Say what you will of "Star Wars," but you can't deny the franchise is great with thematically-consistent visual choices. When a Force user is meant to be bad, they've got a red lightsaber and they're dressed up in scary dark clothing. When the character's meant to be good, they've got a blue/green lightsaber and they're wearing friendly light clothing (with exceptions like Luke Skywalker at the start of "Return of the Jedi"). It's perhaps a little too simple, but it was a great idea on creator George Lucas's part to come up with a type of futuristic sword that straight-up tells you what sort of person its owner is. Talk about taking visual shorthand to the next level.
Outside of clothing and choice of weapon, "Star Wars" is also quick to use appearances to indicate morality. The morally righteous Leia is conventionally attractive, whereas the evil Palpatine has yellow eyes and wrinkly skin.

Well, Han Solo and Princess Leia had a jedi child in Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, so what about Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker?
The next Star Wars movie from filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, will see the further adventures of Rey post the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one reported string being that the character starts up a Jedi Academy.
Catching up with Ridley at Deadline’s SXSW studio, the actress tells us, “I would say she probably doesn’t have children seeing she’s a Jedi.” We’ll, ya never know. Star Wars canon does change from time to time.
In regards to what she’s heard on the new film, which won’t come until after 2026’s Jon Favreau directed Mandalorian and Grogu Star Wars movie: “Literally what I know is what was announced last year, I’m waiting to read a script.

Much can be said about "Star Wars" but if there is one thing that it contributed to the greater landscape of cinema, it's a legacy of advancing on-screen visual effects. From the very beginning, George Lucas and the team at Industrial Light and Magic managed to do things that nobody could have imagined were possible beforehand. To this day, Lucasfilm continues that tradition under the Disney umbrella, with shows like "The Mandalorian" continuing to break new ground with VFX. But it was the sequel trilogy that showed what modern "Star Wars" could truly look like with the might of Disney backing these productions.
Beginning with "The Force Awakens," these massive-scale blockbusters represented much of what this franchise had been in the past, as well as what it could be in the future. But what goes into making a lightsaber look real? How do you bring a Porg to life? How...

Times were tough for Chewbacca in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy. First, he watched helplessly as his decades-long pal Han Solo got impaled by a lightsaber, then his longtime friend Luke died after years of exile, and then his other friend Leia died not long after. To make things worse, Chewie was also accidentally blown up in a spaceship in "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker." Well, not really, but it sure looked like it at the time.
The reveal that Chewbacca hadn't died was a happy moment, but it wasn't for long. Our furry friend was subsequently taken prisoner by the villainous First Order and had to contend with Han and Leia's angry, wrathful son, Kylo Ren. Not a ton happens between the two in the finished version of "Rise of Skywalker," but there was a...

Daisy Ridley returned to the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast amid the release of her latest indie film, “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” and looked back at the divisive response to her final “Star Wars” movie, 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” The movie, along with its predecessor “The Last Jedi,” generated outrage from fans due to creative decisions that many felt went against the spirit of the franchise.
“It’s still upsetting,” Ridley said now when asked about the response. “You don’t want people to feel like you’ve not served the thing they’re a fan of. But [‘The Last Jedi’] was so divisive…it felt like the first one everyone was responsive in the same way. The second, super divisive. The last one, super divisive. It didn’t change how I felt about it.”

A long time ago, in a movie theater not too far away… a series of films came out that captured the imagination of movie fans everywhere. The Star Wars franchise has been a giant among the most loved movies ever made. The original trilogy has been held up as sacred. When it came time for the Prequels, original fans were a little let down, but young fans embraced them. They have finally aged into their place in Star Wars canon.
When Lucasfilm was sold to Disney for a staggering $4.5 billion, fans knew it was only a matter of time before we finally got some films with some of our favorite characters returning to the big screen. The first two divided audiences, but the third may have been the one that really made fans wonder what was happening behind the scenes. There didn’t seem to be a plan for the new films,...

