Whoa! Joey's intervention didn't go at all as expected.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 12 once again proved that this is the best series on television, at least until it moves to its new home on Peacock.
Stabler and Randall went vigilante to force Joey into sobriety, but they got a lot more than they bargained for. Now everything's in place for a season finale that may be literally explosive!
Stabler and Randall Made a Desperate Move
They'd had enough of Joey's nonsense, especially after learning he might have been involved in Sam's death, but also managed to break the tension with humor.
After Joey went on that high-speed chase and was overpowered by them, Randall walked in and casually said, "Hi, Joe." That had to be one of the funniest lines ever.
Joey's withdrawals were serious, though. His physical illness, anger, and violent attempts to escape felt realistic.

They did it again.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 10 offered suspense that made it impossible to look away for a second.
It's not often that an hour of television is this riveting. The suspense was only one of many reasons this episode was must-see TV.
Most crime shows follow set patterns, including the rest of the Law & Order franchise. There's nothing wrong with that, but Law & Order: Organized Crime is refreshing because it breaks the mold.
There were almost no tired TV tropes during the hour, even if there was one twist that I feel like I should have seen coming.
Throughout the hour, Stabler continually earned more of Angus' trust. That was good news for his case but may not be great news for him personally, especially considering what happened to Sam.
The closer he gets to Angus, the more likely it is he will...

The intervention that took place in this week’s Law & Order: Organized Crime went even worse than the one that took place in the show’s first season… which is really saying something.
As the episode’s synopsis teased, Elliot and Randall confronted their younger brother, Joe Jr., about his heroin use (and possible selling) during a tense conversation during this week’s hour. In the lead-up, El shared with Randall that he suspected Joe’s drug use began in Afghanistan. And when they broke into Joe’s place, they found needles, drugs and rolls of cash. “We’ve...

And you thought that Stabler family dinner was tense.
This Thursday’s Law & Order: Organized Crime (NBC, 10/9c) will find Randall and Elliot attempting to help Joe Jr., whom they’re fairly sure is using heroin. Given the episode’s official synopsis — which notes that “Joe Jr. takes drastic action when his brothers try to stage an intervention” — we’re guessing that this intervention will go roughly as well as Elliot’s in Season 1. (Maybe Joe Jr. will even blurt out “I love you” to an unsuspecting participant?)

Yes, The X-Files became a pop culture sensation in the 1990s thanks in part to some of the best monsters in television history — the sewer-haunting Flukeman and the mutant Tooms just to name two classics. But even more than that, the show worked because of the repartee between its leads, steadfast believer Fox Mulder and his skeptical partner Dr. Dana Scully.
Each week, we tuned in to watch the duo trade barbs and philosophical ideas as well as flirt. We loved to watch the rumpled David Duchovny mutter hilarious observations while Scully, played to perfection by Gillian Anderson, raised important and skeptical questions. Part of the fun of the show came from the romantic tension between the two, even before a 1996 Rolling Stone cover blew everyone’s minds.
But if the Fox Network had had its way, the make up of the iconic duo would have been very different. In a recent interview with Inverse,...

The Fast and Furious franchise has featured some pretty big stars since the early days of the street racing crew stealing TV/Vcr combos. Check out the later entries and you’ll see Kurt Russell, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, and plenty of others. But one action favorite who won’t be getting behind the wheel is Jean-Claude Van Damme, who claims that he hit a big, bad, bald roadblock when approached about joining the Fast and Furious franchise.
In a profile by The Telegraph, Jean-Claude Van Damme claimed that he could have once been a part of the insanity of this series if for Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious franchise. “They want me in Fast and Furious… But Vin Diesel said, ‘No, I don’t want him.’” Shot down by the dude from Pitch Black and The Pacifier! Travis Kelce has donated $100,000 to a family whose two daughters were shot during the Super Bowl victory parade in Kansas City, Mo., last week.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end posted two donations, for $50,000 each through his Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation, to the GoFundMe page for the Reyes family to benefit the recovery of their daughters, ages 8 and 10.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the donations.
The two girls sustained leg injuries in the mass shooting that occurred during the Valentine’s Day celebration for the Super Bowl Lviii champions.
“The girls were celebrating with many members of their family when they were senselessly injured,” reads the Reyes family’s GoFundMe page. “We ask that you continue to keep the family in your prayers as the girls work to recover. This fund will help provide vital financial support for their physical and mental recovery, any leftover funds will be saved for their college funds.

The Fast and Furious franchise has been around since 2001, wowing audiences with its thrilling car chases, street racing, heists, and so much more. Starting the movie series with The Fast and the Furious starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and others, it kickstarted a franchise thay has endured for more than two decades. Its latest addition was Fast X, which saw the return of many actors, including Dwayne Johnson, who had bid goodbye to the franchise some years back.

