word started to spread to homebound viewers hungry for an engrossing quarantine watch, it was too late to un-see the questionable conditions the animals were kept in, and the questionable taste in tattoos of nearly everyone involved. Nielsen said that more than 34 million people watched the series in the first 10 days — more than Season 2 of “Stranger Things,” and almost as many viewers as “Stranger Things” Season 3.

For all you cool cats and kittens who need more “Tiger King,” Netflix delivered a bonus episode of interviews on Sunday morning.
Hosted by Joel McHale, “The Tiger King and I” aftershow brought back favorites like John Finlay, Erik Cowie and Kelci “Saff” Saffery. The “Tiger King” crew talked about how they’re getting used to their new celebrity statuses and revealed a few secrets that didn’t make it into the show.
Here are the highlights from the interviews.
Joe Exotic is terrified of big cats
The show saved the best interview for last as TV producer Rick Kirkham dropped a few bombshells, including that his wannabe TV star was scared of his own animals. Joe Exotic (whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage) would regularly pose with two tigers who were blind and tranquilized, posing no threat to him.

Tiger King's John Finlay has already become a meme for his bizarre appearance during the documentary, but if you're wondering where Finlay is now, you might be surprised! The tattoo-laden "younger man" who worked for and married Joe Exotic actually seems to have moved along with his life and is living far from his tangled-up past.
How Did John Finlay Meet Joe Exotic?
First, let's go through a quick recap of what went down on the show and how Finlay's story unfolded there. Tiger King shows how Finlay first crossed paths with Joe Exotic when he was hired to work at the G.W. Exotic Animal Park soon after graduating high school. Although Finlay apparently doesn't identify as gay - and continues a relationship with a woman - he wound up dating his boss (whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage). The Tiger King is still a married man.
Ever since “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” dropped on Netflix less than two weeks ago, viewers have wondered if Joe Exotic (whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage) and his fourth husband, Dillon Passage, are still together.
“We are still married,” Passage, 24, said during an exclusive interview with “Variety Live!” on Tuesday.
The 57-year-old infamous zoo owner is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of 17 counts of animal cruelty as well as conspiring to have his business nemesis Carole Baskin killed.
“I wasn’t just going to abandon him when he needed help because he was there for me,” Passage said. “I felt it was only right to stand by him and not judge him for the circumstance because I understood his relationship with Carole. It was a very negative kind of thing and he was in a dark...

Netflix's Tiger King has stirred up a lot of feelings on social media, but perhaps the biggest trend of all is the outpouring of celebration and support for disgraced big-cat breeder Joseph Maldonado-Passage, aka Joe Exotic. Although Maldonado-Passage is currently serving time in prison after being convicted of trying to put a hit out on one of his rivals, plenty of fans have taken his side and elevated him to minor celebrity status. While it's understandable why Maldonado-Passage is able to grab so much attention, it's also important to look closer and realize that this isn't the kind of person we should be celebrating.
It's easy for us to be drawn in by his showmanship, just as we see people within his circle getting sucked into his increasingly bizarre world.
In some ways, Joe Maldonado-Passage is the kind of figure tailor-made for the social media and streaming age.

As Netflix’s true-crime docuseries “Tiger King” continues to fascinate the quarantined masses nationwide, Edward Norton and Dax Shepard say they both want to play the larger-than-life huckster at the center of it all, Joe Exotic, in a biopic.
Luckily, Norton came up with a compromise we suspect people might like.
It started Wednesday, when Shepard tweeted, “If I don’t get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken.” And to be fair, when we squint we can definitely see the resemblance.
Skip ahead to Thursday however, when Norton replied to Shepard. “Um, step aside, pal. You’re way too young and buff and you know it,” the three-time Oscar nominee said.
Luckily, Norton had a compromise for Shepard: “You could probably pull off Maldonado still, actually. Wouldn’t that be fun?”...
