Dark Horse Comics closed out the 2013 C2E2 by announcing five more upcoming projects that should be of interest to genre fans, in particular Witch Hunt, The Occultist, and Itty Bitty Hellboy.
Witch Hunt comes to us from Victor Gischler and Juan Ferreyra while The Occultist heralds the return of Tim Seeley. Itty Bitty Hellboy is by Eisner winners Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani, and Donny Cates and Mark Reznicek's Buzzkill promises lots of boozin' and bruisin'. Looks like we weren't quite on the right track as to what Dark Horse Comics' Teaser #1 was all about yesterday, but with the release of #2 today, all has been made clear: It involves Paul Tobin's horror-crime comic Colder. Check it out!
Back in April we got the first word on Colder, which is from the creative team behind the successful Falling Skies comic, writer Paul Tobin (Marvel Adventures: Fantastic Four, Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man) and artist Juan Ferreyra (Rex Mundi).
“Horror and mystery are two things that have always fascinated me, and I wanted to bring those elements together in a story woven around what I consider one of my strongest tools as a writer, which is character. One facet of horror that I really wanted to explore is how the tension of horror is at its peak when it’s still a mystery. But... what if we had a...

A bit more actual comics news has come out of the San Diego Comic-Con as Idw Publishing announced it is teaming up with writers Zane and Brea Grant (We Will Bury You, Suicide Girls) and artist EricJ (Rex Mundi, Fly) for their new creator-owned miniseries Let's Play God, coming this October.
From the Press Release:
When a mysterious killer begins targeting members of a fierce all-girl punk rock band, our hero Mel must face a dark, dangerous world of blood and evil to find the killer and save her own life!
“It’s like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the Pacific Northwest... but cooler,” Brea Grant said.
In the style of Italian slasher psycho-horror, Let’S Play God combines a punk spirit and kinetic art with a chilling storyline, promising a truly unique four-issue miniseries. After witnessing a murder, Mel finds her and her bandmates have now become targets of the killer.

Disney has dropped the adaptation of "Oblivion," Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski's illustrated novel. According to Variety, Kosinski and Radical Publishing will shop the project to other studios and producers. "Oblivion" was being developed under the title Horizons. Disney had picked this up from Kosinski last August just after the book debuted at Comic-Con. The book is set in a future in which the Earth's surface has been severely irradiated. Survivors live above the clouds, safe from the alien Scavengers below. After a surface-drone repair man called Jak finds a mysterious woman in a pod which has crash-landed, the discovery sets of a chain of events, making him question all he knows. Disney has decided not to go ahead with planned sci-fi film Horizons, which was to have been directed by Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski and was formerly called Oblivion.
It comes as something of a surprise because earlier this month, scribe Karl Gajdusek (TV series Dead Like Me) was hired to rework the screenplay by William Monahan (Departed, Kingdom of Heaven).
The script is based on an upcoming graphic novel created by Kosinski, penned by Rex Mundi, illustrated by Andree Wallin and set to be released by Radical Publishing.
The book was picked up by Disney after being previewed at Comic-Con last summer and will be on shelves in July.
Variety reports that Disney has put the project "into turnaround" - industry jargon meaning Kosinski and Radical can offer it to other studios - with The Hollywood Reporter saying the $150m-plus budget was too high for executives.

Although it had been set up for a script from Oscar winner William Monaghan and seemed to be moving along in development, Variety is now reporting that Disney has given the axe to the film version of Joseph Kosinski‘s upcoming graphic novel, Oblivion.
Thought to be re-titled Horizons, Disney picked up the Tron: Legacy director’s book after it was well-received at Comic Con this past summer, and development on the movie was moving pretty fast. Created by Kosinski, written by Rex Mundi and illustrated by Andree Wallin, the book is still set for a release on July 12th (pre-order it here).
Regardless, if a movie gets made, it will be under a different studio. The team will probably begin looking for someone else to make the film shortly. THR says that the drop was given because of the high budget, and that them allowing the director to take it to other studios,...

I’m writing my inaugural Dread Central blog right after seeing the remake of Friday the 13th, which has stirred my love of the horror genre in unpredicted ways. I’m not committed to the whole slasher genre, even though when the original F13 came to cable I was about thirteen myself, which I still think of as the perfect age for that stuff.

Crude though their art was, the filmmakers knew to hold back enough to keep things scary.
