Kho Gaye Hum Kahan could be loosely translated to ‘Where have we gotten ourselves lost’. The title of the movie is an ideal ode to a generation that seems to have lost a sense of purpose, as stated by one of the characters in the movie. Arjun Varain Singh’s Netflix film explore the lives of three best friends living in the bustling city of Mumbai who are going through a crisis of their own and resort to social media for some temporary relief. Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Films have released slice-of-life and coming-of-age dramas that leave a lasting impression on the audience. Lakshya, Rock On, Gully Boy, and Eternally Confused and Eager for Love are some examples of the kind of content these two production houses run by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti have put out. ‘Mast Mein Rahne Ka’ Ending Explained & Movie Summary: How Did Kamath And Mrs. Handa Become Friends?
Vijay Maurya’s 2023 comedy, Mast Mein Rahne Ka, is a classic example that proves life is unpredictable and one can find friends in all the wrong places. In this brilliant comedy, Jackie Shroff steals the show as Kamath, a man in his late sixties who lives alone and has given up on life. Grown weary of his life, Kamath, every once in a while, sits on the beach and ponders suicide. On the days he doesn’t, he drowns himself in strong beers. On the other end of the city is Nanhe (Abhishek Chauhan), an unfortunate tailor who lost his job after a female client accused him of sexual harassment. To add insult to injury, the woman also posted the video on the internet to rob him of any future employment. Last but not least, Neena Gupta steps into the shoes of Mrs. Handa, who has returned from Canada after her husband’s death.

Toofaan (Amazon Prime)
Starring Farhan Akhtar, Mrunal Thakur, Paresh Rawal
Directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra
This week, Amazon Prime has a lot to be proud of . Two outstanding feature films Malik in Malayalam and Toofaan in Hindi, although the language in both cases is the least vital component in its vibrant validity and renewable vitality.
Toofaan, I have to admit, starts off sluggishly . As the triumphant underdog’s saga of a goon from Dongri who becomes a national boxoffice champ, Toofaan takeson all the typical tropes of the sports genre: gruff coach, elitist decision-makers, supportive girlfriend and what–have-you.
But then suddenly Toofan changes tracks to become something much more than a sports drama, something far more relevant moving and vital. New Delhi, Jan 31 (Ians) American-Iranian director Ramin Bahrani was struck by the realism and humanism in the works of Satyajit Ray, and says he continues to reflect upon the Maestros cinematic craft and imbibe some of the hues on his canvas.
The director also appreciates the current wave of Independent cinema in India, and feels it reflects something that was missing from cinema in our country for a long time.
"I have a vivid memory. In college in the 1990s, (author) Aravind (Adiga), I and one of our friends, we would walk to the Lincoln Plaza Cinema. Because that summer, Martin Scorsese had restored and was releasing nine of Satyajit Ray's films. So, every two weeks we would walk all the way and see the film, and then we would walk all the way back talking about it," Bahrani told Ians, while opening up about the influence of Ray on his work.

"Don't believe for a second there's a million-rupee game show you can win to get out of it". That's Balram Halwai thinking aloud, outlining the squalid poverty that he lives every day, as opposed to what Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire might have said. The White Tiger sets its tone bluntly with that line, somewhere in the early portion of a two hour-odd runtime.
The idea is clear: There is no superstar-hosted miracle game show waiting to deliver you if you are Balram Halwai, 'dehati' driver devoted to a wealthy upper caste 'master'. But if you are Balram, and at the wrong end of the social stratum, getting at the wrong end of the law might just help. Only, in a country where 'Wanted' posters that cops issue rarely ever look like the culprit, you have to be smart enough to get away with it.

You know that young Balram Halwai’s (Adarsh Gourav) ascent from servant to entrepreneur within Ramin Bahrani’s The White Tiger won’t be quite what we’re used to thanks to two moments. One comes via a quip at Slumdog Millionaire‘s expense explaining how there are no game shows in India that could make someone from Balram’s sweet-maker caste rich. The other is when we discover the so-called “Great Socialist” (Swaroop Sampat)—the nation’s leader and a woman who herself rose from “country mouse” to powerful politician—isn’t afraid to fill her own pockets despite the image she projects. You don’t escape the sort of poverty that Balram was born into with idealism. You do it with pragmatism after realizing freedom within a democracy isn’t actually free. It must be taken.
So don’t expect to learn Balram’s kind master Ashok (Rajkummar Rao...

Sparkling lights reflect on the car. Murad is the driver – he drives that expensive car for his boss. It’s parked in front of a star hotel and the privileged guests are talking and walking around. The camera pans on the intense eyes of Murad- he wants to break free. He hums – Apna Time Aayega (My or our time will come). Most people who love movies have one that seems to speak directly to them, that might actually be a perfect, brilliant movie. That is the case, for me especially, with Sooni Taraporevala’s extraordinary Yeh Ballet. The Netflix original, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films, began streaming on Friday, February 21st.
I began ballet lessons at age five, went on to dance professionally and then teach to share my love of the dance form. Through so many years, ballet was, as said in the film, ‘100% my life.’ Consequently, any movie with the word ballet in it is going to get my attention. I was even more excited when I read the blurb from Netflix, “Discovered by an eccentric ballet master, two gifted but underprivileged Mumbai teens face bigotry and disapproval as they pursue their dancing dreams.”
I was sure I was going to love this movie. So,...

Review‘Yeh Ballet,’ now streaming on Netflix, is based on a true story of two men pursuing their ballet dreams, directed by Sooni Taraporevala.Saraswati DatarNetflix India Unlike Delhi, where power and pedigree are frequently asserted, Mumbai’s wealthy have their high-rise homes overlooking slums where some of the city’s poorest live. As the opening aerial shot of Yeh Ballet shows, prosperity and poverty are long standing neighbours in Mumbai. It’s a daily humbling reminder of the immense privilege of having an attached bathroom. Yeh Ballet, now streaming on Netflix, is based on the true story of Manish Chauhan and Amiruddin Shah, who were discovered by their Israeli ballet teacher Yehuda Maor. Both youngsters ended up being selected by ballet schools in America and are now pursuing their dreams in the dance form. The trailer of Nagesh Kukunoor’s highly anticipated film Dhanak has garnered tremendous buzz among audiences and film buffs. The film stars two young actors, Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria, essaying the roles of Pari and Chotu, who are complete show-stealers as they set out on a beautiful journey to meet their hero, Shah Rukh Khan.
However, as a lot of fans have noticed, Chotu is seen wearing a certain silver bracelet in Dhanak’s poster and trailer – a bracelet that is famously worn and considered a lucky charm by another Bollywood superstar! Needless to say, this has generated a lot of curiosity among audiences. So, is there a fun twist in this tale of innocence and hope?
Director Nagesh Kukunoor isn’t spilling the beans yet. “Let’s just say that every brother-sister bond, no matter how loving, has some point of rivalry – and Chotu and Pari have a very interesting one.
