Spoilers
Anywho, New Jersey crime lord Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) dies. Or maybe he doesn’t. But he probably does. As Tony gathers with his family at Holsten’s for some onion rings in the final scene of the series, the tension begins to ramp up. Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” blares from the jukebox as the camera drifts across the dining room, highlighting a nondescript mobster-looking guy in a Members Only jacket. Just as Tony’s daughter Meadow begins to enter the restaurant, having conquered a parallel parking challenge, the series cuts to black. It’s all over.

James Gandolfini’s The Sopranos is often regarded as among the best TV shows ever made. The show chronicling the life and criminal career of Tony Soprano enthralled fans with its first few seasons. For six seasons, they were stuck to their TV every week waiting for new episodes to air. Gandolfini’s influential career-defining performance as Tony Soprano won him multiple Emmys.
A still from HBO’s The Sopranos
Despite the high reputation of the series, the series finale that featured the infamous cut-to-black sequence at the end divided fans. Additionally, Edie Falco who played Carmela Soprano teased that she and Gandolfini shot a Soprano-themed ad to help lure LeBron James to join the New York Knicks. The long-rumored footage has now made its way online and it is interesting, to say the least.

The Sopranos had one of the most talked-about endings of all time when the series finale ended mid-scene and fans would form closure through their own theories. The show would go down as one of HBO’s best originals, and while the Emmy-winning series officially came to a close in 2007, it was revealed that there was lost footage of James Gandolfini and Edie Falco reprising their roles as Tony and Carmela Soprano as the couple would try to convince LeBron James to come to the New York Knicks in 2010. The existence of the private video was revealed a few years ago in the docu-series podcast Shattered: Hope, Heartbreak and the New York Knicks.
The Hollywood Reporter urges you to look no further as the lost video has been found. The whole video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre. He had recently aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out...

A long-rumored video of James Gandolfini reprising his Emmy-winning role of Tony Soprano has been unearthed.
The footage (below) has Gandolfini and his co-star Edie Falco back in their roles as The Sopranos power couple Tony and Carmela.
The clip was privately produced in 2010 — three years after the HBO drama’s finale — in an effort to lure LeBron James to the New York Knicks.
The scene takes place “Two Years Later,” following the end of the show. “Yeah, life’s good here Carm, even if we are in the witness protection program,” Tony says to his wife. Then, they discussed the possibility of James moving to New York and finding him the perfect home: Madison Square Garden. The video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre and aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. The scene starts at the 9:30-minute mark.

All due respect to "Shasta McNasty," but David Chase's "The Sopranos" is easily the most important television show of the last 25 years. The series about a New Jersey mobster whose worsening anxiety, brought on by the dueling stressors of work and family, forces him into therapy was an instant pop cultural sensation when it debuted January 10, 1999 on HBO (beating Harold Ramis' similarly themed "Analyze This" to release by a mere month). After around 70 years of gangster movies and television shows, we knew these guys operated in high-pressure environments; we just never considered they might see a shrink to deal with it.
Of course, a clever concept only gets you so far, something Chase — a veteran TV writer with Primetime Emmy-nominated credits on "The Rockford Files," "I'll Fly Away" and "Northern Exposure" — clearly understood. Go back and watch the first few episodes of "The Sopranos," and you'll be amazed at...

Deadline reports that The Sopranos creator David Chase is set to reteam with Terence Winter for an untitled horror movie set up at New Line Cinema.
David Chase is expected to direct the movie, which he will also co-write alongside Terence Winter. The plot details are being kept under wraps, but given the Sopranos pedigree, my mind immediately leaps to Cleaver, the fictional movie within the HBO series produced by Christopher Moltisanti. While I doubt that Chase and Winter are going the slasher route, it’s still fun to imagine.

