Emmy Award winner Jimmy Kimmel is back as the host for the upcoming 2024 Oscars ceremony, marking the late-night star’s fourth time fronting the show. Emmy nominee Molly McNearney will also return to serve as an executive producer for the second consecutive year in a row.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host previously led the 2017, 2018 and 2023 telecasts. The 2017 ceremony produced the now infamous “La La Land” and “Moonlight” best picture screw-up. Kimmel will now sit alongside other four-peaters such as Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. The only people to host more times are Johnny Carson (5), Billy Crystal (9) and Bob Hope (11).
“I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” said Kimmel in a statement. McNearney adding that she’s “especially honored to be part of the Oscars team this year.”

Hollywood still has a bit of work to do before the 2024 Oscars are actually within grasp, but the Academy and telecast partner ABC just cleared a few of the annual hurdles to ensure a live show — setting a producing team, a returning director and a first-time showrunner.
Live TV and go-to Las Vegas residency producer Raj Kapoor, who’s worked on the Academy Awards telecast for the last seven years, has been named showrunner and executive producer for the first time. He assumes the role after collecting a sprawling list of TV credits, including work on the Grammys, the Emmys and quite a few Disney-branded live celebrations.
Joining Kapoor as a first-time Oscar executive producer is Katy Mullan, who comes from live TV production house Mullan Done + Dusted. The British outfit has done everything from producing the Olympics to virtual specials in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Together,...

Practical, the Oscars are not. This year, however, the creative team behind the award show really outdid themselves: on March 12, viewers bore witness to a brand-new white carpet. Except, it wasn't white at all. (Our mistake. How embarrassing.) The new carpet was champagne, as described by Lisa Love, the event's first-ever red carpet creative consultant.
Why not take it a step further? "We chose this beautiful sienna, saffron color that evokes the sunset, because this is the sunset before the golden hour," Love told The Associated Press prior to the Oscars. Love later elaborated in The New York Times: "The sienna-color tent and champagne-colored carpet was inspired by watching the sunset on a white-sand beach at the 'golden hour' with a glass of champagne in hand, evoking calm and peacefulness."
Gone are the days of that garish red carpet, marked by decades of tradition. Enter instead, a beige substitute -...

As a global audience starts to tune in for the 95th Academy Awards, one thing that is guaranteed to surprise viewers is the creative decision not to have a red carpet, but a champagne-colored runner instead. But can this bold choice withstand the traffic on Hollywood’s biggest night? Update: It cannot, and the backlash is already brewing.
“I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet rather than a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed,” joked Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel at the unrolling ceremony.
This is the first time since 1961 that the famous Oscars red carpet has not been red, one of the many big changes made for this year’s ceremony including a new dress code and the addition of an Academy Award “crisis team.”

Many things about the Academy Awards have changed over the years, but for the past six decades there has been at least one constant: The red carpet. The hues have varied over the years, but it has always been some shade of red. Until this year.
On Wednesday outside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, workers unspooled a champagne-coloured carpet as Jimmy Kimmel, who is hosting the 95th Oscars on Sunday, presided over the occasion.
“I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet over a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed,” Kimmel said.
The decision to change the colour came from creative consultants Lisa Love, a longtime Vogue contributor, and Raúl Àvila, the creative director for the glamorous Met Gala in New York.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rolled out the Oscars red carpet Wednesday during a traditional event that hosted media, crew, show insiders and host Jimmy Kimmel. Returning for his third outing as host, Kimmel came quick with the jokes upon seeing that the red carpet this year isn’t actually red.
“I’m thrilled, I’m honored, I’m excited, mostly about the carpet. I mean, this carpet is so beautiful. It’s a remnant, we got it for a very good price downtown,” quipped Kimmel of the carpet that measures 900 linear feet. “People have been asking if there’s going to be any trouble this year, is there going to be any violence this year? I certainly hope not. But if there is, I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet rather than a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed.

What happens when Hollywood’s biggest night (and arguably the most glam red carpet event of the year) doesn’t have…a red carpet?
For the first time since 1961, the Academy Awards will not have a literal red carpet leading into the Dolby Theatre. Instead, as the Associated Press announced, the 2023 Oscars will have a “champagne-colored” carpet ahead of the awards ceremony.
“I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet over a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed,” host Jimmy Kimmel said, possibly referencing Will Smith’s attack on Chris Rock last year.
The 2023 Academy Awards non-red red carpet color change choice was made by creative consultants Lisa Love, a longtime Vogue contributor, and Raúl Àvila, the creative director for the Met Gala in New York. Other shades sienna and saffron were tried out to “evoke the sunset” but eventually the...

