With American Maniacs hitting VOD on Netflix, YouTube, iTunes and more on April 24 via Phase 4 Films, star Ashlynn Yennie and filmmaker Cm Downs chatted with us regarding the gritty independent film and provided some new photos as well as an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette.
Written by Trent Haaga (Deadgirl) and directed by Downs, American Maniacs (originally titled Fetch) revolves around “a small Kansas town, where country life is anything but simple or safe (and where) the inhabitants are a volatile mix of hostile predators, violent ex-cons, meth-head strippers, perverted cops, and psychopathic murderers who raise flesh-eating dogs,” according to the official synopsis. In addition to Yennie, the film stars Shawn G. Smith (30 Days of Night: Blood Trails), Kurt Hanover and Jason Curtis Miller, among others.

"Flesheating dogs," "violent ex-cons" and "strippers!" this sounds like 28Dla's kind of neighbourhood. In Phase 4 Films' American Maniacs you get all of this and even some "psychopathic murderers." American Maniacs will release on video-on-demand January 1st and the only thing more bizarre than these plot devices is the total lack of other news on this title. The film's poster is here and an extended synopsis is available at the Phase 4 Film website. However, there are no other details available on this title outside of the film's cast. Ashlynn Yennie (Human Centipede) will star with Tamara Frapasella ("1000 Ways to Die") and that is all she wrote. If you are a fan of digital downloads, then check out this title in just a few weeks.
Tagline: "Not your average neighbours."
Release Date: January 1st, 2012 (VOD).
Cast: Ashlynn Yennie, Shawn G. Smith, and Tamara Frapasella.
*84 minute runtime.

One thing that can really make or break a horror film is the choice of music for its soundtrack, and no one is more aware of that than Fetch producer Theodore Loscalzo, who dropped us a line with a little behind-the-scenes info on the scoring process for the film along with a few clips of the types of music we can expect to hear in the finished product.
"One of the things that makes Fetch special is the music that we have been so fortunate to include in the film, says Loscalzo. "One of the greatest challenges for any production is to find and have a score and music that supports and conveys the emotions that the director is working to create! Patrick Savage and Holeg Spies (official site here) are a unique composer-duo for film from Europe."
"Patrick is a violin virtuoso and previous member of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra,...

We've been telling you guys about the indie film Fetch for about six months now, and today we get to show you a nice video taste of it as producer Ted LoScalzo of DrippingDead Films just sent over the official trailer.
LoScalzo tells us, "We have all watched way, way too many trailers, and most of them are disappointing because not only do they not hold your interest, but when you see the movie, it was all the best scenes! We have worked hard to make sure we don't repeat those mistakes. I do believe that this should help crank up the fervor for Fetch."

One indie project that we've been keeping close tabs on is Fetch, director C.M. Downs' upcoming feature that is currently shooting in Kansas, and today he sent over two new stills and an update on what's been happening since we last heard from him.
First up is a shot of Downs with actor Jason C. Miller (who portrays the character Clyde Arbuckle). Here's how Downs describes it, "I'm walking him through his final death sequence... I'm a big fan of keeping those eyes open at death. I know it's hard to tell, but the dirt floor he is laying on is actually frozen, which is why the blood is pooling around his neck and not seeping into the ground." In case you're wondering how the ground got to be frozen, Downs explains, "These guys shot through the coldest temps in 20 years of Kansas history. When I say cold, I mean Cold!

Theodore LoScalzo of DrippingDead Films sent Dread Central a fresh batch of exclusive behind-the-scenes photos for Fetch, director C.M. Downs' new feature that is currently shooting in Kansas. One look at them and all we can think of is, "Fetch us a sweater! Brrrr!"
Here's the basic plot crunch: Fetch, a terrifying story of six members of an evangelical Christian group who have been abducted in rural Kansas, was written by Trent (Deadgirl) Haaga and stars Ashlynn Yennie as Starlene Arbuckle (replacing the previously announced Christina DeRosa), Shawn G. Smith as Punch, and newcomer Krystal Heib as Christina Jenkins (originally to be portrayed by Yennie). Smith previously appeared in the "30 Days of Night: Blood Trails" TV series while Yennie will be familiar to those who have seen The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (review here).