Reyes and Jet's relationship went from annoying to compelling in an hour.
On Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 3, Jet's feelings went deeper than she admitted, contributing to a chaotic undercover situation. And Reyes getting out of control was one of the scariest moments!
This relationship might have been an unhealthy way of dealing with the aftermath of Whelan's death, but it led to a compelling subplot during a complicated case.
Jet and Reyes hooking up had a bad idea written all over it for too many reasons, so I was waiting for this stupid relationship to end.
Yet somehow, all the beats were just right, and the resolution of this mess kept me glued to the screen. Instead of tired TV tropes around affairs between cops, the writers deftly weaved their relationship woes into the main plot.

In all the years Stabler has been a fixture in the Law & Order universe, he never mentioned his brother.
After meeting Randall on Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 2, we know why.
Randall gave off seriously annoying vibes, seemed to be in a constant battle to one-up Elliot, and was ill-prepared to deal with Mama Stabler's dementia. After an hour with him, I'm ready for him to go back to wherever he came from!
I'm not any more sure why Stabler's mother felt she needed Randall than she seemed to be. So far, he's been nothing but obnoxious.

Xbox owners who have been waiting for their physical version of Daymare 1994: Sandcastle will have their prayers answered this Spring. Invader Studios and publisher GS2 Games have announced that the long-delayed physical retail copy of their follow-up to 2019’s Daymare: 1998 will arrive for Xbox Series X and Xbox One on April 9th. The Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions of Daymare 1994 launched last August.
The prequel to the Daymare: 1998, Sandcastle casts players as special agent Dalila Reyes, a former government spy now in the service of the H.A.D.E.S. (Hexacore Advanced Division for Extraction and Search) unit. Reyes’ mission seems simple: enter the most advanced experimental research centre in the United States of America. Reyes will be up against formidable foes, some of whom won’t quite stay dead, coming back in a completely new form and even deadlier than before.

Exclusive: It’s just another day in Manila’s Riverbanks Center studios and a stand-in actor is beating off a group of gangsters with an outsized prosthetic penis – thankfully one that is wrapped in a tasteful chiffon scarf.
The actor he’s standing in for, Enrique Gil, is one of the biggest heartthrobs in the Philippines’ film and TV industries and it’s safe to say he’s taking a slight departure with his most recent project, I Am Not Big Bird, which was mostly filmed in Thailand with some interiors in Manila.
Produced by Anima Studios and Abs-cbn’s Black Sheep, the film is about a 30-something virgin (Gil) who, dejected after his girlfriend turns down his marriage proposal, heads off on holiday to Thailand with a bunch of friends. Once there, a peculiar chain of events ensues when Gil’s character is mistaken for a famous Thai porn star,...

A little while ago, we dug into the first half of the huge Fast Saga. Initially starting as a series of low-wattage B-movies, the series eventually morphed into mega-budget spy adventures that gave the Mission Impossible and James Bond franchises a run for their money. Of all the movies, Fast Five was undoubtedly the turning point, which took Vin Diesel’s Dom and the rest of the Fast Family to Rio, where they went up against a drug lord and met Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Luke Hobbs.
From there, the series went on and on, enduring the death of beloved Fast Family member Paul Walker, a global pandemic, directors coming and going, and a feud between two of the stars that was so intense that it led to a spin-off movie and lots of hurt feelings. We also got larger-than-life villains, including Jason Statham’s Owen Shaw, who became...

Rolling Stone magazine celebrated the 20th anniversary of “School of Rock” with a new oral history in which many of the child actors from the Richard Linklater hit film opened up on the tough years they faced after the film’s blockbuster release. The Jack Black-led comedy was a box office hit in 2003 with $131 million worldwide, and it’s widely considered a bonafide comedy classic. Imagine going from Hollywood sensation back to high-school or middle-school teen. That was the reality for many of the “School of Rock” cast.
“It was tough. I came back to school, and I was like a three-headed freak, basically,” said Joey Gaydos Jr., who played lead guitarist Zack “Zack-Attack” Mooneyham in the film. “I came back with all this culture in my brain to a pretty one-horse town outside of Detroit. And I was looked at like a complete weirdo, and that was hard.

It seems that “Blue Beetle” has come full circle. The superhero movie was originally slated as an HBO Max (now simply known as Max) streaming release, but then moved to a theatrical run during development. And while it was a box office disappointment — despite getting the top spot during its opening weekend in early August — “Blue Beetle” might find more of an audience when it’s released on digital on September 26.
It’s available to stream as a digital purchase in 4K Ultra HD for $24.99 on Prime Video. If you aren’t a Prime member, you can sign up for a free trial here.