Chase and Winter worked together on The Sopranos, with Winter writing or co-writing 25 episodes of the series, but this will be the first time they have reunited since the series came to an end and the first movie they will have collaborated on. Jeremy Strong’s Emmy-winning tenure as Kendall Roy on HBO’s “Succession” is over, and he told The New York Times Magazine in a recent interview that “there was a moment when the show ended where I felt a profound sense of, ‘Was this the thing? Was this the event of my life?’ And then a great determination to achieve exit velocity from it so I could attempt to do more.”
That “more” is now coming into focus. Strong is currently on Broadway headlining the play “Enemy of the People” alongside Michael Imperioli and Victoria Pedretti. He’s also set to play Roy Cohn in the upcoming biographical drama “The Apprentice,” which features Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump and Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump.
Strong told the publication that “I haven’t spent much time worrying about” whether he’ll be able to distance himself from the career-defining role of Kendall Roy.

A lucky Sopranos fan shelled out over $82,000 for the booth from Tony Soprano’s last supper.
The owners of Broomfield, NJ ice cream parlor Holsten’s put the booth featured in the hit HBO series’ 2007 finale up for auction last Wednesday, as the 88-year-old shop is being remodeled. After four days on eBay, the bidding war closed at $82,600 on Monday.
The winner doesn’t just get the table and seats—for the hefty price, they receive the divider wall, which features a plaque that reads, “This booth reserved for the Soprano family.” The tabletop jukebox used in the scene is unfortunately not included.
Holsten’s announced the auction on Instagram last week, writing, “The time has come. All good things sometimes need an upgrade. The famous Sopranos booth is getting a much needed face-lift. We are auctioning off the well endeared booth on eBay starting today.”

Officially, Prime Video’s spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name. Unofficially, however, its origins are a bit murkier. Though this 2024 streaming iteration of Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares its basic premise with the previous Brad Pitt and Angelina-starring version (a married couple who also happen to be spies), the series diverges from it in some major ways as well.
In an interview with The Today Show, Glover (who also co-created the 2024 series) even admitted to not having seen the 2005 Doug Liman-directed film when he decided to embark upon the project. Co-creator Francesca Sloane wrote in an open letter to fans that “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly original.”

When they first learned that Succession would be coming to an end after just four seasons, fans of the show might have let out spittle-flecked strings of profanity worthy of Waystar Royco potentate Logan Roy.
In the end, of course, the truncated run worked out brilliantly.
Jesse Armstrong's acclaimed series about a foul-mouthed family of media bajillionaires concluded on an astonishing high note with a twist that raised the dramatic stakes, created new power dynamics, and mined the show's signature brand of dark humor for new mother lodes of comedic gold.
Few series go out on top these days, opting instead to shamble on in zombified states for several years after they've peaked.
For its risks, its eccentricity, and, of course, its brilliantly naturalistic performances -- the likes of which are seldom seen on television or anywhere else -- Succession was rewarded with almost unprecedented acclaim.

The Sopranos creator David Chase criticized streaming executives in a new interview, suggesting they’re collectively making the medium less sophisticated.
Speaking to The Times U.K., the Emmy-winning writer-producer claims TV quality is going backwards, becoming more like when he first disrupted the industry with HBO’s The Sopranos in 1999.
Chase declared his iconic hit’s 25th anniversary should be “a funeral” for the industry instead of a celebration.
“We’re going back to where I was,” he said. “They’re going to have commercials [on streamers like Prime Video].” Chase said he recently tried to get to a project made about a high-end escort and was “told to dumb it down.”
“We are more into multitasking,” he continued. “We seem to be confused and audiences can’t keep their minds on things, so we can’t make anything that makes too much sense, takes our attention and requires an audience to focus. And as for streaming executives?...

