There’s a lot going on in Paashbalish. Helmed by Korok Murmu, the Zee5 Global’s show centers on a man who’s looking for his lost childhood love. At the same time, a never-ending rivalry between two groups of people is causing unnecessary violence. There are several other subplots, all of which come together by the end. But does this whole mashup actually work out? Let us get into that.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens in the series?
Chandu is an orphan who lives in the police station in Pathorkuchi. He’s timid and most likely on the spectrum, but that doesn’t stop him from living his life as best as possible. It’s not much, other than tending his two pets—a rooster and a female dog—cooking food during the festivities and also some singing. However, Chandu has one major reason to live for, which happens to be Anchal.

Childhood sweethearts reunite in Zee5 Global’s Paashbalish in the midst of a huge feud between two clans. Directed by Korok Murmu, Paashbalish is not your usual Bengali web series, as it has a much more layered story. In this article, we’re going to take a look at its ending, which didn’t quite sit right with me.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens at the End?
Before we go into that, let us summarize things a little bit. Set in Cooch Behar’s Pathorkuchi, Paashbalish is the story of Chandu, aka Babla, an orphan who grew up in the local police station. When he was a teenager, Babla got separated from his childhood crush Mampi, who eventually got adopted by local political leader and businessman Mahadev Mallik and grew up as his daughter Anchal. In the present day, Anchal is a journalist doing a story on the local drug peddling.

After his first two features, the thriller “Fatal” and the drama “Entangled”, Korean director Lee Don-ku continues with a blend of both genres titled “Fanfare”. The movie already received critical acclaim and managed to entertain audiences at lat year's Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival as well as Seoul Independent Film Festival, a success it truly deserves given its many qualities. The director again proves his skill at using a minimalist setting to full effect, telling a story about loyalty, betrayal and deception in a style reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino's “Reservoir Dogs” and the gangster cinema of British filmmaker Guy Ritchie.
“Fanfare” is available from Echelon Studios
