Fresh off playing three characters across two seasons of the Chucky TV series, Devon Sawa has taken a lead role in the horror film Consumed, coming our way from The Butcher Brothers (a.k.a. director Mitchell Altieri and producer Phil Flores), the filmmaking duo behind The Night Watchmen, The Violent Kind, and The Hamiltons.
Courtney Halverson of Unfriended and St. Agatha and Mark Famiglietti of Hang Time and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines star in Consumed as Jay and Beth, a married couple taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.
David Calbert wrote the screenplay for the film, which was executive produced by Jeffrey Allard and XYZ Films. XYZ Films is also handling the world distribution sales and will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

Horror stalwart Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Final Destination, Idle Hands) delivered a memorable turn in 2020’s survival horror Hunter Hunter. He’s set to return to the wilderness once more with Consumed, the latest horror movie by The Butcher Brothers.
THR reports that Sawa will play a “wild madman” the central married couple will encounter on a camping trip. Of course, it’s not the madman that’s the most significant threat; there’s something else in the woods with them.

Exclusive: The Kourosh Ahari-directed psychological thriller The Night has landed a license for theatrical release in Iran. This is a historic benchmark for the country’s filmmaking community as it is the first U.S.-produced film to receive a license for theatrical release in Iran since the revolution.
Iran’s strict guidelines about what can be released theatrically in the country and its impact on artistic expression has received backlash from Iranian filmmakers including Mohammad Rasoulof (There Is No Evil), Asghar Farhadi (A Separation) as well as Rakhshan Bani Etemad. The country’s guidelines also require films to obtain a permit on a script before going into production. The Night, which is a U.S. and Iran co-production, managed to receive this permit before the Trump Administration’s new Iran sanctions at the end of 2018.

Porn actress Michelle Sinclair (pictured above) is to make her mainstream movie debut in horror flick Stripped. Who’s she? You may ask. Well Sinclair typically goes by the rather more famous porn moniker of Belladonna! First Ron Jeremy, then Sasha Grey (in Smash Cut), and now Belladonna? The horror/porn crossover continues it seems…
Stripped tells the story of a birthday outing that turns into a horrific fight for survival after the protagonists become trapped in a house with a “family” of malevolent women. Sinclair joins the already announced Tiffany Shepis (The Violent Kind, Night of the Demons) and Samrat Chakrabarti (Finding Graceland) in the film which is directed by John Wildman. 12.00 Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Vampire culture has gotten the film treatment more than any niche of the occult world. The world seems to be ga-ga for vampirism; the inherent sexuality, the blood, the power - the elements come together each and every time to form the same movie, the only real difference is how the features are implemented. Bled definitely has a new angle on the vampire concept treating it as a mere means to be exploited for immortality instead of focusing on the immortality of vampirism itself. The blood of innocents sustaining the life of an immortal: old and mentioned in Bled. Where Bled hits a new vein is in how the vampirism exists and the elementary analysis of addiction that gets thrown in along with it.

Bled is a vampire movie without teeth. There’s literally and figuratively no bite to it. And not much bloodshed, either. Or sex. On the DVD’s audio commentary by producer Jeffrey Allard, director Christopher Hutson and composer Chris Kazmier, the filmmakers discuss their intention to “retool” the vampire film. If by this they mean defang and dilute the subgenre, well, then they were successful.
Horror fans will have a frustrating time sitting through a movie that plays like Twilight lite for “bit lit” readers. And sorry, ladies (and any “bit lit” gents out there), but Bled’s bloodsucker, Renfield (Jonathan Oldham), is no Robert Pattinson. I can’t believe I just said that…
The movie begins with some very pretentious, very bad narration grandiloquently spoken by Renfield over a dream sequence of Sai (Sarah Farooqui) being chased through a forest by a creature (called the “Incubus”) that looks like...

This review was written for the festival screening of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning." Fantastic FestAUSTIN -- With the question of sacrilege already dispatched in 2003 when Tobe Hooper's stark, primordial "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was happily remade as an au courant pop gorefest, the question of whether a new prequel is in a class with its 1974 forebear is a non sequitur to anyone but hardcore fans (who nevertheless will nod approvingly at producer credits for Hooper and partner Kim Henkel). Viewed as an everyday horror flick, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" gets the job done. The film should hold its own at the boxoffice without attracting those beyond the baseline audience for such pictures. Unsurprisingly, "Beginning" is designed to leave room for other installments.
We see the bleak and nasty circumstances of Leatherface's birth -- his surrogate mother discovers him in a trash bin, a good deed that will punish untold numbers a few decades hence -- and jump through his school years to find the deformed giant working in a slaughterhouse that gets condemned in 1969. After punishing his boss for a less-than-sensitive firing, the brute and his uncle R. Lee Ermey, in full maniacal drill sergeant mode) wind up with two dead bodies to dispose of and one hungry, inbred family to feed. As Uncle Hoyt (he has assumed the identity of a sheriff he killed) tells his nephew when he sets him up at the butcher block: "Meat's meat, bone is bone."
Enter two young couples who, after a tamely lusty introduction, wreck their car and are "rescued" by Hoyt. The grisly tortures and attempted escapes are fairly stock and not as punchy as those in the 2003 film. This incarnation suffers from the absence of a Jessica Biel. Jordana Brewster is fine but doesn't rise to the level of scream queen. An acid-washed color palette and hyperactive camera also fill the genre's current expectations without rising to the previous entry's level.
The crucial absence here is humor, even for a movie that isn't chasing camp appeal. One exception is the family's first exposure to the idea of "sheriff stew": The matriarch lets out a shocked "Charlie!" We swiftly enough discover that it isn't cannibalism she objects to -- she just insists on saying grace before anyone eats.
Beyond that, the whole fear-of-obese-hillbillies device is starting to smell as stale as Leatherface's playroom. Does this horror trend simply reflect a national fear, as giant radioactive ants personified the Bomb in the 1950s? If so, maybe it's time for us all to go on a diet; America needs fresh fodder for its boogeymen.

AUSTIN -- With the question of sacrilege already dispatched in 2003 when Tobe Hooper's stark, primordial "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was happily remade as an au courant pop gorefest, the question of whether a new prequel is in a class with its 1974 forebear is a non sequitur to anyone but hardcore fans (who nevertheless will nod approvingly at producer credits for Hooper and partner Kim Henkel).
As Uncle Hoyt (he has assumed the identity of a sheriff he killed) tells his nephew when he sets him up at the butcher block: "Meat's meat, bone is bone".