Through its six-season run, classic HBO drama The Sopranos featured several unexpected cameos from real life celebrities. These included: director Jon Favreau, actor Ben Kingsley, and most hilariously: New York Jets head coach Eric “Man-genius” Mangini.
Of all the celebrity cameos on The Sopranos, however, none hit quite as hard as actress Annette Bening’s brief appearance in the season 5 episode “The Test Dream.” Bening, who is one of the most accomplished performers of her era, kindly stopped by to film a couple of scenes for the 20-minute dream sequence that Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) experiences for much of the episode’s runtime. It’s such a bold, out of left field casting decision that even nearly 20 years later it still stands out.
Bening talked about filming the episode with The Daily Beast in 2020, saying:

As is said with JFK, no American will ever forget where they were, or what they were doing, when Tony Soprano was shot in the series finale of The Sopranos. Recall is easier in the case of Tony, as every single witness was doing exactly the same thing at the time of his assassination: getting ready to kick their TVs into a million pieces.
The strange thing is that little of the raw emotion stirred up by the finale was connected with the actual assassination of Tony Soprano. Hardly anyone flinched, raged, gasped, or wept for the terminated mafioso. Do you know why? Because hardly anyone – myself included – even knew that it had happened. Over a million witnesses to a murder, and not one of them could give a credible statement or offer reliable testimony. Now that, my friends, is the definition of a perfect mafia hit.
It begs the question,...

After a brief halt in production, AMC was able to secure “significant agreements” with the SAG-AFTRA actors union that allowed them to continue filming Interview with the Vampire season 2 during the SAG strike (which finally ended last month), keeping the show on track for its 2024 premiere. A specific premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but TV Insider has gotten their hands on a pair of images that show Sam Reid back in the role of the vampire Lestat – and it looks like these images show Lestat in two different time periods. You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
Executive producer Mark Johnson has previously said that Interview with the Vampire season 2 takes place in the 1790s, 1940s, 1970s, and 2023. TV Insider is guessing that one image shows Lestat in the 1790s, while the other shows him in the 1940s.

(Updated with Cassian Elwes statement) Green Book producer Nick Vallelonga has gone off route when it comes to paying dozens of crew members on the upcoming That’s Amore! starring John Travolta, Katherine Heigl, Christopher Walken, Talia Shire and Drea de Mateo.
According to a complaint filed in federal court in New York on Dec. 8 by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, double Oscar winner Vallelonga’s That Amore Movie LLC has reneged on an arbitration deal struck between the parties on August 18 this year to pay union members for work performed in 2022 on the upcoming rom-com. The 77 IATSE members specifically affected performed the duties of “cinematographer, camera operator, camera assistant, editor, costume designer, wardrobe supervisor, hair and make-up stylists, production designer, art director, scenic artist, electrician, grip, construction, script supervisor, production coordinator, and accountant,” says the Matt Loeb-led union in the eight-page filing.

After 9/11, the world of American film and television was never quite the same again. There were the obvious changes, like the gritty new Bond, the hardened Jason Bourne films and a new seriousness in disaster films. But behind the scenes, hundreds of smaller, subtler changes took place, including the unglamorous job of removing references to the Twin Towers across a variety of media. Dustin Waldman expertly takes us into the world of post-production editing, focusing on one man’s surprisingly emotionally-charged decision whether or not to scrub the buildings from the opening credits of The Sopranos. Using close-ups, ambient music and powerful, nuanced performances, Never Fuggedaboutit immerses you in the details, providing a strangely touching mixture of patriotism, compromise and humour. Ahead of today’s premiere, we talked to Waldman about why Tony Soprano is a uniquely American character, sourcing vintage equipment off eBay, his own experience working as an...

LGBTQ+ rights champion Michael Imperioli, who over the weekend “forbid bigots and homophobes from watching” his work in the wake of the Supreme Court siding with a Colorado designer who allegedly refused to make a website for a gay wedding, is clarifying his position.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, the Sopranos and White Lotus vet on Saturday reacted to Friday’s 6-3 ruling by enacting the aforementioned ban. “I’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in,” he declared. “Thank you Supreme Court...

