ShinichirÅ. Watanabe, director of the original Cowboy Bebop, has criticised the recent Netflix version.
The anime series was given a live-action reboot on the streaming service in 2021, and was cancelled after just one season.
Watanabe has now shared his judgement on the end product, which was developed by Thor: Ragnarok co-writer Christopher Yost – and revealed that he couldn’t make it past one scene.
“For the new Netflix live-action adaptation, they sent me a video to review and check,” Watanabe said.
“It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there and so only saw that opening scene.”
He added: “It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop and I realised at that point that if I wasn’t involved, it would not be Cowboy Bebop.
“I felt that maybe I should have done this. Although the value of the original anime is somehow far higher now.

Netflix’s 2021 live-action “Cowboy Bebop” remake was canceled after one season and 10 episodes, a big failure for what was supposed to launch a blockbuster new series for the streaming platform. In a new interview with Forbes, Shinichirō Watanabe, who served as the original director of the Japanese anime series, said he stopped watching the live-action Netflix remake after just one scene because it didn’t feel like the anime classic he helped create.

A new superhero movie that recently premiered on Paramount+ aimed to provide audiences with a hiatus from the duopoly of the MCU and the Dceu. Titled Secret Headquarters, the film was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Joost and Schulman previously worked on Catfish, Paranormal Activities 3 and 4, and Nerve. The movie was co-written with prominent Hollywood screenwriter Christopher Yost, who knows his way around superhero films with movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: The Dark World, and The Mandalorian under his belt. The movie received a lukewarm response from critics during its release. A positive one from Jude Dry of IndieWire wrote: “With a PG-rated

Secret Headquarters is a rare Superhero flick that isn’t based on a previous IP. It comes from an idea by writer Christopher Yost, who has penned MCU films and an episode of The Mandalorian. It is directed by the team Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
Obviously, the adult stars of the movie are more recognizable, but Wilson’s character’s son and his friends will also reportedly have major parts in the movie. The children in this film are played by Walker Scobell, Keith L. Williams, Momona Tamada, Kezii Curtis and Abby James Witherspoon.

The archetypal portrayal of heroic fathers is one of good, upstanding men teaching the sons who look up to them fundamental life lessons. But writer-directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (“Catfish”) expand on this conceit in “Secret Headquarters,” their family-friendly feature for the Paramount+ streaming service. Centered on a teen who discovers his aloof, neglectful father is the world’s most formidable superhero, this action-adventure delivers a modicum of skill and smarts, though it ultimately winds up as forgettable as its generic title.

In The Adam Project, a disposable Netflix feature probably watched by a squillion people earlier this year despite a plot so contorted it was basically a sleep aid, young actor Walker Scobell played a kid bruised by the inattention of a workaholic dad who then died, compounding the hurt. The boy’s perception shifted after a time-space wormhole brought him face to face with his grownup self, also shedding light on his father’s integrity. Scobell again plays a disgruntled son given a sci-fi shakeup in another empty-calorie adventure, Secret Headquarters, though it’s perhaps a small mercy this time that instead of Ryan Reynolds cracking wise we get the mellower Owen Wilson alternative.
Developed from a story by co-screenwriter and frequent Marvel hired hand Christopher Yost, the film was originally slated as a Paramount theatrical release before being bumped to Paramount+ on the same date.

I’ll start off this review by stating that I’ve not seen the anime (yet). This for me is what will make this review interesting as I’m going into it without expectations. What I found was an interesting fusion of styles that left me wanting more, and made me want to watch the Cowboy Bebop anime even more.
Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) are a rag tag band of bounty hunters, known as cowboys travelling on the Cowboy Bebop searching out the galaxy’s worst criminals. Along the way they catch the interest of the Syndicate and Vicious (Alex Hassell) a man who believed Spiegel was dead.
When a show or movie tries to be stylish sometimes that style can overtake the content that it is meant to compliment.

“Cowboy Bebop” star John Cho sustained a knee injury on the set of the live-action Netflix series while filming in New Zealand in October, Variety has learned, leading to a 7-9 month break in production.
While the nature of the incident that led to the injury is not altogether clear, it occurred during a rehearsed sequence that was not considered to be a large-scale stunt. Cho is back in Los Angeles, where he will undergo surgery, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” is a 10-episode adaptation of the original 26-episode anime series from Sunrise studio, about a group of misfit bounty hunters in space, led by Spike Spiegel. Cho plays Spiegel, described as an “impossibly cool bounty hunter with a deadly smile, a wry wit, and style to spare,” who traverses the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, who will be portrayed by Mustafa Shakir.

