Greetings from Variety Awards Headquarters! Today is June 20, 2022, which means it’s now 7 days until Emmy nomination round voting ends on June 27. From there, it’s 22 days until Emmy nominations are announced on July 12; then 53 days until final round voting begins on August 12, followed by 69 days until final round voting ends on August 22. Then comes the finales: It’s 75 days until the Creative Arts Emmys kicks off its two-night event on September 3; and then it’s 84 days until the 74th Emmy Awards takes place, live on NBC, September 12.
Let’s begin today by recognizing Juneteenth, now a national holiday and an opportunity to reflect on the history of the Black community in America and not just sweep it under the rug, like so many are trying to do by deriding history as “critical race theory,” and trying to stop schools and educators from exploring the truth of systemic racism in...

The Vicious Brothers made a name for themselves with their ghosthouse gone completely crazed film Grave Encounters, and now the duo are ready to move on to different kinds of unearthly beings. Read on for the first word on The Visitors.
According to Deadline, Freddie Stroma (pictured) will star in The Visitors, the indie feature written and to be directed by The Vicious Brothers. The film is said to be a dark and edgy sci-fi thriller that revolves around a group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods. There, they are terrorized by alien visitors who definitely have not come in peace.
Randy Manis, Kim Arnott, Shawn Angelski, and Martin Fisher are producing; and filming is set to start up at the end of June. Stroma most recently was seen in Pitch Perfect, and up next is The Philosophers alongside James D’Arcy and Rhys Wakefield.

So, Day Five of Toronto After Dark 2012 is officially wrapped, which means we are now a little past the halfway point of the festival. Part of me always gets sad when this happens, but the other part just reminds that part that there are still four more days of fun and movies ahead, and then I cheer up. Anyhow, tonight was dubbed “Scary Night” because both features that played fit pretty solidly into the horror genre, so I put on my Ghostbusters tee and headed out to watch some films with ghosts and mutant children!
The night kicked off with a short titled, Annie and the Dog, which was a solid tale of a priest and a policeman headed to an exorcism. It was well-made and had a lot of humor included; even though it eventually headed into darker territory. If you get the chance, you should seek it out,...

The “found footage” genre has been exploding ever since the international break-out hit [Rec] and has fully established itself as a profitable genre, thanks to the grassroots success of Paranormal Activity. But do you want something actually scary? Try Grave Encounters (review here). The terrifying debut from the Canadian directing duo of The Vicious Brothers made a splash at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is headed to theaters and Video-On-Demand soon, before coming home on DVD in October.
Killer Film recently caught up with the young directors, as we talk about the genre, the scares, and that creepy old mental institution. Check it out!
Jon: Was it hard writing Grave Encounters, considering the success of the genre now thanks to Paranormal Activity?
Stuart Ortiz: When we started writing it, it was interesting, because we were going to make it quote/unquote realistic, subtle. We actually started writing this...