Christopher Storer’s saga of a restaurant family wears its love for Chicago on its au-jus-stained sleeves. The Bear’s second season takes every conceivable opportunity to bridge scenes with montages of the Windy City’s architectural glory and charmingly aged infrastructure. It also drops in quotes from The Blues Brothers and, in its deftest homage to America’s third-largest metropolis, a decent portion of its score from Michael Mann’s Thief.
There’s more than a tinge of underdog defiance to The Bear’s Chicago pride—implicitly directed, as such pride so often is, eastward. “This is way better than New York,” a fine-dining customer is pointedly overheard saying in the season’s seventh episode, “Forks.” The show’s overarching story, after all, concerns a high-end chef, Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), who’s relocated from the Big Apple to his native Chicago. At times, the propagandizing threatens to be a bit much,...

Palehound go full Tony Soprano in the video for “My Evil,” reenacting the show’s iconic opening credits sequence. They drive while chomping on a cigar, stop at the NJ Turnpike turnstile for a ticket (do those even exist anymore?), drive past Pizzaland, and even dine at Holsten’s, the restaurant the Sopranos visit in the final scene of the series. The video ends in the driveway that served as the Sopranos’ home on the show. Throughout, the artist, whose real name is El Kempner and who uses they/them pronouns,...

Chris Pratt went too pulp-y for his first try at the Mario voice.
The “Super Mario Bros. Movie” actor revealed that he was told his take on a stereotypical Italian-American voice bordered on a “Sopranos” parody.
“For a minute, I walked in and they were like, ‘That’s a little New Jersey. You’re doing a Tony Soprano thing,'” Pratt told Entertainment Weekly.
He continued, “It was a really exciting and daunting challenge. Talking to these guys, they say, ‘You wanna do the Mario movie?’ I think both of us said yes. Didn’t even ask, ‘What’s the deal? What’s the story?’ ‘Yes, I’m in.’ And then we had to really dig in and figure out, Are they Italian? Are they American? This episode contains major spoilers for "Succession" season 4 episode 2.
In the latest episode of "Succession" season 4, "The Rehearsal," love was not in the air. Connor (Alan Ruck) and Willa's (Justine Lupe) rehearsal ended with the premature departure of the bride-to-be. Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) are still on the road to divorce too.
Shiv made it official in the season 4 premiere, "The Munsters," but divorce was the only way the Roy-Wambsgans marriage was ever going to end. Back in season 1, Shiv tried to pressure Tom into an open marriage. In the season 2 finale, "This Is Not For Tears," Tom pondered to Shiv, "I wonder if the sad I'd be without you would be less than the sad I get from being with you." In the 25-odd years that HBO has been serious about producing original programming, the pay cable giant has given us some of the greatest comedies and dramas television has ever seen. Succession, in whatever genre box you choose to place it — and I think of it more as a dark comedy with pathos than a drama with jokes — has certainly earned its place in that pantheon. But as it begins its fourth and final season this weekend, it has a chance to do something that very few HBO shows have before it.

After more than a year, the Flenory family is back on TV and the cast behind Starz’s “Bmf” tease there’s much more in store for fans to find.
The theme for the coming season is “elevate,” executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson told an audience at the Season 2 premiere at the Tcl Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Thursday night.
That elevation seems to have taken shape on and off the screen, as even Jackson seems to have changed his previous tune about Starz. After announcing his departure from the premium cabler last September and signing a new deal with Lusid Media the following month, Jackson announced he has several new projects dealing with the “Bmf” franchise in the works at Starz.

The Japanese word ‘tsundoku’, beloved by book nerds, refers to the pile of unread books next to your bed or by the sofa, which rises steadily with each new optimistic purchase. There must be an equivalent for the mental stack of TV and film titles we each carry around inside our heads, made longer with every ‘oh-my-god-you-have-to-watch’ recommendation and inconveniently positive review.

Daredevil: Born Again is taking shape at Disney+.
The highly anticipated revival has cast Michael Gandolfini, Deadline reports.
Gandolfini is best known for playing young Tony Soprano in the Sopranos prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark.
Details remain scarce about Born Again, a revival of the hit Netflix series starring Charlie Cox, so there is no telling who Gandolfini will portray at this stage.
Cox played Matt Murdock on the Netflix series, a role he has reprised several times since.
Most recently, he suited up as the superhero on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Vincent D'Onofrio is also returning as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
The actor reprised the role on the Disney+ series Hawkeye last year.
The Daredevil revival was ordered to series earlier this year and is being written and executive-produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord (Covert Affairs).
The Netflix series was canceled alongside The Punisher, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones.

