Manchester Film Festival Unveils Industry Programme
Exclusive: Over 20 industry experts will travel to North-West England for the Manchester Film Festival, running March 16-17. Confirmed speakers include Amy O’Hara, Siobhan Morgan, Kate O’Hara, Anu Henriques, Ben Taylor, and Phil Guy (Director of UK Marketing at Mubi). Filmmakers, writers, and creatives set to feature include Terri White (screenwriter: Coming Undone), Margot Douglas (Old Hall Films), Sam Oldknow (disability consultant and producer), and Carl Woods (Director: My Everest). Feature panels for the event include ‘Marketing and Selling Your Film,’ ‘Development and Production,’ ‘Making Filmmaking Accessible,’ ‘Screenwriting’ and ‘From Short to Feature.’ Industry Passes are priced at £65 ($78) and include access to the entire Manchester Film Festival, including all film screenings and after-parties.

Filmonomics is aimed at up-and-coming feature writers, directors and producers of marginalised genders from across the UK. Exclusive: A nativity story and an environmental project about disregard for our planet have been unveiled as the Pitch Film Fund 2022 Award winners, with Maternal – a story of protection and family – winning the Lucy Scher Award. The winners of the fund which has been running since 2009 will be handed £40,000 to spend on developing their short films. Irish writer Denise Deegan’s The Innkeeper, which retells the story of the Nativity through the eyes of a seven-year old girl, won the Comedy Award and Finnish newcomer Silva Kuusniemi took home the Drama gong for Stump about environmental activists in Finland. Meanwhile, UK based Eva Edo won the Lucy Scher Award for Maternal, a story of protection and family, while other finalists were Tom Cozens and Lewis Rose.