With Daisy Ridley set to return to the “Star Wars” franchise as Rey in a new film set after the events of 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” many fans are wondering whether or not the actor’s co-stars might also book a return trip to a galaxy far, far away. John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe were alive by the end of that film, making their potential returns a possibility, whereas Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren/Ben Solo died a hero. Of course, characters often come back from the dead in “Star Wars” — but don’t bank on Kylo Ren being one of them.
“They’re doing stuff, but not with me,” Driver said during a recent appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast. “I’m not doing any more.”
“You’re done because the character’s done?” podcast co-host Sean Haynes asked as a follow-up question, to which Driver responded: “Yes.

The ‘Star Wars’ universe has been expanding exponentially over the past decade or so, with numerous shows, animated series, and even a ton of new movies. The sequel trilogy was a success, and the fans quickly fell in love with Kylo Ren – one of the main antagonists of the trilogy, portrayed by the talented Adam Driver.
Eventually, Kylo Ren turned back to the Light Side and became Ben Solo again, sacrificing himself for the greater good. As it usually happens in ‘Star Wars,’ fans were hoping that the death wasn’t permanent. Well, if we were to listen to Driver’s recent statements, it seems that a potential return of Kylo Ren is not in the books.

Four years on, we’re still learning new things about The Rise of Skywalker and the behind the scenes decisions that led to the highly divisive final chapter of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. For some, Episode IX was a return to form for the franchise, while for others, it paled in comparison to what came before, particularly the equally divisive The Last Jedi, because it chose to play the hits instead of saying anything new about characters or their world.
In particular, there are still fans out there debating the movie’s most controversial and surprising arc — Kylo Ren’s return to the light side, shedding his Supreme Leader guise and becoming Ben Solo once again, and the infamous kiss with Daisy Ridley’s Rey that followed. Adam Driver is revealing that Kylo Ren’s arc in the Star Wars sequel trilogy was originally very different from what made the final cut!
The 40-year-old actor appeared in 2015′s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, 2017′s Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, and 2019′s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker as the villainous Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo.
During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Adam revealed that director J.J. Abrams changed his character arc from its original plan.

“I had an overall arc that in mind that [Abrams] wanted to do,” the Ferrari star said. “His idea was that [Kylo’s] journey was the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident and the most committed to the dark side. And then by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak. He wanted to start with the opposite.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have set the stage for a new trilogy, but it’s no secret that the subsequent sequels didn’t follow through on the original plan. Adam Driver spoke on The Rich Eisen Show and revealed that his arc as Kylo Ren was majorly changed over the course of the sequel trilogy.

Driver has been discussing how how Kylo Ren’s character arc across the sequel trilogy was very different from the one he signed up for.
It’s been four years since the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the rather unloved end to a nine-film arc of Star Wars films that stretches all the way back to 1977. Whilst it was great to see such a long-running franchise get an ending (something we don’t always get with other long-running series such as the MCU or 007) it was a shame that the ending was, well, pretty terrible.
Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren was a key part of the film’s ensemble and whilst out promoting Michael Mann’s Ferrari, he made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show where he chatted about the process of playing Ren over the three films. Like much of the audience, it seems that he...

Adam Driver is opening up about how his character on Star Wars: The Force Awakens evolved over time.
The actor who played Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy revealed that the villain was not originally supposed to redeem himself in the end.

Adam Driver revealed on “The Rich Eisen Show” that his arc as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars” completed changed from its original plan over the course of his three films: “The Force Awakens” (2015), “The Last Jedi” (2017) and “The Rise of Skywalker” (2019). According to the actor, Kylo Ren was never supposed to soften up and be redeemed as Ben Solo. In fact, the original plan for the character was apparently just the opposite. Kyle Ren was supposed to become more evil during the trilogy, not a conflicted anti-hero.

Adam Driver is done with your “Star Wars” complaints.
As the host of the Dec. 9 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” he performed his monologue while playing the piano and reciting a letter of Christmas wishes to Santa.
“I would like people to stop coming up to me on the street saying, ‘You killed Han Solo!’,” he said. “I didn’t kill him. Wokeness killed Han Solo.”
The joke is a reference to his role as villain Kylo Ren in the “Star Wars” films “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker.” Kylo kills Han Solo in “The Force Awakens,” a widely controversial storyline among the “Star Wars” fandom.
He began the Christmas list saying, “Hey, Santa. It’s me, Adam Driver, from the nice list. And also ‘Girls.’ I turned 40 this year, Santa, so I would like five pairs of chinos. I also want one of those giant metal Tesla trucks.

