Swiss documentary festival Visions du Réel has unveiled the projects to be presented at its 2024 industry programme VdR-Industry, taking place April 14-17, including features from Iran-born French filmmaker Mehran Tamadon and Chilean director Tana Gilbert.
A total of 29 projects have been selected. 15 projects in development will be part of VdR–Pitching, and six projects in finishing stages will be presented at the VdR–Work In Progress pitch. Four projects have been selected for both the VdR–Rough Cut Lab and the VdR–Development Lab respectively.

Butterfly Vision producer Darya Bassel and Call Me By Your Name executive producer Naima Abed are among 17 independent producers selected for Ace Animation Special, the animation business programme of European network Ace Producers.
The 17 producers will take part in the workshop from March 19-24 in Dingle, Ireland, in collaboration with the Animation Dingle festival.

Exclusive: Beijing-based world sales and multi-territory distribution outfit Tiger Pictures Entertainment has acquired international rights to Chinese comedy Godspeed, which is currently topping China’s May Day holiday box office.
Written and directed by Yi Xiaoxing (Bath Buddy), the film revolves around a young man who goes on a road trip with the parents of his fiancée. Chinese comedians Ma Li (Moon Man) and Qiao Shan head the cast.
The film was released in China on April 28 in time for the May Day holidays (April 29-May 3), one of the country’s four key box office periods, along with Chinese New Year, summer and the National Day holidays in October. At the time of writing, the film was topping the China box office, according to online ticketing platform Maoyan, and had a cumulative gross of $55M (RMB380M).

Some 22 projects are receiving support from the Swedish fund.
The new Göteborg Film Fund has confirmed its second round of funding, including its first development grants.
The supported projects include the Iranian-Kurdish thriller Zalava, the feature debut of Arsalan Amiri, which is competing in Venice Critics’ Week; and Ukrainian drama Pamfir, by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk. The latter is now in post and selected for the Venice Gap Financing Market and is about a decent man who gives up his honest job to help his family.
In addition, Oleg Sentsov, who is premiering Rhino in Venice, is receiving development supportt for his fiction film Kai.
