Tum Jhoothi Main Makkar
Staring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor
Directed by Luv Ranjan
Let’s get this straight. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar(Tjmm) is one of the most entertaining rom-coms in recent times. And why just recent? It is probably one of the finest films in the from-com space blending pizzas with a punch-filled plot which is relevant and redhot. And the spoken lines are on the dot.
So should I spill out what Ranjan and his co-writer Rahul Mody finally have to say on familial ties? Or should I just take you through the bumper journey of Micky and Tinni, two goodlooking people , who are meant to be together. But , sigh, inhe kaun samjhaye?
Ranjan’s ebullient adrenaline-pumped ambrosial rom-com is irresistibly stylish and smart. It knows its mind and how to say what it has to say without falling prey to the tropes of the genre. In essence,...

There has been a dearth of rom coms lately. Moreso, post pandemic with the advent of the Ott platforms with unique subjects and genres from across the globe. Even the filmmakers who used to dish out content of this genre have moved on and it is not just the actors. What could an actor do if one is not offered such films!! It appears that Luv Ranjan has become the flag bearer for making light-hearted comedies with a sprinkle of romance. Someone rightly pointed that the industry sure must have romantic scripts doing rounds, but one film needs to click majorly to turn the tide. The actors need to turn their gaze and put their faith in voices of the new filmmakers and writers who have a story to tell. But the point is who’s going to bet on them if the producers no more think rom com as a safe bet!

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Kayoze Irani
This is a diverse provocative(sometimes too consciously so) bouquet of stories of four women in search of an emotional and physical fulfillment that eludes them because…well, they have obligations. Don’t we all!
Uneven in quality, some of the plotting conceits verge on the absurd. To begin with, let’s take the first story Majnu directed by Shashank Khaitan. It is a passionless passion-tale about a marriage of convenience between a moneyed dangerous criminal Babloo(Jaideep Ahlawat) and Lipashi(Fatima Sana Sheikh). The film opens with one of Babloo’s henchman making a preposterous pass at his Bhabhaiji, and never recovers its equilibrium.

Entertainment While ‘Geeli Pucchi’ and ‘Ankahi’ make an impact, ‘Khilauna’ and ‘Majnu’ end up being shockingly bad.Saraswati DatarScreenshotAjeeb Daastaans, an anthology of four short films, is a strange combination of two really good films and two that make films my classmates made in college seem great. Now streaming on Netflix, Ajeeb Daastaans is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. Directors Shashank Khaitaan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani are at the helm of four stories Majnu, Khilauna, Geeli Pucchi and Ankahi. The premise or rather promise is that each story brings a shocking, horrifying and/or heartbreaking twist in the tale we never saw coming. Unfortunately, Shashank Khaitaan and Raj Mehta tell tales that seem so self-conscious in their desire to shock that they end up being quite shockingly bad. Ajeeb Daastans is rescued by its brilliant third film, Geeli Pucchi directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, who elicits...

Ludo leaves you feeling confused, frazzled but ultimately it leaves you with a smile on your face and I guess that is what matters.
Anurag Basu pens a very complex screenplay weaving five storylines around absolute utter chaos! Honestly I cannot tell you what Ludo was about but I can tell you that it deserves your 2.5hrs. As the film progressed I was bracing myself for the moment when the writer and editor would lose track and this would turn into an utter mess but thankfully it does not get to that stage. The stories effortlessly intertwine with each other into an edge of the seat outlandish yet heartwarming satirical thriller. Props to writers Anurag Basu and Samrat Chakraborty and editor Ajay Sharma for keeping it together. Yes, naturally the movie does lack momentum at parts but somehow you become reengaged in no time.
The cast boasts of the whose who of scene stealer.

Ludo (Netflix)
Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Suresh Saraf, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma, Paritosh Tripathi, Asha Negi, Shalini Vatsa
Cinematography and Directed by Anurag Basu
“When luck suck, everyone f…k, ” drawls Pankaj Tripathy, delightfully droll and wickedly wise as a chawl-level ganglord. The grammatical gaffe notwithstanding, every character in the film would have to agree with Pankaj Bhaiyya. Who would dare not to?!
Look at what life rolls out for Akash Chauhan. He had just about put to rest his feelings for the brazenly materialistic Ahana (Sanya Malhotra) when a video clip of their nocturnal activities crops up on everyone’s phone. If you consider the fact that Akash has a talent for ventriloquism you would know what the couple is in for with the voyeuristic video.

Mumbai, Nov 5 (Ians) Filmmaker Anurag Basu is geared up for the release of his upcoming multistarrer film Ludo, and he has a quirky anecdote on how he finalised the title of the film.
"Throughout my last film 'Jagga Jasoos', we would play ludo on the set. Actually, not just on the set but even during long drives the game of ludo never ended. This film is similarly a story of four different journeys coming together, so the name 'Ludo' fell in place," said the director.
On how he decided to make the film, Basu added: "Before we started 'Ludo', I had four to five scripts ready and I had to make the difficult choice of which one to go ahead with. Tani (his wife) and (composer) Pritam da pushed me towards this script and that's how it came together."

What happens when life is a literal roll of the dice?
Ludo is about the butterfly effect and how, despite all the chaos and crowd of the world, all our lives are inextricably connected. Ludo is four different stories tied together by unavoidable circumstances and coincidences far beyond our understanding, all of which make up for a crazy caper of a film.