It’s been almost a decade since Kylo Ren killed his father, Han Solo, in the dramatic twist ending of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” But Adam Driver still hasn’t lived down that scene with Harrison Ford, telling Chris Wallace in a new interview, “Somebody reminds me about that every day.”
After Wallace responded, “Are you serious?,” Driver said, “Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more but now it’s probably once a month someone will let me know that I killed Han Solo.”
While Driver said filming the scene itself didn’t feel “tough,” it was nonetheless “very emotional shooting it with Harrison.”
“Harrison was so generous and contemplative, and to me that was a great moment on set, even though it was his death,” the actor said on Wallace’s Max series “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.”

Moments before the climactic duel of 2017's "Star Wars: Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi," Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) arrives in a cave that's holding the last vestiges of the Resistance. Their leader, his sister Leia (Carrie Fisher), is among them, and Luke gives her a gift that goes unexplained: a set of gold-plated dice with unique symbols on them. In a moment heavy with the weight of final farewells, this little grace note, as well as Luke's line that "no one's ever really gone," shines particularly bright.
Luke leaves Leia, sacrificing himself to give the Resistance enough time to flee the planet of Crait. His plan, to distract his villainous nephew (and Leia's son) Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), proves successful -- a vast array of laser beams can't kill him, and neither can Kylo's lightsaber. As it turns out, this Luke isn't really there. He's been using the...

Although the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy isn't particularly beloved these days, there was once a time when it seemed like Disney knew what it was doing. When "The Force Awakens" first came out the reaction was largely positive; while most agreed it was a little too similar to "A New Hope," it still felt fresh and confident in a way that implied more ambitious storylines to come. "The Last Jedi" would take those big swings, for better or worse, but "The Force Awakens" was more content to remain a fun, safe adventure story.
There was one big risk the movie took, however: The decision to kill off fan-favorite Han Solo. To have him die at the hands of his own son was a lot to deal with, and the backlash was definitely a concern for the creatives involved. "It was the scene that, I think, terrified me the most," Adam Driver...

Writer and director Rian Johnson expanded upon the powers of the Force a little bit in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," creating a new kind of Force connection that allowed for communication across long distances. Sure, Force users had previously been able to sense one another, like Darth Vader sensing that Luke was on a particular nearby ship or Obi-Wan feeling the cataclysmic loss of the destruction of Alderaan, but in "The Last Jedi" some of them are able to "see" and talk with each other across the vastness of space. Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) have this kind of interspace telephone linked between their minds that we later learn is courtesy of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), and it allows them to have some rather charged moments together even though they're so far apart.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 3 — "Time to Fly"
Last week, the first two episodes of "Ahsoka" did a relatively good job of setting the stage for what could potentially be one of the most epic confrontations in all of "Star Wars." Hopefully, it was a good introduction for fans who didn't necessarily have the time or the interest to watch four seasons of the animated series "Star Wars Rebels" just to get acquainted with characters new to live-action like Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
It's a lot of backstory that essentially pits Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) against a small group of Dark Side users who have the key to unlocking the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is largely considered to be the greatest villain in all of "Star Wars" next to Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. There's also a...

Who amongst us hasn't had a pretend lightsaber fight where we swing around fake versions of the iconic laser sword, all the while providing our own whooshing and whizzing sound effects? Even certain "Star Wars" actors can't always resist making the instantly recognizable noises of a lightsaber during rehearsal. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster, these elegant weapons for "a more civilized age" (to quote Obi-Wan Kenobi) are incredibly deadly ... sometimes. Other times, getting sliced with a lightsaber comes across as little more than an inconvenience on par with the world's worst paper cut.
Lightsaber-related injuries have certainly come a long way over the course of the history of the "Star Wars" franchise. Back in 1977's "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope," the criminal Dr. Cornelius Evazan and his Aqualish buddy Ponda Baba learned the hard way not to tangle with a Jedi.

