Back in March, Pixar Animation invited /Film to check out 35 minutes of their upcoming animated sequel "Inside Out 2." Along with the screening of the film's promising, clever, and hilarious first act, a series of presentations from the many filmmakers working on the movie took us behind the scenes to learn all about how the next chapter of Riley's life came together.
In "Inside Out 2," the core emotions find themselves overwhelmed when the now 13-year-old Riley enters puberty and begins experiencing some new emotions. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear, and Disgust are confronted with some drastic changes in how Riley approaches life when Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) show up and start messing with the console inside their girl's min.

At the end of March, I had the thrilling opportunity to travel to San Francisco, California, to visit Pixar Animation Studios for a Press Day preview of the upcoming animated sequel, Inside Out 2. Kelsey Mann directs Inside Out 2 for his feature directorial debut after helming episodes of the Megas Xlr TV series, an episode of the Green Screen Show, and the Pixar short Party Central, featuring characters from Pete Docter’s Monsters Inc.
Riley (Kensington Tallman), the central character of 2015’s Inside Out, returns for the sequel. She’s entering her “terrible teens,” and the emotions inside her head – Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), Disgust (Liza Lapira) – are frantically trying to course-correct as new emotions – Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) – arrive in Riley’s Mind Space.

Pixar brought "Inside Out" to theaters in 2015, and even though the story was squarely focused on an 11-year old girl named Riley and all the emotions she felt when moving across the United States, away from her childhood home, audiences easily identified with all the emotional trials and tribulations that come with growing up. Director Pete Docter and the animation studio effectively made tears come out of our face by imagining the feelings that our own feelings have inside our mind, and the movie easily ranks as one of Pixar's best.
Now, nearly a decade later, director Kelsey Mann is tapping back into Riley's mind as she embarks on the even more complicated hurdle of becoming a teenager, complete with a new range of complex emotions that throw headquarters and the core emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira), and Fear (Tony Hale) into a tizzy.

Pixar director Kelsey Mann introduced the first 35 minutes of “Inside Out 2” at a recent studio sneak peek event, comparing how happy he looked at his 5th birthday party versus how uncomfortable he was at his 13th celebration. His teen angst was the driving force in making the sequel to Pete Docter’s Oscar-winning original.
“I hated everyone looking at me,” Mann said, “and I think it’s about the new emotions that come up at this age. You’re suddenly self-aware, and you’re extremely self-conscious. You start to look at yourself and see nothing but flaws. I was thinking, ‘Am I really worth all this celebrating?’ That’s what we want to do with this film. And that’s why we think it’s worth telling, and that’s why we think it’s important, especially now. We want teens to look at themselves in the mirror and love what they see,...

The sequel to the Oscar-winning 2015 film, Inside Out 2 is coming to theaters on June 14, 2024, and we have already seen numerous trailers from the upcoming movie, as well as a rough outline of the plot of the upcoming movie. The upcoming sequel will see Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan reprising their roles from the first movie, with Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman joining the cast. Kelsey Mann is taking over as director from Pete Docter, directing from a script by Meg LeFauve, who was one of the co-writers of the first movie.
Now, we are reporting about this because the recently held CinemaCon revealed some new footage from the film. And while the exclusive footage is not available online, we have a description of what was shown and we’re excited to reveal some interesting surprises.

Some of the biggest laughs of CinemaCon came from Disney and Pixar’s well-received debut of the first 35 minutes of “Inside Out 2,” the sequel to its beloved Oscar-winning original film about a young girl named Riley and the emotions in her head. The sequel opens June 14.
Amy Poehler, who returns as the emotion Joy, was on hand in Las Vegas Thursday to introduce the “new story that captures the beauty and hilarity of the emotions we experience on a daily basis.”
It begins with Riley – now entering her teens – back playing ice hockey while reintroducing the emotions from the first film: Joy, Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Anger (Lewis Black) along with Fear and Disgust. Riley has grown to be kind, and with her friends is among the players invited to hockey camp.

Disney is closing out CinemaCon 2024 with extended looks at upcoming films, including Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, Inside Out 2. Coincidentally, I visited Pixar Studios at the end of March for an in-depth look at the emotionally driven sequel, which finds audiences getting reacquainted with Riley, the same young woman who let us walk around inside her head in the Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen original in 2015.
During Disney’s CinemaCon panel, the Mouse House screened 35 emotional minutes of Inside Out 2 for the crowd. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, was in the crowd, detailing elements of the preview for us to share.

In keeping with CinemaCon tradition, Disney this afternoon treated attendees to the first 35 minutes of its latest Pixar movie; this year being Inside Out 2.
The sequel to the 2015 pic brings viewers back into the mind of the now-teenage Riley (Kensington Tallman) as her emotions try to keep up with her new feelings. And while Pixar has gotten the short end of the stick during the pandemic with its movies Soul, Luca and Turning Red being sent to Disney+ and Lightyear shunned by Toy Story purists, Inside Out 2 had the Colosseum in stitches.
It was punctuated by the humor of Amy Poehler and Lewis Black, along with Maya Hawke’s scene-stealing turn as the antagonist Anxiety, who takes over the soul of young teen Riley from the feelings of Joy, Anger, Sadness and Fear. Let’s also not forget about Envy (Ayo Edebiri), who is in cahoots with Anxiety for the spirit of Riley.