The Ángel Manuel Soto-directed movie tells the story of Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a recent-college graduate who returns home to the fictional Palmera City in Florida.

Human trafficking has been an ailment of society since forever it seems some times, with the stories we occasionally hear on the news reminding us that the incidents can easily happen as close to us as possible. Angelo Reyes presents a movie based on the real life story of Tanya, a girl how felt victim to trafficking, that highlights the aforementioned concept, through a Filipino prism that adds another level to the short.

Angel Manuel Soto was desperate to cast Mexican actors in 'Blue Beetle'.The Puerto Rican filmmaker has directed the new DC Extended Universe (Dceu) film – the first live-action movie to feature a Latino superhero in the form of Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle – and wanted the casting to be as authentic as possible.Speaking to Collider, Angel said: "One of the things that we wanted to do, first of all, was hire Mexican actors – not just Mexican Americans, but also go to Mexico and get the best stars from Mexico, like Damian Alcazar or Adriana Barraza."They bring their own authentic experiences to the movie, and that helps a lot to inform the conditions we want to put the Reyes family in."He continued: "We want the Reyes family to live in a world that affects their environment, that affects their decisions. Like for example, in my case from Puerto Rico – displacement,...

Spoilers for Blue Beetle. Consider yourself warned. While Blue Beetle may be more light-hearted than other superhero stories, that doesn’t mean that there can’t be some life-or-death stakes.
Related Box Office Predictions: Gran Turismo looking at soft opening
The death of a family member or close friend in order to motivate a superhero has been done again and again, but… it does work. While speaking with Collider, Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto said that the original plan was for “nobody” to die, but DC Studios pushed for an “emotional death.” Unfortunately, that meant that Reyes family patriarch Alberto (Damián Alcázar) had to die, but Soto and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wanted his death to mean something more.
“‘How can we create the lowest of lows with the family member?” Soto said. “And how that low is not just another death in the superhero genre, but how that low...

Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto is hopeful about the future of his characters and storylines, and the mere presence of the film’s mid-credit scene is a big reason why.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has already confirmed that Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle has a future in the new Dcu, which officially kicks off with 2025’s Superman: Legacy. But Soto previously told THR that he expects Jaime to have company, including the extended Reyes family and Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine).
With the mid-credit scene revealing that Jenny’s father (and the second Blue Beetle) Ted Kord is still alive, Soto likes the odds of this thread continuing since Ted is also tied to Booster Gold, a character that has a Max series in development. And considering that Gunn and his co-dc boss Peter Safran have cut a number of scenes from the last remaining...

The live-action The DC Universe was undergoing a transformation even before Blue Beetle entered production. Following the change in management and creation of DC Studios, a soft reboot of the existing Dceu started to take its course. This created confusion in existing continuity, and the last-minute changes in movies like The Flash were noticeable through reshoots and altered post-credits sequences.
To stray clear from this continuity confusion and to make way for a smoother inclusion in whichever movie continuity it’s required to be in, Blue Beetle did not opt for an established character cameo or direct reference to any Dceu events. Instead, for the entirety of its narrative structure, Blue Beetle was pretty consistent with the exploration of its self-contained world, which is true for its mid-credits scene as well. Let’s discuss the importance of the mid-credits scene in the context of the movie and also how it...

We are 15 years into superheroes dominating Hollywood, and after so many years, these movies have started to stagnate creatively. In many ways, superhero movies are now like action shonen anime: They all follow very strict formulas and can feel rather same-y, but it is the small ways in which each title is different from the others that makes them entertaining. Just like "Jujutsu Kaisen" is basically just a modern and more horror-inspired "Naruto," the latest DC movie, "Blue Beetle," stands out because of how it adds a focus on family and cultural specificity to the superhero formula.
That's the film's biggest strength from the get-go. Jaime Reyes' (Xolo Maridueña) family is fully aware of his superpowers and of the alien scarab that attached itself to his spine. This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken the reins of the new DC Universe of movies and TV series, the new cinematic univese born from the ashes of the Dceu that began with 2013’s Man of Steel. Interestingly, the new Dcu will also kick off with the Last Son of Krypton, this time in Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. But although Superman: Legacy is set to be the Dcu’s first official installment, Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle has been confirmed to be the “first” Dcu character.
Ángel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle comes in the wake of The Flash’s box office disappointment, and according to the first reviews, it’s a movie with real heart. The end of Blue Beetle neatly sets up Jaime Reyes for a sequel, but beyond that, the movie also secretly teases...