Of all the missed opportunities in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, Finn's character arc (or lack thereof) probably stings the most. He was introduced in "The Force Awakens" as the co-protagonist, someone who'd not only be sharing equal screen time with Rey (Daisy Ridley), but who would likely end up going down the Jedi path himself.
As early as "The Last Jedi," however, it became clear that the series didn't really know what to do with him. Rey and Kylo were getting the meaty storylines that took up most of the film's attention; Finn was off on go-nowhere escapades with newcomer Rose. "Rise of Skywalker" was even worse, as poor Finn was left with little more to do except scream Rey's name a bunch of times. The movie establishes that he's force positive, which could've been interesting if not for the fact that this was the last entry in the series,...

"Star Wars" is full of memorable and instantly recognizable villains. As relatable as the heroes are, it is the villains who often steal the show. Whether it's a Sith like Darth Vader or Darth Maul, or even a non-Force user like Boba Fett or Captain Phasma. Indeed, there is no shortage of great villains with distinct personalities in the "Star Wars" galaxy.
Then there's Moff Gideon, the main antagonist of the three seasons of "The Mandalorian" to date. When we first meet him, he is a combination of Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn, a calculating but not entirely cold and detached Imperial officer who is ruthless, ambitious, and fairly successful in his work. He is also a psycho who wants to hurt Baby Yoda.
But after being defeated twice in the first two seasons, Gideon returned for the season three finale of "The Mandalorian," where he tried to...

This post contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 7 of "The Mandalorian," "The Spies."
After last week's languid, lighthearted episode in the latest season of "The Mandalorian," we have been treated to an extremely high-stakes penultimate episode meant to gear us toward an explosive finale. Delivering a cold open that strengthens the show's connections with the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, Rick Famuyiwa's "The Spies" does not waste any time in setting up multiple future storylines in an attempt to fill in the gaps or fleshing out the canon.
We finally see Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in the flesh after being teased about his return for six episodes, and the big baddie is busy conversing with the Imperial Shadow Council, who are working overtime to reinstate the Empire covertly. We see Admiral Pellaeon (Steve Pemberton), who has a direct connection to Grand Admiral Thrawn, along with Commandant Hux (Brian Gleeson), known to...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" Chapter 23 - "The Spies."
At the beginning of the newest episode of "The Mandalorian," Moff Gideon addresses the Imperial Shadow Council with a demand and a request. He demands they consider new leadership, and requests reinforcements. It's not so curious that he's asked for more squadrons of Tie Interceptors, especially since we watched Lady Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin make short work of them in an episode earlier this season. But it is curious that he asks for bodyguards in the form of Praetorian Guards. We've heard that name before, but never this early in the timeline -- and it doesn't bode well for our Mandalorian heroes.
Rian Johnson And The Praetorian Guard
The Praetorian Guard originated in Rian Johnson's masterpiece of a Star Wars movie, "The Last Jedi," and he designed them to be lethal. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson...

We need to talk about Ben Solo, once again. Starting with "The Force Awakens," Kylo Ren has been a controversial adversary in the sequel trilogy of "Star Wars." A servant of the First Order, Ben Solo (Adam Driver) was the brooding, patricidal son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and a fanboy of his grandpa Darth Vader. Depending on certain points of view, he was either a sad boy deserving of redemption or a brat who never received any grace. But even at his worst, Kylo Ren had an allure that couldn't be denied.
However you feel about Kylo Ren, things are about to get more controversial. The 2023 Star Wars Celebration announced an upcoming untitled "Star Wars" movie directed by "Ms. Marvel" Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. It's set 15 years after "Rise of Skywalker," with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey Skywalker to train the new Jedi generation. Whether or not Ben will explicitly be brought up,...

This week’s sixth episode of Peacock’s Bel-Air was all about Will navigating his feelings about his best friend Trey, and new friend Lisa.
Will’s decision to stay in Los Angeles instead of returning to Philly didn’t sit well with any his friends from back home, and they branded him as a traitor all over social media. Upset and angry, Will brushed off Aunt Viv’s attempts to console him and even broke a vase during a tantrum — a move that prompted Uncle Phil to remind him that he’s not the only one going through something.