Deadline’s Pete Hammond hit all the big points from Saturday’s in-person and by-video membership meeting of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Oscar show revamp, producers hired, revenue diversifying, inclusion program full steam ahead. President Janet Yang and Chief Executive Bill Kramer are promising much, and already beginning to make good on the promises, not least by holding the first of what are promised to be annual meetings open to the Academy’s 10,000-plus members.
It was like a much-needed airing-out of the Academy closets—and as dust poofed up from the nooks and crannies, lots of small details made today’s meeting an event worth monitoring.
For starters, the audience laughed out loud, according to my best report, when Kramer acknowledged that members haven’t actually liked the Oscar show lately. It was something the administration definitively learned from a member survey—not the first,...

Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will produce the 95th Oscars telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Saturday.
The announcement was made at the beginning of a meeting open to all Academy members, the first time in eight years that AMPAS has conducted such a forum. The hiring of Weiss and Kirshner means that the upcoming Oscars ceremony, which will take place on March 12, 2023, will be the first with a producing team whose experience does not include a substantial amount of work in film.
Weiss, who will also direct the Oscars, for the eighth consecutive year, is a director and producer who known for his work on live telecasts like the Oscars, the Tonys and the Kennedy Center Honors. Kirshner has won nine Emmys for his live telecasts, including the Tony Awards, the Emmys, the last eight Democratic Conventions and 14 Super Bowl halftime shows.

In an effort to get the Oscar telecast back on track, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Saturday announced that awards show and live television veterans Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will produce the 95th annual Academy Awards, which will air on ABC on March 12, 2023.
Ever since he was named CEO in the spring, Bill Kramer has indicated that the Academy would look to hiring top TV professionals with vast experience, rather than going in past directions in hiring primarily producers who were better known for their work in film rather than staging live television. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not have to look too far to find the new producers of the Academy Awards.
On Saturday, the organization’s CEO Bill Kramer announced that Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment have been named executive producers of the 95th Oscars, which will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Not only has Weiss produced the show once before, he has been directing the awards telecast for eight years and counting, netting him two Emmys for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. It will, however, be Kirshner’s first time producing the Oscars, but bringing in the pair from White Cherry Entertainment delivers on Kramer’s promises to find collaborators this year who are experts in live television event production.
“We are thrilled to have Glenn and Ricky at the helm,” said Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang via statement.

Tonight is the series finale of MTV’s The Hills and the end of a certain pop culture era. In 2006, we all saw ourselves as Lauren: a young girl arriving in a new city, looking for friendship, love, and success. We could relate to her attempts at having at all, and she and her friends were just like us…with much more glamorous wardrobes, homes, and jobs. (Well, “jobs.”) There were a few surprises — check out The Hills: 12 Game-Changing Moments gallery — and there were plenty of episodes we just loved. After six seasons of hookups, breakups, friends, jobs, and dating,...

Lc turns down Teen Vogue's overseas internship to spend the summer with then-boyfriend Jason Wahler.

The old saying goes that before you find your prince, you have to kiss a few frogs. In Lauren Conrad's case, one of the bigger frogs happened to be former "Laguna Beach" co-star Jason Wahler. By the time Jason made the transition to "The Hills," the pair were already experiencing their share of problems. Still, she decided to get serious and give Jason one more chance as summer approached and the series' first season drew to a close.
Although she probably knew that Jason wasn't right for her, Lc couldn't resist giving the troubled relationship another go. "It's like there's this guy who I really like, and he's done something really terrible to me," she said to Jason. "But I still like him."

MTV News is counting down the most buzzed-about "Hills" moments before the premiere of the show's final season airs on Tuesday, and our #8 moment comes courtesy of the show's very first episode.
When Lauren Conrad began on the show, she was an intern at Teen Vogue just hoping to make a good first impression on her then-boss, Lisa Love. However, her party-girl roommate Heidi Montag just wanted to have a good time and nearly ruined Conrad's first major assignment at the magazine.
During Lc's big task — helping out at the Young Hollywood Party being thrown by Teen Vogue — Heidi showed up looking for a good time, unfortunately at her pal's expense. Montag showed the world early on that she had a taste for causing trouble.

We doubt Lauren Conrad has plans to return to The Hills, even for the series finale. But maybe a former boss will convince the 24-year-old otherwise. "The show gave her a great run," Teen Vogue editor Lisa Love told us last night at Diego Della Valle's Moca fundraiser at Tod's in Beverly Hills. "She should definitely come back for the finale." Hills creator Adam Divello told EW.com that his dream is to have Miss Conrad walk down the aisle in the last episode, but Love has other things on her wish list for L.C.'s hoped for return... "It'd be fun if Lauren and I caught up in Paris," Love suggested. "I think they could find a way to make it work...
