X-Men is one of Marvel’s most popular superhero teams. The team arguably comes 2nd in popularity right after The Avengers as the latter has gained a lot of admiration and acclaim since their live-action adaptation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While Superhero-fatigue was not at its peak, several movies from both superhero brands— Marvel and DC Studios, enjoyed the heydays at the box office. Amid that, stand-alone female-led movies have also seen astonishing success.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, in particular, was the perfect example of the rise of female-led superhero flicks as the 2017 movie went on to be a critical darling with a stunning box-office performance. Fox’s X-Men movie series based on the Marvel characters also enjoyed a mild buzz for a female-led movie with Dafne Keen but it did not see the light of day as of yet.

At the beginning of William Shatner's 1989 film "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-a is on shore leave, taking a much-needed breather while their ship undergoes extensive repairs and improvements. Scotty (James Doohan) and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) are overseeing the repairs back on the ship. Chekhov (Walter Koenig) and Sulu (George Takei) are hiking together in Yosemite while Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Captain Kirk (Shatner), and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) set up their own camp nearby. This must not be a very long shore leave, otherwise I assume these people would all be at home visiting their families and not hanging out with their co-workers.
At night, McCoy, Kirk, and Spock gather around a campfire, cook beans, and enjoy marshmallows. Everything is comfortably low-tech. Kirk and McCoy attempt to introduce Spock to the Earth tradition of singing songs around the campfire, teaching him the lyrics to "Row,...

"The Incredible Hulk" was an early stumbling block for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Released in June 2008, a mere month after "Iron Man," lightning did not strike twice for Marvel Studios' burgeoning movie enterprise; "Incredible Hulk" got a shrug from critics and underperformed at the box office.
Even so, Marvel Studios steamrolled ahead. Star Edward Norton didn't return for any future MCU films and Bruce Banner was recast with Mark Ruffalo for "The Avengers." The behind-the-scenes book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" by Dave Gonzales, Gavin Edwards, and Joanna Robinson features a chapter about "The Incredible Hulk" and its gamma radiation-flavored fallout. The book ultimately puts the production's unpleasant memories on the shoulders of Edward Norton, suggesting his actor-as-auteur approach solidified Marvel's top-down filmmaking tactics.
An unnamed "Marvel performer" tells the authors, "We have a no-a**hole policy on our movies," and the book traces this policy back to Norton's behavior.

Russell Crowe has joined the cast of “Thor: Love and Thunder,” after Crowe was spotted hanging out with the film’s cast in Australia.
Details about Crowe’s role are being kept under wraps on New Asgard. Marvel declined to comment.
Taika Waititi — who took home the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Jojo Rabbit” — will return to write and direct. The filmmaker directed the third film in the installment, “Thor: Ragnarok,” which was written by Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle and Christopher L. Yost. This review contains no spoilers and is based on the first three episodes of Pacific Rim: The Black season 1.
Guillermo del Toro’s neon-drenched monsters-vs-robots epic Pacific Rim wore its influences proudly on its elbow cannon-equipped sleeves, so an anime-style spin-off makes a certain kind of inevitable sense. Pacific Rim: The Black is a seven-episode Netflix Original that seeks to expand the Pacific Rim mythology – think “extended universe” rather than “sequel”.
Created by Thor: Ragnarok co-writer Craig Kyle and X-Men: Evolution head writer Greg Johnson, the show follows siblings Hayley (Gideon Adlon) and Taylor Travis (Calum Worthy) as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic, kaiju-infested Australia.
A quick introductory voiceover establishes the setup: after multiple new Breaches appeared on the continent, the Pan Pacific Defence Corps cut its losses and moved out of Australia entirely. A half-hearted evacuation pulled out some survivors; the rest were abandoned. Hayley and Taylor’s parents were Jaeger pilots,...

Netflix dropped the trailer for anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” Friday, revealing an animated world that has been overrun by Kaiju.
Based on filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s blockbuster “Pacific Rim” movie franchise, “Pacific Rim: The Black” continues the epic battles between monsters and robots, this time through the eyes of two teens in Australia.
Per Netflix, “There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well known for being a highly collaborative environment, but Kevin Feige has always been the main creative driving force behind the scenes, and the actors themselves aren’t particularly involved in the development of the movies they appear in. In fact, Paul Rudd is the only star to have been given a writing credit in the franchise to date, and even then he was just one of four scribes on Ant-Man and five on the sequel.
That might lead to some issues on Deadpool 3, seeing as Ryan Reynolds was personally responsible for dragging the first film out of a dozen years stuck in development hell. The 44 year-old also produced and co-wrote the two Fox blockbusters as well as playing the lead role, and you’d imagine that he wouldn’t want to give up those responsibilities when it comes to the third installment.