Christopher Eccleston hasn’t had a lot of nice things to say in the past about his experience working on 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. In an interview last year with The Guardian, for instance, the Malekith actor went as far as to joke that filming the God of Thunder’s second solo outing made him want to put a gun in his mouth. But during a recent panel at New York Comic Con, the star suggested that he still isn’t completely closed off to the idea of returning to the Marvel franchise.
Naturally, Eccleston still managed to get in a few more jabs at his sole outing in the McU, characterizing his experience on set as tedious and uncomfortable:
“I was in make-up for six, seven hours every day – they didn’t tell me that up front, so I wasn’t pleased about that. There was a lack of humor in the film,...

Omega Underground’s reporting that they’ve heard Silver & Black is no longer expected to start production in late 2018. The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Silver & Black has been yanked off Sony’s calendar, and will no longer make its initial February 8th, 2019 release date.
It’s a disappointing, if unsurprising update from the studio’s fledgling Marvel Universe, which is due to flicker into life this October thanks to Ruben Fleischer’s Venom.
For Silver & Black, we know The Secret Life of Bees filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood is at the helm for this one, having helped penned the script alongside Lindsey Beer. Though the fact that no casting announcements had been made led many to conclude that the female-fronted spinoff would be delayed sooner rather than later. It was really a question of when, rather than if…
All of this can be traced back to the film’s script, which is seemingly in need of some polish before production can begin in earnest. At least, that’s the word from Gina Prince-Bythewood herself,...

Aside from Ruben Fleischer’s Venom movie and Morbius, the Living Vampire, there’s another Spider-Man spinoff gestating over at Sony Pictures.
Its name? Silver & Black, the female-fronted offshoot that has already tapped Gina Prince-Bythewood to write and direct. It’s still early days, mind you, but with Kevin Feige and Co. working towards the long-awaited Captain Marvel movie, and Warner Bros. gearing up for its second Wonder Woman, there’s a real sense that Silver & Black is riding the crest of a wave, as audiences flock to see their favorite female superheroes projected onto the big screen.
And soon, we’ll be able to add Silver Sablinova (Silver Sable) and Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) to the growing collection. That being said, the Powers That Be have since delayed the film’s production start due to issues with the script, and that’s exactly what Prince-Bythewood told Screen...

Thor: Ragnarok is funny, bright, colorful and imaginative. Clearly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cosmos is a brilliantly lit place and a lot of fun to visit. The 2:10 movie, out on disc now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment is a joy to rewatch because of director Taika Waititi’s imaginative approach to the now-familiar characters.
The blending of the prophesied Norse end times with the beloved Planet Hulk storyline is made to work but only by giving each story short shrift and robbing the former of its power. As much fun as it is to see Thor (Chirrs Hemsworth) shorn of hair, robbed of his enchanted hammer Mjolnir, and subjected to appearing in a remake of Gladiator, the film doesn’t pause long enough to make audiences feel anything for the end of the Norse way of life. Early on, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is revealed to have replaced Odin...

David Goyer looks set to bring He-Man back to the big screen...
The Masters of the Universe movie is still in development, and apparently much closer to production than we thought. The movie currently has a December 18th 2019 release date.
This one has had a revolving door of directors and writers. The most recent director to exit was McG, and his exit was followed by the entrance of David Goyer as writer.
But now it appears that Goyer is also directing, as per a report in The Wrap. Goyer is, at the very least, a good choice to write this. His incredible attention to the worldbuilding of Krypton in Man Of Steel makes me wonder what he could do with Eternia. The last feature he directed was 2009's The Unborn, and he previously helmed Blade: Trinity.

Standalone Thor films have never really received the love that most other Avengers’ solo films receive and with good reason as the films, up to now, have been either been boring (original Thor) or pretty to watch but ultimately forgettable (Thor: The Dark World). Thor: Ragnarok opened in North America on November 3rd and hoped to change that by taking a new approach by using comedy to liven up the forgettable film series.
This time, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must not only tangle with his mischievous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), but also Hela, the God of Death (Cate Blanchett) as she tries to continue what Odin (Anthony Hopkins) stopped her from doing centuries ago, rule the universe. Along the way,...

If there’s one black mark on Marvel’s resume to date, it’s that they’ve yet to really get the Thor franchise right. He’s worked as part of the group in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but in solo outings Thor and Thor: Ragnarok, he’s been the blandest character of the lot. Aside from Hulk, he’s essentially been the read headed stepchild of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, feature player wise. On Friday, the McU gets an unexpected jolt of comedy from the God of Thunder when Thor: Ragnarok opens. Not only is this the best of the Thor trilogy by far, it’s also one of Marvel’s better overall works. You’ll see a ranking later on in the piece, but if you’re a fan of the lighter McU works, this will be completely up your alley. The film is the...

