Disney’s Haunted Mansion premiere, held at Disneyland on Saturday night, looked a little different from what the studio originally planned as it became the first major Hollywood event to take place after SAG-AFTRA took to the picket lines.
Stars Tiffany Haddish, Lakeith Stanfield, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner, Lindsay Lamb, director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, executive producers Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman and composer Kris Bowers were initially scheduled to walk the red carpet, held in front of the theme park’s Haunted Mansion ride. When the actors strike was called on Thursday, however, the stars were no longer able to attend the event. Strike guidelines prohibit not only on-camera work but also promotional activity, including premieres, interviews, festivals, FYC events, award shows and podcasts.

Disney didn’t let the SAG-AFTRA strike get in the way of its “Haunted Mansion” world premiere.
None of the stars of the movie were expected to be in attendance, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner and Lindsay Lamb all observing the SAG-AFTRA strike. The studio still rolled out the red carpet at Disneyland in Anaheim Saturday night.
Director Justin Simien told Variety he was “sad” his cast couldn’t attend, but understands why and supports the actors walkout. Press were initially told that Simien would not be doing interviews.

The first character to appear on screen in the first Disney animated feature film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” was not one of the titular characters, but rather the antagonist, known simply as the Evil Queen. The archetypal villain ended up with a screen time total of 12 minutes and eight seconds, over two-thirds of which she spends disguised as an old beggar woman. Although she appears in just under 15% of the film’s running time, the Queen still held the distinction of being the animated Disney villain with the most screen time for 16 years.
The Queen’s screen time record was broken in 1953 by Captain Hook, who is in the 14th Disney feature, “Peter Pan,” for 19 minutes and 56 seconds. Nearly 70 years later, even he has been knocked down a few pegs by other, more prominent Disney baddies, while the Queen has fallen to 20th place. Scroll through our photo...

This story about “Lightyear” first appeared in the Awards Preview issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Pixar’s “Lightyear” is built around a nimble, ingenious premise: Instead of just another entry in the “Toy Story” franchise, it is the movie that young Andy watched and became obsessed with the Buzz Lightyear character (here played by Chris Evans) before the events of the first “Toy Story” film. As envisioned by co-writer/director Angus MacLane, “Lightyear” is a muscular science fiction movie (MacLane’s professed favorite is “Aliens”) that also must exist within the preexisting framework of the “Toy Story” franchise and the cumbersome mythology that has already been established. One of the more delicious thrills of “Lightyear” is watching it bump up against the mythos and gleefully subvert the audience’s preconceived notions.
And nowhere is this push-and-pull greater than when Buzz comes face-to-face with Zurg, the movie’s big villain.

A fire has broken out on the set of Disney’s “Snow White” at Pinewood Studios in the U.K.
The stage was under construction for the live-action version of the animated classic when a tree reportedly caught alight, leading to a huge blaze.
“No filming was underway,” a Disney source confirmed to Variety.
The film is set to star “West Side Story’s” Rachel Zegler as the Disney princess and “Wonder Woman” lead Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
The fire is believed to have broken out on Pinewood’s Richard Attenborough stage, with photographs showing enormous flames next to a mock thatched cottage, with thick smoke all the way up to the ceiling.
Photographs taken outside the production facility also showed smoke billowing around the outside of the building.

“West Side Story” breakout star Rachel Zegler skyrocketed to fame, but not without a race-driven backlash.
Following the news of Zegler being cast in the titular role for Disney’s upcoming live-action “Snow White” film, newcomer Zegler described the social media backlash she endured.
“When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because all of the people were angry,” Zegler said during Variety‘s Actors on Actors discussion with Andrew Garfield.
As for haters, Zegler advised, “We need to love them in the right direction.”
The upcoming “Snow White” remake is being directed by Marc Webb, and co-stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
“Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me,” Zegler said of joining the iconic film franchise. “You don’t normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent. Even though...

Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake months before Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” hit theaters and turned the 20-year-old newcomer into a best actress winner at the Golden Globes and National Board of Review Awards. The casting announcement was met with some backlash from toxic fans shocked and upset that an actress of Latin descent would be stepping into the iconic role of Snow White. Zegler couldn’t believe Disney made such a casting choice either, for what it’s worth.

Disney Responds to Peter Dinklage’s ‘Snow White’ Outrage: We’re ‘Consulting With Dwarfism Community’
Disney has issued a response over its upcoming live-action “Snow White” remake following criticisms made by Peter Dinklage. The “Game of Thrones” Emmy winner blasted the Disney remake during an interview on Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast, calling out the fairytale’s “fucking backwards” depictions of dwarfs.
“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community,” a spokesperson for Disney said in a statement to Variety. “We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”

Disney’s slate of live-action remakes has included “Cinderella,” “The Jungle Book” and “Beauty and the Beast,” and coming soon is Marb Webb’s live-action reimagining of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Webb, best known for helming “500 Days of Summer” and Andrew Garfield’s “Spider-Man” films, has cast “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler in the title role and Gal Gadot as the villainous Evil Queen. Great news, Gen Z! They’re remaking “To Catch a Thief.”
The Alfred Hitchcock classic first debuted in 1955. It boasted breathtaking Riviera views, as well as Cary Grant being all effortlessly charming and Grace Kelly at peak icy blondness. There was also something about a cat burglar lured out of a comfortable retirement after being framed for a crime he didn’t commit — yada, yada — along with cinema’s most sexually suggestive fireworks display.
The new version is in early development, but Gal Gadot, better known as Wonder Woman and recently seen on Netflix in the crime caper “Red Notice” opposite Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson, is attached to star. Gadot can next be seen as the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” and in the long-delayed adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Death on the Nile.”

Gal Gadot will soon take on another iconic character in a live-action adaptation of a classic story: the “Wonder Woman” star is set to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming “Snow White” remake.
Gadot was beaming while speaking for her first time about her villainous Disney role.
“I’m so excited,” she told Variety on Wednesday night at the premiere of her new action film, “Red Notice,” which launches Nov. 12 on Netflix.
When asked what attracted her to the role of the Evil Queen in this iteration of “Snow White,” Gadot gave a major smile, but refrained from giving away too many details on the storyline.
“There is so much that I cannot share with you that will actually answer this question,” Gadot said, “But the take on this story is so different and delightful and full of joy… I’m very, very excited. I wish I could share more.

Disney Imagineer Jim Shull has taken to Twitter to offer his thoughts on a controversy, surrounding the Disneyland ride Snow White’s Enchanted Wish.
Since the Anaheim theme park reopened at the end of April, there has been substantial backlash to a ‘non-consensual kiss’ depicted on its renovated Snow White attraction, between the characters of Prince Charming and Snow White.
Shull’s Tweet came attached to a screenshot of Fox News, in which a headline reads, “Cancel Culture Targets Snow White.”
“Allowing for the fact that cultural changes occur over decades it must be acknowledged that in the context of the tale on which the film is based that the ride is accurate,” wrote Shull, who has worked for Disney for over three decades. “People are of course allowed to dislike the story but the Imagineering team did a spectacular job!”