Ryan Reynolds may be the man responsible for Deadpool finding untold fame and popularity following the release of 2016’s titular first film in the franchise, but the affable actor certainly isn’t the only household name to have played Marvel’s foul-mouthed antihero in recent times.

Christopher Eccleston hasn’t had a lot of nice things to say in the past about his experience working on 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. In an interview last year with The Guardian, for instance, the Malekith actor went as far as to joke that filming the God of Thunder’s second solo outing made him want to put a gun in his mouth. But during a recent panel at New York Comic Con, the star suggested that he still isn’t completely closed off to the idea of returning to the Marvel franchise.
Naturally, Eccleston still managed to get in a few more jabs at his sole outing in the McU, characterizing his experience on set as tedious and uncomfortable:

The Thor franchise gets a new lease of life thanks to Taika Waititi, who gives the God of Thunder his best McU showcase yet
This article contains spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok and the wider McU.
"Life is about growth; it's about change..."
With Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in full swing, having already introduced a couple of major new characters and raised the stakes for the Earth-bound Avengers (in Captain America: Civil War), it was time for the Mighty Thor's third big-screen outing. It's fair to say, though, that the God of Thunder was in need of a bit of a rethink after his largely soulless second adventure, The Dark World. As Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian hero tells his up-to-his-old-tricks brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), sometimes a change can do you good...
The man tasked by Marvel with leading that change was Taika Waititi. And change things he did.

Netflix continues to build their animation slate as they’ve announced five new anime titles that will produce. Two of those projects include anime series for Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon!
I love that Netflix is expanding on their animation projects. They’ve made some great animated films and series in the past and it’s exciting to see that we are going to get more of that. Alos, the projects that they are developing sound awesome!
Thanks to Deadline, we have details to share on all five the new anime projects:
Pacific Rim, “which expands the world of the two live-action movies of the same name, returns to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers. The original anime series follows two siblings — an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister — who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.

Vin Diesel’s upcoming “xXx 4” has been set as part of an expanded Hollywood-China partnership between The H Collective and Chinese streaming giant iQIYI.
Under a three-film agreement, iQIYI will also invest in horror pic “The Beast,” from H Collective president of production Sherryl Clark, and a currently untitled Manga project.
The two companies already have a three-picture co-production pact. The new agreement expands it to a six-film deal.
Los Angeles-based H Collective, which was established last year, seeks to develop and produce films that can be equally profitable in China and the rest of the world.
Action comedy “Counter Spy,” written by former Marvel executive Craig Kyle from an original draft by David Rothenberg and Lionel Enns, is expected to be the first film flowing from the H Collective-iQIYI deal. Production is slated to begin in early 2019.

On most occasions, the first question asked whenever a superhero movie goes into production is in regard to which villains will show up. But in the case of team-up flicks, there also tends to be much speculation swirling around who’ll round out the roster.
That said, it’s very easy for one to state that the recently released Deadpool 2 served as a prelude of sorts to the upcoming X-Force film. Not only did it introduce the likes of Cable and Domino in their long overdue cinematic debuts, but it also established a rapport between those two and Wade Wilson himself. And with those pleasantries now being out of the way, director Drew Goddard is free to open a veritable treasure trove once his project begins taking off.
Speaking of which, Goddard confirmed said triumvirate as being the core of the team to be featured in his picture while talking with Entertainment Weekly recently,...

If you were around during the 1990’s, then it stands to reason that you remember how big of a deal the X-Men were at that time. I mean, not only did you have the animated series creating new fans every day, but there was also an expansive toyline and the comic books were arguably booming more than they’d been for some time.
In addition to the flagship titles like X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, True Believers also had the likes of X-Factor and X-Force at their disposal, each of which featured remarkably different lineups and new ways of utilizing these dynamic characters.

Thor: Ragnarok is funny, bright, colorful and imaginative. Clearly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cosmos is a brilliantly lit place and a lot of fun to visit. The blending of the prophesied Norse end times with the beloved Planet Hulk storyline is made to work but only by giving each story short shrift and robbing the former of its power. As much fun as it is to see Thor (Chirrs Hemsworth) shorn of hair, robbed of his enchanted hammer Mjolnir, and subjected to appearing in a remake of Gladiator, the film doesn’t pause long enough to make audiences feel anything for the end of the Norse way of life. Hollywood’s annual awards season is officially in full swing, and Disney has submitted its finest cinematic achievements of 2017 for your consideration.
They are, in no particular order, Cars 3, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Coco, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Beauty and the Beast and Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi’s cosmic threequel set to release via Blu-ray and DVD on March 6th.
Truth be told, Ragnarok has struggled to gain much in the way of awards love – so far, at least – having failed to nab a single nomination for this year’s Golden Globes. But Disney clearly isn’t ready to wave the white flag, and has even released the threequel’s 129-page screenplay online in the hope that it’ll procure the attention it arguably deserves.

Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson revealed that she cornered Feige with several other Marvel actresses and asked him about producing a film that centered around the female superheroes. Feige said "yes" and explained that it could very well happen.
If the film does happen, I imagine it will end up being a Lady Liberators movie, which would be awesome! Lady Liberators is an all-female team in the comics with characters that have included Valkyrie, Wasp, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch. There are more characters that include She-Hulk, Storm, Tigra, Hellcat, Spider-Woman and more.

By now you've probably seen Vanity Fair's rather epic photo-shoot celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. An impressive number of heroes from the history of the franchise took part, but writer/producer Craig Kyle snagged one photo for himself (well, for his daughter) which really should have been included. Featuring many of the women of the McU, the photo... Read More...

Between them, 20th Century Fox, James Mangold (Logan) and comic book scribe Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) are dreaming up a spinoff movie for X-23, the young mutant brought to life with real intensity by the up-and-coming Dafne Keen.
It’s still gestating in the formative stages of development, mind you, given Fox only made the project official late last month, but thanks to concept artist Masaolab (via ComicBook.com), we now have a sneak peek at what Dafne Keen may look like as “All-New Wolverine.”
Kitted out in full X-Men gear, this concept art is something special, as it imagines Laura/X-23 donning the adamantium claws as Wolverine’s one true successor. Loosely based on the aesthetic of Tom Taylor’s comic book series, below you’ll see Keen in action as X-23, who appears to be smashing her way through some sort of concrete wall. In addition, there’s...

Standalone Thor films have never really received the love that most other Avengers’ solo films receive and with good reason as the films, up to now, have been either been boring (original Thor) or pretty to watch but ultimately forgettable (Thor: The Dark World). Thor: Ragnarok opened in North America on November 3rd and hoped to change that by taking a new approach by using comedy to liven up the forgettable film series.
This time, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must not only tangle with his mischievous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), but also Hela, the God of Death (Cate Blanchett) as she tries to continue what Odin (Anthony Hopkins) stopped her from doing centuries ago, rule the universe. Along the way,...

If there’s one black mark on Marvel’s resume to date, it’s that they’ve yet to really get the Thor franchise right. He’s worked as part of the group in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but in solo outings Thor and Thor: Ragnarok, he’s been the blandest character of the lot. Aside from Hulk, he’s essentially been the read headed stepchild of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, feature player wise. On Friday, the McU gets an unexpected jolt of comedy from the God of Thunder when Thor: Ragnarok opens. Not only is this the best of the Thor trilogy by far, it’s also one of Marvel’s better overall works. You’ll see a ranking later on in the piece, but if you’re a fan of the lighter McU works, this will be completely up your alley. The film is the...

Chicago – Any blacksmith will tell you that their job is much more than the brute action of slamming a hammer onto steel. There is some finessing and an attention to detail that needs to take place in order to make something truly notable. With Taika Waititi manning the hammer, he takes the “Thor” franchise out from the Dark Ages and into the technicolor light.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Taika Waititi is the perfect choice to revive and rebrand Thor from the slump of the last film. His style of visual storytelling, in films like “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”, fits perfectly in the Thor universe, especially with how heavily steeped in Norse mythology the franchise is. His comedic timing and acuity for visual gags, along with the vibrant color palette, stimulate the cinematic experience and elevate it from the grim grayness of the former films. Waititi completely...

MaryAnn’s quick take… Breezy, jokey, crammed with clever sci-fi ideas; the funniest McU flick yet. Director Taika Waititi brings a new geeky verve we didn’t realize the series needed. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast, love the McU
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Thor can go to hell.
No, I mean, literally: Thor is capable of going to hell, just for a visit, which is where he is at the opening of Ragnarok. Okay, okay, I know, I know, it’s not really hell, not Hell. I know it’s Muspelheim, the extradimensional realm of fire, please don’t write in to complain. But it’s pretty hellish, and Thor is there to confront the fire demon Surtur, who is fairly satanic: extremely large and scary, aflame, and determined to slay the gods of Asgard and...