Where were you when the screen went black on Tony Soprano more than 15 years ago? Those that followed The Sopranos through every whack, therapy session and whatever Paulie Walnuts was fired up about that week were stunned when the series finale, “Made in America”, cut to black in June 2007, leaving us all to wonder, What happened to Tony Soprano?
In a new interview, Sopranos producer and writer Terence Winter gave his own interpretation. “I always thought that if he didn’t die that night, certainly, that’s kind of his legacy. At some point in this guy’s life, somebody’s going to come out of a bathroom or a doorway and it’s going to be over. That’s the message that I took away. When you live that life, and when you’re Tony Soprano, even going out for ice cream with your family is fraught with danger.

I think we can all agree that "The Sopranos" is one of the best television series of all time — cast and crew included. Everyone that worked on the show loved it from the very beginning. It had a much more cinematic edge than other shows on television at the time, giving it a unique and undeniable flair. The show was so good that it had no equal, so there was no telling whether or not it would be a hit. In fact, some people on the production team thought that the show was so excellent that it would fly over the audience's heads. It was so fun to make and had so much promise that the series creators worried it might be too good to last. Luckily, they couldn't have been more wrong.

Before starring on HBO's hit prestige drama "The Sopranos," Steven Van Zandt's claim to fame was as a solo artist, hit songwriter, activist, and member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. He scored the memorable role of the wingtip-wearing consigliere Silvio Dante on "The Sopranos" despite no acting experience. As advisor to crime boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), Van Zandt's Dante is more than a wise guy caricature; Silvio is among the most level-headed members of Tony's crew, mediating meetings and executing orders but unafraid to tell his boss the truth (which Van Zandt compared to working with The Boss). In Brett Martin's "The Sopranos: The Complete Book," Van Zandt describes Tony's lifelong friend as "the only member of the family who was happy where he was" with few ambitions beyond those in his backstory – a background created by Van Zandt himself.

Another Sopranos reunion is in the works, as Michael Imperioli and David Chase are supposedly writing a script together.
On a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Michael Imperioli–who played Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos–revealed that he and The Sopranos creator David Chase have a project in development. “We’re writing a movie together right now for me and Steve Schirripa. It’s a mystery project. I can’t talk about it beyond that.” We can only assume that Imperioli fears being whacked by Chase’s friends in waste management if he spoils the outline.
With Imperioli, Chase and Schirripa (who played Tony Soprano’s train-loving brother-in-law Bobby Baccalieri) tied to the project, speculation on another Sopranos movie is unavoidable. David Chase previously said, “I have an idea for [a second Sopranos movie] that I’d like to do.” Could this “mystery project” be that movie?

Michael Imperioli has announced he’s co-writing a film with his old boss, The Sopranos creator David Chase.
Imperioli appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (27 October) to promote season two of the HBO series The White Lotus. That’s when he made first mention of the duo’s “mystery project”.
He also offered that Sopranos star Steve Schirripa, with whom he hosts the podcast Talking Sopranos, is taking part.
But that’s all Imperioli was willing to divulge.
“Yeah, we’re writing a movie together right now for me and Steve Schirripa. It’s a mystery project,” he said, projecting vagueness. “I can’t talk about it beyond that.”
Later he said: “David and I are writing it together. I can’t say what it’s about. But when it comes out, I’m gonna come here before anybody. I’m gonna come here and talk about it.

There's no question that the late Tony Sirico gave an inspired performance as Paulie on "The Sopranos," but did you know the role was actually based on the actor? Sirico originally auditioned for a different part, but series creator David Chase felt that he wasn't the right fit for the role. Still, the actor made such an impression that Chase wrote an entirely new character just for him. Since Sirico himself inspired Paulie, the character was crafted in his image.
Sirico initially auditioned for Uncle Junior, a part that eventually went to Dominic Chianese. When Chase called Sirico to reject him, he reassured the actor that he would still find a place for him on "The Sopranos." Sirico remembered Chase telling him, "'I've got something in mind for you. I want you on the show. I haven't decided what you're gonna do or who you're gonna be,'" the actor recalled on Today.