New emotions are introduced and old emotions are suppressed in the official trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out 2. The trailer was accompanied by details on the new characters joining the fun inside Riley’s head for the sequel.
Maya Hawke as Anxiety: A bundle of frazzled energy, Anxiety enthusiastically ensures Riley’s prepared for every possible negative outcome. Ayo Edebiri as Envy: Envy may be small, but she sure knows what she wants. She’s perpetually jealous of everything everyone else has, and she’s not afraid to pine over it. Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui: Ennui couldn’t care less. Bored and lethargic with a well-practiced eye-roll, Ennui adds the perfect amount of teenage apathy to Riley’s personality when she feels like it. Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment: Embarrassment likes to lay low, which isn’t easy for this burly guy with a bright blush-pink complexion.

If you watched the initial teaser for Pixar's return to the mind of tween (now teen) Riley Anderson, Inside Out 2, you'll have met Anxiety (Maya Hawke), the first new emotion to show up as Riley plunges through the turbulent hormonal waters of puberty. With the full trailer, we get to meet her compatriots – Ayo Edebiri's Envy, Ennui, voiced by Adèle Exarchopoulos and the withdrawn embarrassment, featuring the tonsil talents of Paul Walter Hauser. See it:
The new footage continues the feel that director Kelsey Mann and her team have, despite recent stumbles on the sequel front from the Pixar gang, have crafted something worthy of following up one of the most popular of the company's line up. Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has dropped another teaser trailer with three new animated characters voiced by Paul Walter Hauser, Ayo Edebiri and Adèle Exarchopoulos sharing main character Riley’s (Kensington Tallman) now-teenage mind.
Joining Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger are Maya Hawke as Anxiety; Edebiri’s new and perpetually jealous animated character Envy; Exarchopoulos’ bored and eye-rolling Ennui emotion; and Hauser voicing his burly, yet red-faced, character of Embarrassment.
The sequel also features new voices for fear and disgust, with Tony Hale replacing Bill Hader and Liza Lapira replacing Mindy Kaling, respectively.
“You got a real sweaty palm there, buddy,” Riley, about to begin high school, tells a cowering Embarrassment after they shake hands. In retrospect, it only becomes harder and harder to believe that any of us made it out of our awkward teenage years (relatively) unscathed with our dignity (relatively) intact. Every new environment during this tumultuous time comes with a whole assortment of anxiety-inducing social interactions, new fears and pressures we didn't even know existed before, and the ever-present threat of embarrassing ourselves in ways that will randomly keep us up at night decades down the line. Honestly, just reliving all of my own memories while typing this out makes me want to run to the nearest therapist's office. Look at what I put myself through just for the sake of bringing the newest movie news to your devices, people!

Pixar has revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Inside Out sequel, Inside Out 2, which arrives in theaters on June 14th. Watch it below.
When we last left Inside Out protagonist Riley, she was dealing with the mixed emotions of a cross-country move. Now reaching her 13th birthday and thrust into the knotty feelings of middle school, however, the emotional headquarters in Riley’s brain are met with some new visitors: Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke), as well as her fellow newcomers Envy (Ayo Edibiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos).
All five of Inside Out’s original personified emotions — Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear — return this time around, but the presence of Riley’s newcomers, as well as the onslaught of new emotions that being a teenager demands, threaten to change their roles forever. Disney and Pixar should have nothing to worry about, as far as attendance for Inside Out 2, as the film’s trailer unveiled on Thursday has had the biggest launch of any in the former studio’s history, unseating 2019’s Frozen 2 with an astounding 157 million views in just 24 hours.
The film had a particularly strong showing on TikTok, where it brought in 78M views over the past day. It success there comes a little less than a month after Disney’s announcement of a first-of-its-kind content hub with TikTok in celebration of the studio’s 100th anniversary.
Grossing over $858M worldwide and winning the 2016 Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the original Inside Out introduced viewers to Riley, a young girl confronting emotions including Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Tony Hale), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) as she’s uprooted to San Francisco from the Midwest.

"Who made the console orange?" Things are getting messy. Disney + Pixar have revealed the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Inside Out 2, arriving in theaters in the summer of 2024. This is the follow-up to the beloved 2015 Pixar movie Inside Out, which introduced us to Riley and her 5 emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. For this sequel, as she's getting older, a few more emotions appear - namely Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. "Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she's not really the type to take a back seat," said Mann. "That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds." The voice cast also includes Amy Poehler returning as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger,...