Review: Any film about the death of a child is going to be a tough watch and Birth/Rebirth is certainly no walk in the park. There were moments when my mouth was agape in shock. Subtle details in costume design, hairstyling and even production design showed the growth and progression of Selena Gomez’s Mabel in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Season 2 begins where the first left off — Mabel is the prime suspect after being found by the side of the dead body of Bunny, who lives in the same building as Mabel, Oliver (Martin Short) and Charles (Steve Martin).
When audiences were first introduced to Mabel in Season 1, she’s someone who is trying to protect herself. Costume designer Dana Covarrubias says, “I put her in chunky- soled boots and big puffy coats and jackets that create this sense of a protective armor around her.”
As the season progresses and she begins to connect with Oliver and Charles, she softens up. Solving a murder and being implicated in a murder brings the podcasting trio closer together.

As the fourth live-action DC movie of this year, Blue Beetle initially didn’t have a lot going for it. The character is comparatively lesser known even among franchise fans; movie promotion was nonexistent due to the ongoing writer-artist strike; no big names were associated with the flick, and the movie remained separated from the existing Dceu. In fact, after seeing Blue Beetle, one might argue that a lot of 90s action movie tropes have been used in the making as well.
Therefore, it is understandable that viewers were pleasantly surprised after seeing how Angel Manuel Soto’s third feature film has managed to surpass expectations by not only handling the superhero movie basics like drama, action, VFX work, humor, fight choreography, and value of legacy a lot better than most of the recent big-budget entries but also portraying even a compelling representation of Latinidad through an earnest, honest worldview.

There was a time for superhero origin stories. A moment where every studio wanted to bombard us with hero after hero before merging them all into one giant word-saving blob. A time where we genuinely were intrigued to see power began where: a spider-bite, a radiation disaster, or a trust fund – usually.
That time was almost twenty years ago.
Now that time is over. The story seems to have exhausted all of its configurations. We know the patterns, we know the rhymes, and we are most certainly fatigued.
It’s a shame because a film that is as buzzy as Blue Beetle deserved its heyday, but sadly now it feels too dated.

We have seen many, many superhero origin stories in recent years, to the point where they've started to blur a lot and stagnate the genre.
So it has become even more important to distinguish these movies with small differences, in tone, in scale, in the types of characters we see. It's why the more child-like humor in "Shazam" made it so fun and fresh, why the Disney Channel tone and focus on history in "Ms. Marvel" made it so special, and why the focus on family, as well as the cultural specificity of "Blue Beetle" are what make it stand out from all other superhero movies.
Indeed, this is a movie that, despite taking place in an entirely fictional city, has incredible specificity when it comes to the characters' Mexican background. From the way they speak Spanglish and Spanish, the slang they use, and the shows they reference, the movie immerses audiences in Mexican culture,...

There is a scene relatively early in the new "Blue Beetle" movie where its lead character, Jaime Reyes (played by Xolo Maridueña), is seen with his sister, Milagros (played by Belissa Escobedo), sitting on the rooftop of their family's house. The two are reflecting on all the trials and tribulations they and their family have been through, some of which the audience is privy to. The conversation eventually leads to them fretting about the encroachment of the movie's fictional Kord Industries and how it's been nefariously buying up land across their fictional home of Palmera City, leaving lower-middle-class families like theirs with fewer opportunities to grow. Frustrated, Milagros says to Jaime, "We live on the other side of the tracks, and now they want to take that too." For "Blue Beetle" director Ángel Manuel Soto, who is Puerto Rican, this is a line that he knew would resonate sharply with...

One of the biggest challenges superhero movies have is giving their protagonist a fully formed and intimidating villain to square off with. For every Thanos and Loki, there are a lot more subpar bad guys like Malekith the Accursed in "Thor: The Dark World" and Taskmaster in "Black Widow." DC Comics movies have had a somewhat better track record when it comes to crafting memorable villains, ranging from various versions of Joker to Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman and even Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow. But when it comes to "Blue Beetle," the film's antagonist doesn't quite stick the landing, even though there's an admirable effort to deliver something consequential.

Ahead of the launch of Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle in a few weeks, developer Invader Studios has released the game’s launch trailer. The trailer presents the nightmare you’ll be facing in this follow-up to 2019’s Daymare: 1998, and includes the vocal talents of Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia.
Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle cast players as special agent Dalila Reyes, a former government spy now in the service of the H.A.D.E.S. (Hexacore Advanced Division for Extraction and Search) unit. Reyes’ mission seems simple: enter the most advanced experimental research centre in the United States of America. As expected, Reyes will be up against formidable enemies, some of whom won’t quite stay dead, coming back in a completely new form and even deadlier than before.
With its retro-inspired mechanics and modern twists, Invader Studios aims to have the game deliver “an adrenaline-pumping journey through a world of terror, intrigue, and suspense.
