Karen Kay Hassall
- Additional Crew
Karen Kay was the Caterer for the movie Autobiography of a Flea produced and released in 1976 by Mooks, aka The Mitchell Brothers. Karen Kay was hired to create and build a new show at the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre in San Francisco called the Ultra Room. a multi booth voyeur stage show with one way windows/mirrors for female dancers to perform explicit sex shows.
Karen Kay and Artie then created the Kopenhagen Lounge at the O'Farrell Theatre on Polk and O'Farrell. Kopenhagen Lounge was an up close and personal show for women to gyrate on a round ottoman while men inspected the female parts with long, red coned flash lights. It was a huge hit because as Artie stated, "this show is a lesson in female anatomy for men that have likely never even seen a woman's parts up close and personal."
A few years later movie Producer Artie Mitchell and Karen Kay were married. Karen Kay and Artie had 6 children between them, Artie had three children from a previous marriage who were 2,3 and 5 when he met Karen Kay, they then had 3 children together. The family of 7 moved to a bucolic farm in Canyon, CA over the hill from their previous home in Oakland where they spent much time with Huey Newton and his wife Gwen. Karen Kay and Artie delivered their third child at home on The Farm in Canyon. Their days were spent running 11 movie theatres, one with stage shows, a Fishing Company on Fisherman's Wharf and raising children while farming fruits, vegetables, weed, pet goats and various exotic birds and chickens.