Chicago – Any blacksmith will tell you that their job is much more than the brute action of slamming a hammer onto steel. There is some finessing and an attention to detail that needs to take place in order to make something truly notable. With Taika Waititi manning the hammer, he takes the “Thor” franchise out from the Dark Ages and into the technicolor light.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Taika Waititi is the perfect choice to revive and rebrand Thor from the slump of the last film. His style of visual storytelling, in films like “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”, fits perfectly in the Thor universe, especially with how heavily steeped in Norse mythology the franchise is. His comedic timing and acuity for visual gags, along with the vibrant color palette, stimulate the cinematic experience and elevate it from the grim grayness of the former films. MaryAnn’s quick take… Breezy, jokey, crammed with clever sci-fi ideas; the funniest McU flick yet. Director Taika Waititi brings a new geeky verve we didn’t realize the series needed. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast, love the McU

Thor can go to hell.
No, I mean, literally: Thor is capable of going to hell, just for a visit, which is where he is at the opening of Ragnarok. Okay, okay, I know, I know, it’s not really hell, not Hell. I know it’s Muspelheim, the extradimensional realm of fire, please don’t write in to complain. But it’s pretty hellish, and Thor is there to confront the fire demon Surtur, who is fairly satanic: extremely large and scary, aflame, and determined to slay the gods of Asgard and...

Need a quick fix for the bleak dystopian epics flooding the multiplex? Take a hit off the laughing gas rising up out of Thor: Ragnarok, which may be the most fun you'll ever have at a Marvel movie. The first Thor (2011) ran fast out of the gate, thanks to director Kenneth Branagh and Chris Hemsworth scoring as the Norse god with sibling issues (Tom Hiddleston as bad bro Loki stole the show). The 2013 follow-up, directed by Game of Thrones vet Alan Taylor, was a muddled mash-up. The third time really is the charm,...

It seems like fans are really pumped up for it because according to Variety, the film is tracking for a $100 million dollar opening weekend. If that happens, it will make it the highest grossing Thor movie opening for Marvel yet. The movie deserves all of the success that it gets!

Once upon a time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe did not rely simply upon post-credit scenes to add content to the fabric that holds its franchise instalments together. It also created short films – known as Marvel One-Shots – that were designed to provide an opportunity for the giant brand to experiment with other, lesser-known characters, while filling the gaps in storytelling that inevitably open up within the confines of such a vast narrative endeavour. These short films became highly anticipated gems, and were included with Blu-ray releases of theatrical movies. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a Marvel One-Shot since 2014, but that may be a situation that’s heading for change.

When it came time to build a third standalone “Thor” feature, Marvel brass had a few different elements that they felt were necessary for inclusion, all the better to bolster the superhero’s solo power after the relative disappointment of “Thor: The Dark World.” Mostly, there needed to be more humor, the kind that could capitalize on star Chris Hemsworth’s growing acclaim as a comedian, but not feel out of place in the McU as a whole. And perhaps the big guy needed a buddy, too, a fellow superhero also capable of teasing out both humor and pathos.
As Marvel president Kevin Feige explains, the franchise found an unlikely connection between those aims and a favorite piece of comic book lore. First up, though, “Thor: Ragnarok” needed to be its own thing, and get away from a predecessor that didn’t quite tap into what makes the Asgardian god...

Silver & Black will be Sony's second film in their own Spider-Man Universe, following Venom, which has a release date of October 5, 2018. Silver & Black will follow the classic Spider-Man allies Silver Sable and Black Cat in their own adventure. Lisa Joy (Westworld) and Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) have both worked on the screenplay, which will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Secret Life of Bees, Beyond the Lights). That's all we really know for sure about the film, save for the release date, which has just come to light.
Exhibitor Relations tweeted the release date of Silver & Black, set for February 8, 2019, almost exactly four months after Venom.

Gina Prince-Bythewood and Patty Jenkins have much in common. Both have critically acclaimed, independent movies on their resumes (Love & Basketball, The Secret Life Of Bees and Beyond The Lights in the case of Prince-Bythewood; Monster in the case of Jenkins), both have made their mark in directing television (Shots Fired and Cloak & Dagger; and The Killing, respectively), and both are now blazing an entirely new trail through the genre of comic book movies. So, it makes sense that these two accomplished filmmakers would connect, as Patty Jenkins enjoys the success of Wonder Woman, and Gina Prince-Bythewood prepares to film Silver & Black.