Pixar is ready to play some mind games again.
On Thursday, Disney released the first teaser for the forthcoming animated sequel, which introduces a new emotion to the mix of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust: Anxiety, voiced by “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke.
For those who don’t recall the 2015 hit – an Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature and, for many Pixar fans, one of the best films the studio has ever done – “Inside Out” is about the emotions inside the head of a young girl named Riley, who moves from Minnesota to San Francisco after her parents relocate. The high-concept feature, which also received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, mainly focused on how the emotions of Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) and Sadness (voiced by Phyllis Smith) learned to coexist together as a young child came of age. How fitting is it that on the morning after the official end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, one of the first new trailers we get is from a movie about unleashing all sorts of heightened emotions? This moment of perfectly-timed collective catharsis comes courtesy of Pixar, as the animation studio has released our initial look at one of their most highly-anticipated sequels ever: "Inside Out 2." The 2015 original left nary a dry eye in the room after introducing the world to young Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and the torrent of preadolescent feelings swirling around her head. And just when we thought we could start to recover from what happened to the lovable Bing Bong (Richard Kind), they've gone ahead with a sequel that's sure to be another emotional roller coaster.
The twist this time around, of course, will be the introduction of a whole new set of emotions to coincide with Riley...

Maya Hawke is bringing out the awkward tween emotion that Gen Zers know all too well: anxiety.
Hawke stars in “Inside Out 2,” the sequel to the 2015 Oscar-winning Pixar film. The Disney movie won Best Animated Feature and was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay, one of only four Pixar films to be nominated in that category.
While Academy Award winner Pete Docter does not return to write or direct “Inside Out 2,” the original cast is back in full force, with Amy Poehler playing Joy, Phyllis Smith voicing Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale playing Fear, and Liza Lapira starring as Disgust, all voices inside growing tween Riley’s head.
Now, Hawke’s Anxiety takes a wrecking ball to the inside of Riley’s mind as emotions bicker, battle, and tumble toward the confusing state of puberty. Kelsey Mann directs the film, which is produced by Mark Nielsen.

“Inside Out 2” is the sequel to 2015’s animated coming-of-age film “Inside Out.” The first film centered on 11-year-old Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and the five emotions in her brain, led by a star-studded cast: Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader) and Anger (Lewis Black). The recent passing of Terence Davies and the tributes that followed — tales of a steel will, impassioned budgetary battles and a host of dream projects that never materialized — give this highly personal tribute to Scottish filmmaker Bill Douglas an extra and very poignant relevance as a similar story, now depressingly familiar to the British film industry, of an uncompromising talent who left us with a tantalizing promise of what might have been. Now largely unknown to the wider world but very dear to the heart of Scotland (despite the fact that he left his homeland at the earliest opportunity), Douglas is the closest thing to a Rosetta Stone in recent British independent and social-realist cinema. From his early home movies through to his last three-hour masterwork Comrades (1986), the director left an indelible imprint that still seems shockingly modern today, leaving traces in everything from Derek Jarman’s early Super-8 works...

Most artists, if they’re lucky, invent one thing. But Kenneth Anger, who was a filmmaker, an author, a debauched aristocratic scenester and, to the day of his death at 96, a figure of puckish mystery, invented several things, each one of them epic.
In “Fireworks,” his transcendent 14-minute avant-garde film of 1947, Anger invented the very consciousness and imagery of gay liberation — not the desire to be liberated (which was buried in the hearts of gay people everywhere), but the rapturous visual reverie of what that liberation might look like, what it would feel like, why it seemed so forbidden, and why it needed to be. In “Scorpio Rising,” his homoerotic demon-biker/Top-40-orgy blast from the underground, Anger invented MTV, invented what Martin Scorsese did in “Mean Streets” and David Lynch did in “Blue Velvet,” invented a way to express how music and reality talk to each other.

Experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger, who also wrote the novel Hollywood Babylon (which was banned in the U.S. when it was first released in 1965) and was considered to be a pioneer of underground cinema, has passed away at the age of 96. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his death was announced by Sprüeth Magers art gallery, which has presented exhibitions of his work.
Anger made more than thirty dialogue-free short films over a career that spanned from 1941 to 2013, but The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the work he did in those 72 years would take a viewer just 8 hours to watch in its entirety. His shorts have been described as “a kaleidoscope of symbolism, homoeroticism and the occult”. Some of his most popular shorts include the 1963 collage Scorpio Rising, described as “a pastiche of pop songs plastered over homoerotic biker imagery, pulp cartoons, Nazism, and paraphernalia”; the 13-minute 1953 short Eaux d’Artifice, which...

According to a report in Variety, pioneering experimental queer filmmaker Kenneth Anger, the director of seminal shorts like "Fireworks," "Rabbit's Moon," "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome," and "Scorpio Rising," has died at the age of 96.
The news was announced on Anger's website by Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers, the managers of Anger's art galleries. He had passed away on May 11, 2023, and the news was only just announced today.
Anger was a firebrand, an artistic rebel who aggressively and provocatively eschewed convention to present the world a new, cohesive type of underground, ultra-queer aesthetic that informs media and culture to this day. His shorts "Fireworks" and "Scorpio Rising" in particular blended traditionally ultra-masculine imagery -- Naval officers, leather-clad bikers -- with unapologetic gay lust, revealing the desire that exists so naturally in those worlds.