AMC is working to build a franchise out of the books and characters from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, so it’s not too surprising to hear that they’ve already ordered season 2 of Interview with the Vampire, which doesn’t begin airing until October 2nd – although I was hoping we’d be getting mini-series adaptations of each book in the series, rather than an ongoing Interview with the Vampire series.
Variety has confirmed that Interview with the Vampire season 2 will consist of eight episodes and will take place in Europe.
AMC’s Dan McDermott provided the following statement: “The scope and breadth of this show, and what Mark and Rolin have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud. From the set build, to production design, costumes and more — no detail was overlooked.

Sometimes great movies and TV shows have the most unlikely sources of inspiration. Nick Park and Aardman Animations' masterpiece "Chicken Run" was based on John Sturges' classic Pow adventure "The Great Escape," while "Logan" director James Mangold pitched the film as "'Little Miss Sunshine" with Wolverine and Charles Xavier (via Empire). When it came time to screen episodes of his iconic and wildly influential HBO series "The Sopranos" at the Museum of Modern Art, creator David Chase paired it with an unlikely inspiration: the 1940 Laurel and Hardy classic "Saps at Sea."
You might think that "Goodfellas" or "Public Enemy" or "Carlito's Way" might have been a more appropriate pick, but Chase has a good explanation for his choice (via Vanity Fair):
"I really like comedy. There's always a choice, when you're writing: you can either go for the joke or you can go for the story, the important stuff.

Upon the end of HBO drama "The Sopranos," with the falsetto notes of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" still hanging in the air, executive producer and writer Terence Winter was searching for his next project. The massively popular mafia-centric show had concluded at the top of the TV heap, even called "the greatest pop-culture masterpiece of its day" by Peter Biskind. Its complicated leading man Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) was more than the head of an organized criminal clan; he was a husband and a father living in the suburbs, complexities "The Sopranos" explored thoroughly over its six seasons.
Already an Emmy Award-winner for his work on "The Sopranos," Winter was quickly hired by HBO to develop a new series that would fit right in among the network's showy big-budget genre pieces like "Game of Thrones." Upon reading Nelson Johnson's 2002 book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City,...

For the 20th anniversary of "The Sopranos," creator David Chase talked about the times he clashed with HBO. The network did not like the title "The Sopranos" because it caused some confusion over what kind of show it would be, but what troubled them the most was the fifth episode in the first season, "College," which critics now regard as one of the greatest in both the series and television history. While taking Meadow on college tours, Tony spots a rat who entered witness protection, Fabian "Febby" Petrulio, and brutally strangles him. "College" is a crucial narrative turning point because it is the first time the audience witnesses Tony kill someone. Chase describes HBO's initial reaction to the scene:
"I got a call from Chris Albrecht, who ran HBO, screaming about, 'How could you do this?! You've created one of the most dynamic characters of the past 20 years, and you're just going to ruin him.

Tony Sirico had a couple of firm rules when it came to his beloved Sopranos character, and he would not compromise. In fact, he was so upset over one word in a script for the HBO classic series that he lobbied for a rare script change.
The fan-favorite actor died Friday. He was 79.
Sirico starred in The Sopranos as “Paulie Walnuts” Gualtieri, a New Jersey gangster who was as deadly as he was cheap and obnoxious.
On their former popular podcast Talking Sopranos, hosts and show alums Steve Schirripa and Michael Imperioli once talked about Sirico taking issue with a reference to Paulie in season one, episode 11, “Nobody Knows Anything.”
“One of the only times an actor influenced a change in the script, and it wasn’t even their line,” Imperioli began, setting up the moment. “Makazian [John Heard] didn’t like Paulie.
